CloudX Headset for Xbox for $99 - Any Other Options? Or Go Wireless?

I have been using the HyperX Cloud Alpha on Xbox for quite a while now. Since they are 60 ohms (and I like the volume quite loud), I have been using them with a Turtle Beach DSS2 amp and Ear Force Audio Controller Adapter, along with a birds nest of cables to route everything. It has served me well but looking to now simplify and get rid of the cables.

Eventually I'll probably go wireless but to keep costs down for now, I might just get a simple wired headset. I tried the HyperX Cloud Stinger and whilst the sound was ok, the comfort was a bit fatiguing. I'm now looking at the CloudX for $99 (on sale) as it's 41 ohms so the controller should have enough volume to drive them (I'll still use the controller adapter for louder mic monitoring, easy game/chat mixing and mute).

Are there any lower impedance headsets that are better than the CloudX around the $99 mark?

Or should I just bite the bullet and get a wireless headset? I was looking at the SteelSeries 9X for ~$330.

  • Arctis 7 is the general headphone of choice right now for consoles. If you can/want to spring for the 9 then even better. No point buying cheap ones, false economy.

    • Thanks. The 7 doesn't work with Xbox does it? I was looking at the Arctis 7X (is it in Aust yet?) but I think I'd want Bluetooth as well if I was going to get a wireless headset.

Have you considered the recently released Xbox Wireless Headset? And no, the 7X isn't in Australia and is almost impossible to buy through the Steelseries website unless you use a ship forwarder from their US site.

    • Thanks, good call. A bit of research show that they aren't the best sounding but I think I'll consider it. The ease of integration would be nice and I saw there was a recent update to increase mic monitoring level (which I need). Do you know if you can game and listen/talk on mobile via Bluetooth at the same time? Using them on Windows for work as well would be good.

      • Yes, I believe it operates the same as the 9X in terms of bluetooth/xbox functionality.

      • Cant speak from reviews by audiophiles but my mate just got the xbox headset with his series s and he said its the best headset he's used for gaming at the price point. I have the Astro A20's and they are unreal but they are a fair bit more expensive and I daresay probably not worth the extra over the Xbox ones.

  • The Xbox headset for $140 is a steal I reckon. Especially after tweaking the sound settings a bit. The integration is top notch.

I wouldn't use it for music etc (get a proper set of headphones for that) but for xbox/pc the xbox headset is great.

Thanks all - ended up getting the Xbox Wireless Headset. I'm happy with them sound wise and they're pretty comfortable - the clamping force is quite strong but I'm sure it will soften up.
