New Head Unit (Budget $300) to Suit 2009 Lancer

Hey guys just bought my first car and I'm looking for a head unit to get for it. Since I just bought the car I don't have too much to spend on it so my budget is $300.

I need it to either have Android auto or something similar so i can use maps, Spotify etc. If anyone has any recommendations it would be great. I'm thinking of getting the Kenwood DMX1025BT if I can't find anything. I don't mind one off eBay or Amazon as long as it is a good head unit so if anyone knows a good one from there please let me know.

Thanks in advance

  • u cant get one with 300. u still need to do the cables and facia kit

    • I have bought the fascia kit and cables I have 300 left for just the head unit

      • 300 U props could wait for some sort of discount, i just got the sony ax 5000 for around 450 i think, the 1000 has a smaller screen but deffs can be have for that price range. Otherwise some random ebay android head unit might work

        • the 1000 seems good but I cant find it for under 400 where did you get your 3000 from?

  • Make model car?

    • 2009 lancer es cj

        With body kit?

        • +1

I already got the kit just need a head unit

          • @Vman384: Umm ok

          • @Vman384: You put a bodykit on a 2009 Lancer?

            • +1

@[Deactivated]: sorry guys because we were talking about the head units I thought you guys meant a fascia kit, nah not a body kit yet just changed the rims and put a spoiler on, going to change the hood and put a lip on in the future when I have more money

@Vman384: Why would you put a spoiler and rims on a 2009 Lancer? Stop wasting money and start saving for a better car.

@[Deactivated]: I mean the spoiler and rims combined were only 150 and I do intend on keeping the car well into uni so I feel like it was worth it

@Vman384: Enjoy what you have, do what makes you happy.

Remember the Sony XAV-AX1000 only does Apple Carplay, not Android Auto. I had to search for deals daily when trying to find a reasonably priced XAV-AX5000 which I got from Supercheap for $450.

                  • @Vman384: Isn't $150 half the value of the car?

      • not the evo 10 that looks similar? Disappointed…

  • Axis AX1870CP has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for a decent price. Got one on sale for $299 and it works great:

    • Damn hopefully itll drop down to 300

Save another $50 and get the Sony AX1000
Definitely recommend one with Android auto over the Kenwood.

    • I've got a XAV-AX200, excellent unit. Recommend over the Kenwood too.

the kenwood model you mentioned has andriod mirroring not andriod auto. i got the pioneer 5350bt when it first came out couple years ago and its very good. andriod auto with a very responsive capacitive touch screen, spotify and google maps. the 6350bt has wireless andriod but thats getting well outside your price range. you've gone to the trouble to upgrade the stereo system, just wait and save a bit more and get the HU you want, why rush

    • The only reason im in a bit of a rush is because my current head unit doesn't even have Bluetooth or a USB. Thanks for the idea I might try and see if I can find one off facebook marketplace

Have you by any chance had a look in the glove box? I only say this because I have a lancer sj es too and it took me about 7 years to find the usb port in the most random place.

        • yes i had a look in the glove box and no luck

      • So what, you can't survive listening to the radio for a few weeks. From personal experience, you'll be happier if you wait and get the one you want

    • I bought the same head unit, it's fantastic!

Don't get anything with resistive screen like Sony 1000, it's terrible to use compared to capacitative.

  • Atoto F7 Pro, reasonable boot up time and it has Apple carplay / Android Auto. I bought mine at amazon au

    • Is the screen nice and responsive? also what would you say the pros and cons of it are?

  • If you can squeeze a little extra cash look at getting one of these

I'm about the get this one for my Hyundai Here

Once I looked into these I realized the typical 2 din stereo units you find in supercheap or the like are outdated, lackluster and over priced.

Those Joyings have 4G and you can share your plan with another sim, basically the unit is an android tablet, it can do everything a tablet would, of course it will still relay bluetooth calls from your cell, but the unit itself can do everything else by itself. However if you still want car play or auto if a friend is in the car, it can do that too.

You can multi program the steering wheel controls to open google voice and say "take me home" and it will open google maps and give you directions.

The unit will come with an ISO fitting you just need to get the right car-year-make to ISO adapter, but steering wheel controls 'may' require a splice or 2, but that's the same with any headunit

    • Look how massive the back of these units are

      • Others have shallow mounts if you'd prefer but you're probably going to have to fit or look for compatible brackets to mount it into a normal car, these are already din 1 or 2 compatible.

The orientation of the mainboard causes this, however it means the amp chip has a lot more surface area for passive thermal dissipation. Some other manufactures orientate their board across the underside of the screen, some of them have to have active cooling as its all packed together tightly which means eventually you could end up with a noisy fan that could fail. If there is room for passive cooling let it be. I want to install this and not worry about it, especially in 40Degree+ Perth summers.

Most of the 2 Din ones don't have heat sink on the cpu, just the amp chip is pressed against the rear side as a heatsink as the rest of it has enough space to breath. But I was even going to add a bigger heatsink.

This is inside one of an older model

  • Look on eBay… You can even get 10" screens…. fantastic.
Connect to your phone for internet, and music. They have GPS, the works.
Don't buy anything in Aust… too expensive.

I obtained an AppRadio from the US.. connects to iPhone.

    • Would you happen to know any good ones as it is bit of a hit or miss with those Ebay screens
