      absolutely. the transfer speed difference between the two is something like 12MB/s for the NAS (afaik) vs 40+MB/s (if you raid your drives on the HP)

        This is the v2, 12MB/s would be what you got with the first version, this one would be closer to around 40MB/s write

        Not available anymore (cheaply). Was probably a special that was not meant to get out in the wild and was quickly shut down. Still annoyed at myself for only picking up one. I was going to get a second one but they fixed it right before I ordered.

        Even if you paid 250 to 300 for a Microserver its a 4 Bay and its got a much better processor.
        I manage mine remotely with iteleport + vnc server.

          Just note that the HP Microserver may have 4 drive bays but does not support RAID 5 which is a pain if you want to use it for storage.

    This is not a good deal. You can get the newer Netgear RND2110 for $238 and it comes WITH A 1TB DRIVE!

      This is actually the same unit, so you can directly weigh up how much the 1TB drive is worth to you

    Bought one on Sunday and had it delivered in 2 days. I also upgraded the RAM in it from 256MB to 1GB using a DDR1 400Mhz sodimm I had at home.

      Currently it costs a fair bit to buy drives individually so your probs better of finding one with drives already

    Just be aware these puppies run a Sparc processor and unlike their bigger ReadyNAS brothers running Intel processors they cannot run a lot of the cool add ons at the ReadyNAS site - http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=56.

    I bought my ReadNAS Duo to replace my PC being powered up all the time but found I couldn't run services like Plex and Subsonic on this kind of unit. This is 100% my own fault for not reading up but still a tiny bit disappointed there. Over all the unit works well. It's been on 24/7 for about 6 months now and only requiring restarts when I've stuffed up something.

    P.S. Also don't insert a HDD loaded with heap of personal data on it into the stock settings unit. The X-RAID system will wipe any drive placed into it! * crying in a corner * (100% my fault again!)

      This is not the same unit, people need to check this carefully

      The version 2 of the readynas range was released around November last year. THIS IS A V2

      The above posts for the NV+ is the OLD version, the NEW version 2 is also out for that product range

      This runs a Marvell ARM processor. It sits between the Sparc and X86 intel range in terms of speed.

    I'd personally steer clear of the Duo. There's well documented issues with wireless connection to vista/win7 machines. I gave up on getting wireless to work with mine. That was the old one..new one might be better though.

    If you can stretch a bit further I'd recommend the newer Netgear RNDU2000 ReadyNAS Ultra 2 for $275 delivered which runs an intel processor and comes with 1gb ram, USB 3.0 and 2 gigabit interfaces. They claim it has 3x the performance of the Duo. I've had one a few months replacing a dedicated server and I'm happy with the performance.

    Also you usually get a $10 discount code pop up if have not used them before.
