Not a good deal, a GREAT deal, brewed by Singha Th.

ALDI also have Rivet Made In Vietnam for $24.99 a slab

    • Have you tried it? FYI - it's a lower alcohol volume 4.6%.

      • +1

        https://www.facebook.com/rivetlivet/
This page will provide more information.

      • It is different in a same/same way, but not after say 3 :-)

Beer is always subject to what you like yourself, this is a nik price, will be buying a few

    • +5

try drinking the whole case of Rivets in one go, you'll never experience a hangover like that ever in your life.
I think Rivets is also the makers of Hammer N Tongs

      • +1

Head brewer in Vietnam is a Aussie

      • +1

You forgot to mention the loose bowel motions the next few days

      • +1

Yup, didn't even have to do it in one go, sip it through 2 days, felt rotten in my gut for 2 days after.

  • +1

What is it similar to (or re bottled from)? Singha?

    • +10

Same water, brewer and plant, fairly close match, maybe a bit sweeter, just chill it and enjoy, not wine where we need analyse every single element

Sad sad day where Aussie beer is simply overpriced

      • +11

        Hops are expensive.

        Australian labour is expensive.

        This uses neither.

        • I so want to say greed on behalf of the producer, but this is the cause.

Mind you when I go on a brewery tour I hardly see anybody working, as they say it is all automated.

I think that most of the labour would be quality control, marketing, distribution, etc.

        • Brewed using Australian barley.

      • -3

I'd like to know what it tastes like before buying it incase it ends up going down the sink…

        • +12

          Tastes like traveling …

Leo, Singha, Bintang, Chang .. all sort of similar.

Basically an easy drinking beer for hot climates. If you are a basic pilsner, larger, corona/ Sol drinker you will like it.

Man I miss the walk to the corner 7/11 for a 50 baht big Leo. Unfortunately I am in SA :(

          • +1

@tunzafun001: Thanks, will grab a pack, sounds like good value summer drinking

          • +8

@tunzafun001: Just play this video while you drink & you will feel like you're back in Thailand.

          • +3

@tunzafun001: I just got back from Thailand , 17 days over Xmas/New Year . Forgot the not serving alcohol
between 2-5pm but otherwise happy days / nights :)

            • @deb3103: Where did you go, and what was the 'vibe' over there?

              • +2

@tunzafun001: I went to Hua Hin and Krabi and just a couple nights in Phuket to get home . Alot quieter of course but lots of
Europeans still travelling . Friend was in Phuket between Xmas and NY and said really busy . Places just aren't
staying open as late as usual. If going to party you would be disappointed but I wasnt so all good

        • +1

I'd like to know what it tastes like before buying it incase it ends up going down the sink…

I read a lot of reviews where they state the same sentence, yet I don't think I've ever come across an undrinkable beer.

Maybe I'm just too stubborn to waste any kind of money.

          • @magic8ballgag: If I didn't like it, I'd probably take it around to the inlaw's place and conveniently leave them in the fridge rather than tip it out but I've definitely had some that stay in the fridge long enough to go off and then get tipped out.

    • +2

Not similar in taste, brewed by the same company Boon Rawd Brewery. This price is a bargain, cheaper than inThailand price.Under 30 baht a bottle.

    • +2

Much better than Singha in my opinion. It's generally the local preference too. Not rebottled or anything, as above brewed by Singha corporation in Thailand.

  • +7

    Good lord….That's a great price.

This is a very nice beer IMHO, and it's not one of those "rapid brew" cheapies from the Netherlands (ie. Hollandia).

    $13.79 after 10c bottle return!

    • I'm surprised this is legal in australia, usually fun police would outlaw this?

      • -8

"Help, I'm being oppressed by imaginary police with an imaginary agenda"

        • +13

except he's right. beer in Australia is 42% tax and increases every year, and is the 4th highest tax on beer in the world.

          there's your fun police.

          • +4

@nismoau: It's worse where I live in the NT. This is actually an illegal price here, probably why I'm actually shocked by this deal.

          • -3

@nismoau: Wow, that's a nice made up number. Pity excise isn't a percentage, and it's certainly not 42% unless you're (mod: edited) enough to think the $ per litre excise rate from several years ago is a flat percentage rate, and your beer was pure ethanol. I guess you are, and so are the 9+ gullible idiots who upvoted you without checking first.

At $46 a litre, the excise on a 6 pack of 375ml bottles of 5% abv beer is about $5. Buy a lot of six packs that cost $11.90, do you? Because that's what they'd have to cost if excise was "42% tax".

And of course, the rate drops to just $28/L for most tap beers that come in 50L kegs.

Let's move on to that fourth highest in the world, shall we? Doesn't really tell the full story, does it - like the massive drop from third to us, or how countries where nobody is complaining about the price of beer (like Japan) pay way more excise than we do, or that there are other countries like the UK that pay comparable rates for a pint in a pub?

It's almost like the price of beer is driven by a wide range of considerations, rather than an imaginary conspiracy that's spanned multiple governments for decades on both sides of politics. But that'd require thinking, wouldn't it? Much easier to add it to the long list of ways insecure men are hard done by.

            • +2

@GrueHunter: You could have saved yourself a lot of effort by checking https://www.brewers.org.au/beer-the-facts/beer-and-taxes/

              • +1

@nismoau: Yes, why would I read the figures at the ATO and use a calculator when I can read what brewery lobbyists have to say?

                6 x 375ml bottles = 2,250ml of beer
                At 5% abv = (0.05* 2250) = 112.5ml of ethanol
Excise is $52.49/L of ethanol (my bad - $45.07 is the <3.5% figure)
                Total excise payable = 0.1125 * 52 = $5.85 (not $5)
                $5.85 is 42% of $13.92

Please, point me to the $14 six packs of Tooheys, because they're $20 everywhere I look.

But also happy to humour you with your link. See this table?

                Norway $3.62
                Japan $2.92
                Finland $2.46
                Australia – packaged $2.26
                Australia – draught $1.59
                United Kingdom $1.52
                Ireland $1.50

See the massive jump down from Japan to Australia? Do you think beer is expensive in Japan?

See the massive 7c difference between the rate for tap beer here and in the UK? Ever hear somebody come back from living in the UK and say "damn, the beer at our local was so expensive"?

See further down how amazing Germany is with excise at just 13c? Pity they also charge AU75c/L excise on diesel and we only charge 42.7c. I guess that must be the fun police as well?

Or maybe there are just things that are really easy for governments to charge excise on to bring in revenue to give you additional services that you'll gratefully accept and demand more of but aren't willing to pay for through tax revenue? If they don't collect the revenue through this, what other thing that you conveniently don't buy do you propose they get the revenue from instead?

                • @GrueHunter: Strawman from an unhelpful, unfriendly internet troll.

                • @GrueHunter: Italy $0.50
                  Spain $0.15
                  Germany $0.13

oh man no wonder people can buy alcohol at supermarket in Italy

            • @GrueHunter: You're basically saying that a 6 pack would have to cost some $13 dollars to be half tax … But this very deal would be $7.5 per six …. ? So that would be more than half tax … ?

  • +3

One of my favourite beers. Awesome deal

    • +1

      my, how tastes vary.

Worst beer I have ever tried.

      • +1

I agree, this is quite possibly the worst tasting beer I have come across, but I guess that’s why there are so many different beers to accomodate everyone’s tastebuds.

    • +3

Yeah it beats 90% of the imports available here and doesn't carry a ridiculous price tag.

  • Qld too?

    • +4

Aldi doesn’t sell alcohol in QLD, unless it’s started recently.

      • +4

        South Australia too, not allowed

In NSW you have to check out in a certain register/counter

Same beer in NSW Aldi costs a little more than Vic. they must have extra tax??

WEIRD red tape in fun police country

        • +2

NSW has a container deposit scheme (CDS).

      • Thoufht so but i couldnt see anything about qld in thelink. Sad :(

        • +3

Sometimes I used to drive to Tweed Heads if there was a good alcohol special (only 20-30mins for me), but obviously that habit changed with all the border issues. Might have to get back into going.

          • @morse: That's what I do, except I am 45 Klm South of Tweed ( No liquor sold in the Byron store ).

My preference is the St Etienne but this is my second choice in summer.

I save around $12-$18 a week buying that rather than my local, so that pays for my fuel

costs and free trip every 1-2 weeks.

  • Actually my favourite Thai beer. Unfortunately, Aldi doesn't sell alcohol in QLD.

  • +1

I really like this beer and buy it regularly at $18.99. Will have to stock up on Wednesday if they are not sold out

  • +5

    *cries in QLD

  • SA stays thirsty!

    • +2

      Stop moaning, you have Cooper's

      • -6

        Coopers. LOL. Swill.

  • +8

I also love how Aldi sells 12 pack beers. I don't go through much beer so a case will last a literal year. Meanwhile 6 packs are a ripoff by comparison. Aldi saving the day.

  • -3

Great deal if you like this sweet beer. It has a dash of sugar in it.

    • I was humbled by the negs, but only now I realised why I got negged.

      https://imgur.com/a/ghU2SMl

      Either because:
      * it's not sugar, it's low cost high-maltose corn syrup, or
      * it has more of it than hops, so it's probably sheer obvious that sweetener is more important in this type of lager.

  • +2

Great price, definitely stocking up (although stock will probably be hard to find)

  • What about ME.
It isn't fair, l live in Queensland.
    You don't care.

    • You are correct.

    • Confirmed.
      Not sorry about it either.

  • +1

These beers got me through Thailand, bloody refreshing. They would be perfect for such a climate right now as Queensland… Oh, damn these stupid liquor laws

  • -2

Chang>Leo>Singha. Don’t expect anything spectacular if you haven’t tried it before but at that price it’s a bargain. If you don’t like it offer them to visitors :P

  • Gah 2 days too late, bought it for the first time on Saturday and paid $19…

  • +1

Thais drink this with heaps of ice in a big glass and it's amazing when it's stinking hot.

  • The Facebook copy of the Aldi catalogue suggests this special starts on 9 February, but the top of this post suggests 2 February. Can someone clarify, please?

    • +1

This is part of the Super Savers which starts on the 2nd.

  • +1

Does anyone have the catalogue where this deal appears? I've got the new one for this week and there is nothing about this deal. The manager said the price won't change tomorrow either.

    • What state are you in? The link to the catalogue is in the description.

      • +1

I'm in NSW. The catalogue they had is different to the one in the description.

    • +1

Same experience, VIC. I wonder if the sale price starts 9/2/22.

      • On reflection, I think you may be correct for both NSW & Vic.

    • I'll wait until tomorrow to see if anyone has bought these for $14.99 in Vic before going to Aldi

      • Available today, seems Aldi sales start every Wed (VIC). Bought 1.

  • +2

I can confirm that they are $14.99 in NSW
(bought one from Leichhardt store this morning…had about 10 left)

  • +1

    in stock VIC - confirmed

  • +1

Yeah plenty at Lavington NSW. Glad I moved from SA.

    • Isn't power cheap there though?

  • +2

Thanks WatchNerd. Picked up 4 cases today. BB date is 06 Oct 22.

  • I hope this deal comes back again
