Thanks, bought 250 and sent them to Ukraine as lethal aid.

    • Oh no do they blow up?

      • +12

They used to. It's unlikely they do now, but I for one will probably still not buy them.

There was a whole thing with GamersNexus performing testing with some Gigabyte P750GM(?)/P850GMs and several dying or blowing up. Then Gigabyte denying or making false/moot points about GN's testing methodology and essentially denying their (GN's) claims (I think) if I recall correctly.

      • I've got 2, no issues whatsoever (I didn't know at the time they had a bad rep). Paid more than double this. History has these catching fire but I think those issues have all been resolved.

        • You paid more than $200 for 850w Gold PSU?

          • @Jazza2400: I thought I did… but no, I paid $179. Then again, PSU's were hard to come by with the mining boom.

What a weird thing to say. From your name, Are you human? You people make stuff that blow up on earth

  • Does anyone have an alternet sugestion or a better priced option? or just jokes?

This is not worth buying and putting in a system that needs 850w of power. The risk to components is too high for the "discount" you get.

    • Alternatives? Any 80+ gold PSU from a reputable brand, Seasonic, Coolermaster, EVGA, Corsair

Cheapest you'll get would be around $200, but a quality PSU is insurance against blowing up components

My recommendation if you don't want to spend more than necessary, but don't want to compromise on quality, go Corsair. Can get the RMx for around $200 and it's fully modular.

      https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/26rRsY/corsair-rmx-2021-…

Alternatively you could go for a less efficient PSU and look at 80+ bronze models

No. You will not find another name-brand 850W modular gold power supply this cheap.

As everyone is saying above, they are cheap because the previous revision of this model actually blew up, and instead of immediately apologising and recalling/replacing them, they accused the various victims (including very reputable reviewers) of not using them correctly.

So these are not selling well, hence the low price. For good reason.

You want a this price, you will have to risk it with a company who JUST PROVED they are not honest.

      I found this! https://www.mwave.com.au/product/cooler-master-v850-goldv2-8…
Cooler Master V850 Gold-V2 850W 80+ Gold Fully Modular Power Supply for $149

      • Nice find

      • +1

It was $118 last Thursday (the white version), and they raised to 149 after someone posted here.

    • Your best bet would be either

Cooler Master V850 Gold-V2 80+ Gold for $149 at Mwave or

EVGA 850 GQ 80+ Gold for $159 at Umart using $30 off with klarna.

After that your looking at Corsair or Seasonic those being closer to $200.

Gigabyte lost my trust a while ago. They're going to have to work pretty hard to get it back.

  • +1

I share the same sentiments a few here have posted especially after seeing that gamers nexus video as well - no excuse for gigabyte to cut corners and definitely have lost my trust as well. If they had proper quality control those would have never flooded the market.

I recently bought a PSU for $200 (RM850x) so paid double the price but reckon it's worth every cent.. Makes you wonder what cost-cutting gigabyte does to get it that cheap.

    • +1

Yeah the PSU is probably something I’m not going to cheap out on now after posting this deal

  • +1

    Bomb Has Been Planted………….

  • Got one for my test rig. I'll let you know how I go and if I need a gofundme page for my house fire.

    • That's OK. Just build a fire proof room for it.

  • +2

Gigabyte have addressed the serious safety issue. Since the fix no one has complained that the issue still exists. So this is a good price. It’s cheap to offset the bad PR received.

    • Agreed. This is the fixed version. Good deal.

  • +4

If you draw too much current with a PSU, normally it will just shut down. This one will explode instead.

Gigabyte have "fixed" the issue by lowering the automatic shut off trigger (OPP point) to a lesser voltage around 110% load, but given that units had been observed to explode at only 60% load (poor construction/parts), this is not something you'd want to use anywhere near your computer anyway.
