This is the 1080p model. The higher resolution 1440p model can be had for just a bit more https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688016

    • 1080 much easier to drive. 4.1mp vs 7.3mp - you getting somewhat closer to twice as many pixels…(4.1mp is 56% of the pixels of the 7.3)

Depending on the game a semi decent card will drive the 1080p monitor at a good refresh rate.

You wont be able to have a playable frame rate at full resolution on the 1440p screen with the same card.

If you have a good graphics card id recommend the better monitor my vega 64 matches my 3840x1080p screen very well… it would struggle on 5120x1440p

For office productivity, id recoment the higher resolution for the extra screen real estate - unless you have bad eyes.

      • Some good points there, but there's nothing stopping you from running games at 1080p on the 1440p monitor

        • except its an LCD/QLED monitor that has fixed pixels, and running them at anything other than native resolution is going to give you somewhat blurry results as the monitor estimates what colour each pixel should be rather than its actual colur.it may not be too bad at this resolution, but still not as good as native resolution.

if it where 4K, that would be fine running 1080P as you have 4 pixles per 1 of 1080P so no issues with bluryness.

it wont be perfect, but it may be OK I guess.

    1080p? That's itshay

1080p at this size, it's a crime to your eyes.

It’s actually not bad since you sit further back but then in 2022 I wouldn’t be buying it new even if it’s $1000.

    • It's a little chunky coming off a 1440p monitor, you don't really notice it if you've never used one though… fantastic for gaming too.

  • Plus $200 at HN? No contest at all then of what model to get.

You absolutely do not want to buy any ultrawide that is 1080p. 1440p at the bare minimum.

Depends what you're used to, and depends what you want to use it for, but 1080 will do for many people.

You'd need an insanely powerful rig to do ultrawide 1440p. I have a 6800xt etc. for this type of monitor and I get 144fps rarely on most games as it's quite demanding. Buyer beware, if you get a 1440p monitor of this type you better have a couple 3090s hidden somewhere :P

      • Yep that is the downfall to these massive monitors at a decent resolution. They are very hard to run at a good FPS. I was never able to but I was still fine with 90 fps, plus if you'd play BF5 you could be a massive cheater and use your edges to magnify long distances to snipe :)

I really don't see the use case for these, especially being 120hz. Even my 3080 can barely run current gen AAA with RT on at stable >60 fps. And if you're playing competitive shooters half of them don't even support ultrawide

    • but when they do, oh boy is it immersive… Ive played fortnite (dont judge me!) on a wide screen, you can never go back after playing on ultra wide… agree with the 120Hz though, i hardly get 60 frames running full res, ultra settings on everything… i think the biggest thing is as long as you get a smooth frame rate, your ok, as soon as it dips and jumps, thats when you start getting chunky performance.

  • For future buyers, and fans of ultrawide - download "Flawless Widescreen" app. It will allow a lot of games that don't support 32:9 to make use of the full res :) Game changer!
