          @auscompgeek: I've been paying for 1Password for 4 years now and thought I'd give Bitwarden a go and I actually prefer Bitwarden's UX.
          Might not be everyone's cup of tea but it works for me.

        Worth noting BitWarden uses Electron too but. Need to look at other alternatives if you want to avoid Electron.

        They're using a rust backend (https://dteare.medium.com/behind-the-scenes-of-1password-for…). Pretty performant from my experience.

          @murkywater: It runs pretty well but the complaints I’ve seen are that it uses significantly more memory than before and that for Mac there’s a lot of interface elements that no longer behave natively. Things like there being no rubber banding, lots of modal pop up panes (when editing collections as an example), drop down lists behaving different to standard Mac controls etc. The Safari extension also doesn’t follow colour conventions with them using a full colour icon (similar to other browsers) where the standard for Mac/Safari is monochrome icons for browser extensions, and what they had until version 7.

          For many people it’ll be a non issue, but if you check the 1Password forums there’s stacks of feedback for the Mac release about things that in isolation aren’t a biggie but do add up.

          From a company that as recently as last year were nominated for Apple design awards and where the design is a factor in why people pick it over BitWarden or others.

          I don’t mind version 8, but I can see why others don’t. Design aside, losing local vaults also impacted a number of people. I also suspect the disappointment from Mac users is somewhat balanced by the Windows users now getting a much better experience since 1Password for Windows was lagging.

    The first thing I do on new PC's is disable browsers from storing passwords. Anybody who uses your PC has access to those sites if logged in as yourself (which isn't hard). Any password manager is better than saving in ones browser.

      I have a master password on the browser, and on the odd occasion someone needs to use my computer i just full screen a fresh VM instance and let them go at it. I just find that none of the password manager work as well as the inbuilt pass storage.

        Try Keepass and it's built in CTLT+ALT+A auto type. Ok…there is a little learning but is a great free Password manager (local only).
