7-Eleven Closed My Account Because I Contacted Them.....Beware

Alright so here's my story that I thought I'd share here for the benefit of other OzBargainers.
If you're like me you probably use your chopper to lock in the best fuel price in Australia, all well and good. Now I was aware that it is technically a breach of the T's & C's but I figured that as long as the 7-Eleven store staff don't care or question me then I'm fine.
It was a Saturday night and I forgot to use my fuel lock, however, the attendant said it was all fine and that as I had the receipt I could contact 7-Eleven customer support to claim the difference and I did.

Hello,
This evening I went to my local 7 eleven to fuel up. I had my Fuel price locked and when I went to pay but I forgot to use my fuel lock, the Cashier said the best thing to do was to contact customer support (you guys) for compensation. The price I had locked at was 181.9 for diesel

I have attached a picture of my receipt for reference.

Regards

I sent that and 3 day's later I received this;

Hi HamBoi69,

Thank you for contacting 7-Eleven Customer Service.

We are writing to you about your My 7-Eleven account. To help keep our customers' accounts safe, and to ensure we meet our legal and regulatory obligations, we use a specialist third party provider to verify customer details.

Your account appears to have breached the App and Fuel Lock Terms and Conditions. As a consequence, 7-Eleven has made the decision to terminate your My 7-Eleven App account in accordance with our terms and conditions.

Should you have any questions concerning this please contact our Customer Service Team on 1800 247 711

Kind regards,
Customer Service
7-Eleven Stores Pty Ltd

So they deleted my account because I contacted them to ask for the price difference.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience and advice here for future reference of others. If your are breaching there terms and conditions by using a chopper to pay for fuel then I suggest never ever contact them.

At least I have 5 other accounts lol.

what is a "chopper" and how does it work?

  • 181.9… hope it was not e10

  • You didn't mention the chopper to them and they still banned you. Is there more to the story?

    • You didn't mention the chopper to them and they still banned you.

No, no I didn't. Did nothing of it.

Is there more to the story?

No thats the full story haven't responded to them or anything.

They probably looked at the transaction at XXX location and saw the locked in price was another state. It would be a pretty safe assuumption.

Just make a new account it's okay

    • Like I said I've got 5 others.

      • -1

Yeah people give out those codes and be selling them.

Good side hustle for the velocity points

      • +4

Probably that's why you got banned.

  • +2

I have contacted them several times, always got sent a gift card with the discount amount, no questions asked

  • +1

Lol was it a reasonable lock-in or something ridiculous

  • +2

I contacted then a few weeks back and they sent me a 7-11 gift card with the difference in fuel price.

    • +2

I remember when the app shifted from the old system to the new, where 7-Eleven would automatically send new gift cards of the remaining balance before conversion.

I received a gift card that literally had $0.00 on it.

  • So you actually forgot to scan your card to earn Velocity points

You likely got banned for having more than 1 account (when account details were verified by a third party).
This could be the same name, phone number, or email address extensions, or even home address. (Or possibly even the same I.p. Address or Mac Address being used for multiple accounts)

Probably more of consistent history of locking fuel in one state and using it on another state. Victorian probably the easiest to spot as 80% of the time fuel price being cheaper elsewhere.

I closed my account when they got hacked the first time and $10 was deducted from my bank without authorisation. They are always 2nd most expensive in my area so I’m not missing anything with their ‘profit lock’

So….you got caught breaking the rules, and got punished…

Fair is fair. What is the problem? Why can't everyone just do the right thing?

Waiting for the Negs while saying what most are thinking.

It's more a humble brag post for op since he proudly has another 5 accounts…

      • +3

No, it isn't and yes I was well aware that I was breaching the T's & C's as I stated. I'm just sharing my experience for the benefit of other.

    • couldve been worse @solidussnake

      • Haha that's gold

        • +2

So you CLAIM I have made 62 different Wow accounts. Wrong! I must argue. I've made about 130

          hahah

  • +3

The chopper ran out of diesel

Unless the savings was huge, I wouldn't bother contacting customer service if my account was dodgy, on the chance they might discover it while addressing my issue and ban my/all related accounts.

    • +1

Yeah, keep your head underwater and stay with the pack.

  • is this much harder to do on android

    • No. If anything it's easier than iOS.

      • Is there a simple guide? I have looked at jailbreaking my phone but it seems confusing. Plus the fakelocator app doesnt get past their location tracker, it knows.

  • I didn't contact them but it seems I cannot lock from my personal account with error A01. It works on my family's account signed onto the same phone though.

  • I don't do the e chopper thing, but me and my brother had been locking prices for each other when one of us found a cheaper price in our areas.
Obviously we log in to both accounts on our phones.
    Now both accounts are locked.
That means we'll spend our money somewhere else, even it's a bit more expensive.
    I don't think it's a wise move from 7-11

    • Just make a new account using another email address..
Also to be fair 7/11 did the right thing here, you were breaching their T&C’s..

      • +1

        I wouldn't.
It's how I used it. And if they won't let me anymore, I'll spend my money somewhere else. No big deal LOL

I already know you’re stubborn and won’t change your mind, but this advice is for others reading this.
Lock the price on your account and on your device then just send a screenshot of the barcode to your mate/friend/family instead of using the same account on multiple devices.
I do this and never had an issue.
