[NSW] Arlec 7 Outlet Powerboard with Wi-Fi Range Extender $15 @ Bunnings (Bankstown Airport)

200

I saw these on special at Bunnings Bankstown Airport and thought they might be handy for someone. Pretty cheap for a 7 port power board. The wifi extender is just a bonus if it works well.

Pretty cheap for a 7 port power board.

Never cheap out on electrical power boards. More so when plugging in half a dozen things. It's always worth paying extra for better quality and surge protection. Should be OK for a bunch of LED lights or light usage but never for TVs, vacuum cleaners, computers etc.

TVs and Computers don't consume much. Usually you will be fine as long as the power board is compliant and approved.

There's two issues with what you are saying.
1 - Surge protection is not always caused by what is plugged in. It can come from elsewhere in the power system of your home/grid. As such you want to protect the high value electrical (TV/computer).

2 - Averaging across an entire year, sure the PC and TV might not consume as much total electricity as other appliances that run 24 hours, such as a fridge. But problems with cheap power boards arise from instantaneous usage, not average. Computers (gaming in particular) have one of the highest peak electrical consumption (conservatively 200W+) of all household gear - bar reverse cycle coolers.

You say they don't consume much, with much being a relative term. What are you relating this to?

  • Anyone had personal experience with appliances or whatever being destroyed due to a powerboard fault?

I get that it's an extra layer of safety for your more expensive / hard to replace electronics / electrical items, but I've had no experience with a powerboard failing and taking down connected devices with it.

It is available and the same price on the Powerpass app for me so I'm guessing this is nationwide. I/N: 0161029.
