Still not worth giving out your personal info

    • +6

For existing optus customers impacted by their last breach, what else do they have to lose?

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, free amazon prime.

    • We'll, since they've giving out my personal info anyway…

  • Can this be stacked if I already have an annual membership?

    • +1

New or lapsed account users, not active members.

    • Nope

    • If you give out your TFN then it can be stacked with more fraud.

  • +16

Not if you've used StubHub before. They gave 12 months initially

    • Oh right, so this "deal" is actually a reduction from 12 months to 6 months?

    • Yeah I got the 12 months before, but not eligible now.

      • Has your current 12 months sub expired?

        • Yes it did back in August.

          • @ymmf: Ah bummer, so sounds like if previously taken 12 months free through Sub Hub you won't be able to get this 6 months free now ☹

  • Thanks OP

  • +6

Shame it's not for existing Prime users.

    • +12

Ask Amazon to cancel the Prime membership and issue the pro-rate refund, I just did that and they refunded me $49, then re-subscribe through Optus for 6 months.

      • +3

Worked right away, wow. Thanks, mate.

May as well get SOMETHING for my hacked deets.

      • +2

They won't cancel mine. Can you upload a screenshot please.

I have 9 months left and they said I used more than $59 worth of value.

        • +1

Wouldn't refund mine either. Hopefully this is still active around my renewal date (August!!!!)… But prob not

Edit: People below saying may be until 30 August 2023!!! So… Have set a calendar reminder 😊

          • @Lister55: That would be amazing. Cause mine runs out September. Thanks for letting me know.

  • +2

I'm just glad to get the 6 months free. At one point they didn't have any such deal for months

    • Thanks for sharing it with us :)

  • considering how much scamming all the clients are exposed to now these are quite pathetic deals imho

    • +10

So untrue it's laughable and juvenile.

Optus or no optus, there are millions of POTENTIAL scams out there. I have had ZERO increase. Media hype and hysteria.

      • I don’t think it’s hype and hysteria. The concern is legitimate. It’s just that nothing really came of it apart from an initial list of customer details (and the potential of more being out there).

        • +2

C'mon. The Optus leaked data is everywhere, nothing new.

Hell, my passport data is sitting in hundreds of hotels and other travel businesses all over the world. It's not secret and has never been private or secure. It's just the Ozzie process of ID that's broken.

          • +1

@BBF: Sure it’s sitting in lots of places, but the ability to easily find a name, address, licence in one database (being Optus, there would be a good chance of a particular person being on it) is a lot easier than gaining access to a particular service business.

Having said that, I also agree with your comment.

      • That's kinda like saying I've never won lotto, lotto winners don't exist.

    • I'm not actually much butthurt about my privacy breach. I've had a couple of letters from the government about them having potentially "lost" my data, so all my stuff has probably been out there anyway.
I was just hoping Optus would roll out better deals to buy back some good will.
But looks like most people are as apathetic as me, and Optus sees no reason to try harder.

  • Thanks . My amazon prime expires in 9 days

  • Good shite. Prime FTW.

  • Do you cancel and resign up if existing customer?
Does it have to be new email?

    • I cancelled my yearly, got a refund, then enabled this and it LOOKS like its letting me continue

    • If existing member it will need to expire beforehand. Cancelling before expire date will do nothing as the date needs to pass as the membership is still active and cancelling will simply stop automatic renewal.

      • I had paid a yearly subscription, it looks like it cancelled it right away - what you say is definitely correct for monthly subscriptions but this looks different -

I can see a refund of $39.53 on my Amazon transactions - hasn't shown up in bank yet but looks legit
        Amazon now says
"Your Prime membership is activated through OPTUS. For any membership billing questions, contact OPTUS"

        • +2

How did you cancel your Prime? Did you phone/chat their agent? If you cancel via their website you will need to wait till your billing cycle.

          • @kampret: Cancelled via website, only like hour ago or so.
Again, maybe its something to do with it being a yearly subscription rather than a monthly

            • @bitslow: I cancelled via website but says it expires on expiry date

              • @easternculture: Dont know what to tell you, I don't think I missed any steps - it asked am i sure and all that guff, I confirmed, then checked and it said I wasn't a member but i could rejoin at any time. then I subhubbed, and now its active again.
I dont think theres any harm in what you did as this offer is valid until umm August? (I think)

              • @easternculture: I had the same, expires September 2023 after cancelling which isn't very helpful haha

  • Awesome, had previously claimed 12 months on my SubHub account, and due to this post I checked my missus account… Nice surprise to be able to claim another 6 months on her account 😄

  • +1

    Used to be 12 months

    • I'm still on my 12 month free prime membership through optus. Finishing soon though.

  • Do I need to cancel autorenewal on Amazon and Optus SubHub?

    • I did that and tried but am getting an error message. I assume it's because the membership doesn't expire for another 3 weeks.

  • I got 1 year a year ago. Have they downgraded they offer?

    • Yeah

    • not only, but they didnt have any offer till now after the 12 months was taken off

  • Thank you OP!

  • +2

That's the least they can do in return of my ID.

    • -4

Not really. Optus is nice for offering. Medibank didnt do a thing and still havent done a thing. Mainly cause Optus paid for everything like new license and passports a month before they got hit.

  • do you need to unsubscribe manually before trial expires? i dont want them to continue charge me when the free trial finish

    • -1

How hard is it to check and post back?

    • +3

Yes, my free 12 months recently expired, then got changed $6.99 for the next month

    • +1

just did some tests, i can unsubscribe immediately and it wont cancel the free trial but it will stop auto-renew when free trial ends

      • +5

unsubscribe immediately and you'll only get the first month free, then it will cancel. To get the 6 months free, you need to cancel in the last month of the trial. You'll see a monthly $0 charge on each Optus bill, then it will auto-renew at $6.99

  • thanks. i missed last time as they withdrew the bloody offer without any notice. this time no waiting.

  • +1

not working for me.. probably coz i got it activated already on my previous optus subhub… :(

  • Thank you got it!

  • Damn, I already did this once but it was 3 months

  • +2

No dice on a pro rata refund on my yearly.

I have 9 months left and 52 shipments used and other services.

You're welcome. Before cancelling prime, I want to mention there there will be no refund amount if prime is cancelled.

Because free shipping benefit was used on 52 shipments.

And other prime services were used

On the prime shipments on which the prime free standard shipping was taken,, those shipping charges will be calculated, prime videos viewed by you, prime music service used by you, those all amounts will be calculated, if the services are used is more than $59, there is no eligible refund amount if prime is cancelled.

    • +1

Yes I just did the live chat and while I'm only 1 month into 12mth membership they said it is fully used by expedited delivery and prime video.

      • They said the same for me. But ended up giving me a $30 voucher as I have 5 months remaining.

  • I haven't use SubHub before and it's not letting me add prime sub or any other subscriptions.

It also says my account is pending activation but I've been on my postpaid for 7 months now, anyone know how to activate accounts?

    Thanks

  • Thanks OP, just put it on my alternate Amazon accs

    • +11

I agree with your sentiment, I think …

… but, damn, it wouldn't hurt to take a breath and use some punctuation and structure. Some friendly advice.

  • I signed up to the Pixel Optus deal, so I have an account but I paid my bill when I cancelled the plan.

    Would this apply?

I actually pay my Amazon monthly, so cancelling should be easier.

    • You need an active service.

  • Didnt work for me. Tried to cancel prime account to enable this but kept giving an error

  • +8

PSA for people that signed up, the 6 months free is a monthly discount so you can't cancel subscription early.
If you try to unsub now you'll only get free for the month. ie wait till 5th month before cancelling to avoid auto renewal.

  • I had 12 months free previously and just paid one month for BF deals- due to renew in 3 days so just cancelled and hopefully will be able to take up this 6 months free in a few weeks time 😁

  • How long is this offer valid for ?

  • too bad already used the 12 months offer when SubHub first came out

  • Good deal. I've got nothing to lose so gonna give it a go

  • My Prime expires next months, how long will this deal go for?

    • +1

Same. I took it anyway and didn’t want to risk it so I just think of it as 5 months free.

    • +2

if im not wrong, this deal ends august 2023, plenty time left. im assuming you can start your 6 month free prime in ausgust 2023 if u want to

      • +1

Amazon Prime 6 months on us offer available until 30 August 2023.

  • Thanks OP

  • I went to check this offer because I had thought my free subhub 12month Amazon prime membership was due to expire given I signed up Oct 2021. It still says $0 for me and “Offer:Included for the life of your plan”.

Not sure when that kicked in though?

  • +3

I had 3 weeks left on my yearly Prime membership. Went on to their chat and said I wanted to cancel it immediately. The CSR cancelled it as requested. I asked if I can have $5 back for the 3 weeks pending - he said no. His next line was - I refunded you all $59 for the 12 months, Merry Xmas.

    • Wow, nice CSR. Mine was a scrooge. Only 1 month usage from renewal in Nov 2022. Asked for pro-rata cancellation. Only refunded $41.30. I asked if only prime costs $6.99, why is pro-rata taking such a huge chunk. He said I have used 17 deliveries, during the 1 month hence this one-time only refund. Feels ripped off now.

  • I have canceled my subscription via optus hub. but it is active till 1st jan 2023. I guess if the offer is still there then I can resubscribe via optus.

    • Mine won’t expire until the 19th Jan 🙁 Will have to just hope the offer hangs around for a month

      • Couldn't you just make a second amazon account?

        • Trouble is it’s within Optus Hub that says subscription cancelled expires Jan 19th. Even if I created a new Amazon account I can’t use the offer within Optus Hub with a subscription yet to expire.

  • +1

Pls note the subscription should auto renew at the end of free period. If u dont want to conntinue, u need to keep an eye

    • Hmm.. ok.. it says that the subcription is managed via partner but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Nice one OP. I managed to activate it :)

  • Does anyone know how long do these typically lasts? Amazon randomly offered me another prime 30-day trial few days ago and now it wont expire until 18 Jan even though I cancelled.

    • The post mentioned 6 months

      • Sorry I meant the offer, seems they’re quite vague about it “Offer valid until withdrawn.”

        • I think you should try and see whether you can activate this one. Don't think missing out on 6 months Prime for 30 days trial is worth it.

          • +1

@Blackcat2: Tried it! Works and automatically cancelled my free trial to managed by optus.

  • My subscription after the 12 months expires 28/12, I think it will be the first month on paid subs after the 12 months , will cancel and try and resubscribe to the offer .

  • +1

    What customers? 😂
