And don't WD still solder the USB board to the internal drive on their portable's?

  • thanks bought 1

Wow this is exactly what I paid for the 4tb passport 6 years ago from Amazon. Cant believe this is still at the same price.

  • maximum order is 1 unit.. they do have seagate 4tb for $138 ea but there is a price offer of $135 ea for Prime members - which i got some - and now the $3.00 discount has disappeared.

  • Is this any good for XBox Series S back up?

  • Those that want more than 1 - Amazon allow you to have multiple accounts to the same address, and also you can price match with JB Hifi.

    • I queried this in the 14tb deal and was suggested Amazon may not okay friendly with people doing that.

This compared to samsung ones just for use as storage for files/photos?

    • Apples and oranges. Samsung is SSD and 5x the $/TB, but has advantages like speed and shock durabilty. WD is a traditional HDD (spinning rust) but I would still use it for important storage as you can get multiples (for backups) for much less than the SSD.

What you should be asking is WD vs Seagate? As WD solder the USB interface to the internal drive so you're stuffed if/when the USB port/board craps itself.

      • Are you saying its better to get Seagate ? because they aren't soldered or something ?

        • +1

Yes, you can remove Seagate's from their enclosure and use a normal SATA interface.
