  • How do you claim it for $49? I tried it and it shows $149 in my Cart.

  • it says $149…is this suppose to start later or something?

  • It said on the main page 1/2 price and shop online, so expect available now.

May be try call their online support line, you can order it over the phone.

    1300 366 644

    • half price $149 is not $49 however

      • Did you scroll down the description page and read? Or the main DSE page?

Don't neg me if you don't know how to read.

        • firstly I never negged anything, I think its a good deal
secondly it was showing at $149 on the product page, but the deal said save $50 now $49
No need to get your knickers in a twist, obviously a problem on DSE end, just commenting on their apparent lack of maths ability

    • +1

Website pricing has now been updated: http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2841WEB/ Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

  • not working for me, unfortunately still showing $149 plus 9.95 postage.

  • +2

I'm still waiting for an explanation from Dick Smith as to why they can't deliver my order with the MCD183 from last week, they're "out of stock" according to their CSR, yet still selling them online >.>

    • +1

Im still waiting on delivery of my MCD122 from that same deal

      • +1

did you get the same useless "please contact on blah blah blah" note on the order, with no actual notification other than that that the order wasn't going through?

if they're going to cancel or delay orders, some actual communication from them would be nice, like an email, shouldn't have to constantly check the orders page to see whether they've deigned to send it - especially after taking the money >.>

  • This is a great sounding unit even at retail price.

    • have u got one? how is the base on this speakers? on low volume is the base good?

      "Offer ends 17/7/2012"

didn't say ends at or ends after this day. so guess it ended at 00.00am! LOL
      shows $149 for me

      Bottom says..

think they forgot the 1 in front of 49.

      • +7

Looks like a plastic base. Maybe wood… :P

        • sorry, what i meant was SOUND BASS LOL!… my bad.. speaker Bass.. not base of unit.. hehehe

        • For it's size the "base" is pretty good, and they do play quite loud without distorting. If you are a bass head you will need something bigger and dearer. However under $200 there is not much choice these days as everything is a tiny Ipod dock - this is miles better than any of those!

  • How do you claim it for $49??? always check yourself and then post…

  • I think DSE made a few typos.

    • I wouldn't say they made typos
According to the following DSE link they were selling it for $99
      http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2841/philips-dvd-micro-hif…

      • They've fat-fingered the online special price.

The $149 price is on the catalogue number "AE2841WEB" - ones ending in WEB indicate online-only specials or bundles.

The $99 price is the normal special on the regular item "AE2841".

Logically, the web-only special should be cheaper than the regular item, and the banner on the front page is consistent with that - $49 save $50 matches the normal item being priced at $99.

"Half price" and "$49" are mistakes. The correct price for the special is $99 at this URL:
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2841/philips-dvd-micro-hif…

    • +2

The is the same model but difference which you can click and collect.

      http://upload.ozbargain.com/2012/07/16/8951_philips.jpg

Main page image about the special. I would suggest anybody want it give DSE online support a call the number in my post.

      • i see this on main now..
        maybe website hasn't update yet

I just ordered it over the phone. Price is $49. The guy didn't know why the website wasn't working… said they have been having a few issues :)

  • Anyone tried click and collect? Don't wanna pay $10 if I can pick it up :S

  • +1

Also just ordered it over the phone @ $49!… guy needed his supervisor number to over-ride the price to $49 but wasn't sure what is wrong with the website.

Confirmation email just received at $49!

    • Are you getting it delivered? or picking up?

      • Delivered. Didn't ask about pickup.

        • Nice, doesn't say anywhere on the web about delivery being free! Good stuff!

        • Delivery was $9.95 to my area…. only the system was $49

  • +4

about to call up n order but after looking at back panel there is no HDMI output, only standard RCA and Component Connection with 1 Stereo RCA Input for another source.

    • Nice spot. Dealbreaker for me. Thanks.

  • Ordered one over the phone. Had to manually over ride the price. Bargain.

  • Link to set - http://www.philips.com.au/c/audio-system/mcd122_98/prd/
I just bought this on weekend to replace my busted bedroom player and the Phillips deal looks better.
Might pass that to the kids - http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2848/dick-smith-cd-micro-h…

Update: Also ordered over phone. No option for collect so with $9.95 delivery, comes to $58.95.

In the specs it says dvd region 3?!

  • Just ordered one over the phone all good :)

  • it seems like it doesnt play videos via usb?

Anyone else get charged delivery? charged me extra $9.95…..

  • +1

Anyone know if this can be attached to a LCD TV.

    • Can't see why not, if your LCD tv has audio out, then you should be able to. Even through the headphones port of your TV.

      • Thanks

    • Does your tv have coaxial input? if so, yes, you can hook it up to your tv.

  • Jeez, these lines must be running hot, still on the phone for the past 10mins…

  • Just ordered online with no issues, used staff discount card and got it down another $2.45.

    • +1

They have just fixed the online ordering page.

  • FM Antenna connection, Digital audio connection, coaxial out connection, Headphone 3.5 mm jack, Analogue Audio Out (L/R), RCA Aux in, USB, 3.5mm stereo line in - Video Output: Composite CVBS (yellow cinch), Component Y Pb Pr (cinch)

Looks like it has component and RCA in, so yes you can attach this to any LCD.

  • just tried ordering online and all good.

    Item Subtotal $49.00
    Delivery Charge $9.95

    Total $58.95

  • +6

Yes, they have changed the online price now. So, I ordered one. And I absolutely don't need it! Thank you OzBargain! =)

    • dont ya just hate seeing a bargain and knowing you have no use for it.

      • +2

        That's why I posted it but I didn't order it. :p

  • +3

is the sound quality any good??

  • +1

Just got one and i needed it.

  • they have also removed the reviews on this product from previous customer.
the reviews were all pretty bad.

find the separated page with the review:
    http://dicksmith.com.au/product/AE2841/philips-dvd-micro-hif…

    • Wouldn't read too much into those reviews. A guy says it has good sound yet rates it a 2 star? For $49 that's all you can ask for (although I guess he paid the $149RRP).

  • +1

guys, for more photos of the unit, click the link below
    http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/product/AE2841/philips-dvd-micro-…

    Good review on Amazon UK

  • +1

No HDMI, only support region 3 and 4…

  • Guys, can you have an android phone plugged into it and play music straight off that or do I have to put all my mp3s on a usb stick and use that to play music?

    • You can use the 3.5mm audio in jack.

  • It's now available online the normal way

  • +2

Feel sorry for the geezers who spent all that time on the phone.

    • They answered my call straight away, whole thing took about 3 mins.

      • +1

Then you are clearly not the geezer I speak of.

  • I almost got the Bauhn one from Aldi. http://www.lasoo.com.au/catalogue/aldi-catalogue-special-buy… Lucky it wasn't in stock when I checked. I guess Philips is better even though it doesn't have HDMI. And Yes I was one of the geezers who spent all that time on the phone ordering one but sales Rep Jamie was nice to deal with!

  • Its also not limited to 1 per customer, aswell the delivery didnt go up for the extra unit ie delivery was $9.95 for 2

  • Would this be good just for the speakers? Want to use on my PC.

    • You'll still need the DVD unit as I assume the amp is in there.

      • Ok thanks won't bother then.

  • Great post fella, picked one up for my old lady.

  • Good post

do i pat my head two or three times???

    • does this really work on this unit?

  • +9

I hate you ozbargain. I don't need one but ordered it anyway :/

    • +2

I'll take it off your hands. :P

  • Does anyone know what sort of equalizer has this got….I can't see any mention on philips site.
I'm just after something like this so when I play those very bassy movies, I can turn up the treble/etc & actually hear what's been said. the dvd option is good too.

    • not sure with 40watts rms can be loud enough for any deep bass as I used to own a 200watts unit wihch was quite loud for the whole floor. it's a hard decision.

      • Thanks actually I dont want the bass…I want to lower the bass & boost the rest.
I had a quick flip through the manual & there's preset Eq & also
"Automatic loudness control increases the treble and bass effect at low volume levels"
        which sounds even better….

        • just bought one. hope it sounds good. I read a few reviews that they comment the speakers are quite good :)

  • I hope this has AM radio, or I'm a dead man

  • +1
  • +4

    Thanks for the manual links

those who want to region free

    Turn on unit.
    Select DISC input,
    Open Tray,
    9,9,9,9 .
Your preset region appears on the screen.
    Select multiregion (0)
    close tray.
    Turn off unit.
    DONE.

  • bought one thanks even have no need for it.
Now just have to come up with an excuse to justify the purchase to the finance minister… :P

Oh BTW - dont forget the 3.5% rebate from Starthere…

  • I wonder how many they have? I was late to the party and expected to be disappointed, but no.

    • The guy on the phone told me they have 'a fair bit' in stock at their warehouse. Doesn't really mean much anyway lol…

  • +1

got one! doesn't anyone know if this unit comes with a remote control?

    • +1

Remote control: 38-key with Lithium batteries

  • +1

Looks like a great deal, but still doesn't have a big feature that justifies me purchasing it..

    • It supports divx/xvid , but not x264 mkv
    • it supports composite & component , but not HDMI
    • no AM radio (I listen to AM way more than FM)
    • its supports MP3 .. but not FLAC

Note: for the price I'm not expecting those features or criticising the deal, it's a great one for many, and I'm sure it has awesome sound quality .. just don't think it would be any use for me.

  • Just ordered - thanks OP

  • So a dummies question regarding the USB input that this device has got? If I connect my USB, and it has got photos, will the device act like say a media player? Will it show up my photos nicely and can I control the navigation of media via a remote?

    • should be fine so long as the device is formatted to Fat32, most of these devices do not connect to NTFS file systems …

  • ordered 1..great find

  • DSE is the best!

  • average quality at best, each speaker only has a single 4" driver, and the weight is 1.5kg/speaker, less than 2kg for the main unit. Can't expect good sound from this.

    • +1

For less than $60, it's bang for the buck. You get dvd player, usb media player, fm radio, remote, speakers and etc… If you can find any decent device that does above for the same price, please let me know.

  • Anyone know if This is fine to use as speakers for my laptop?
