wonder if we see on the news that baby dies because somebody put it on a baby, hopefully comes with a warning.

    • +2

      Huh??
Surely this applies to all blankets.

      What is your point?

      • +9

Weighted blankets are a specific danger to babies
        https://rednose.org.au/article/weighted-blankets

        • I suspect people without the common sense to not put a weighted blanket on a child won't read safety warnings.

      • +1

        it’s 7 kg …..normal blankets aren’t 7kg …..what do they weigh them down with ….

  • To those who are using this 'weighted' blanket, is it really all cracked up to be? In other words, does it really do or effective as far as descriptions go?

    • +1

I bought one from Costco to try for one of my kids that kept waking up. Worked for her although we only used it for a bit. One night I just could not get to sleep for hours. Dragged it out the cupboard and I think I was out instantly. Might just be a placebo but yes it worked

I sometimes have pain in my back or legs after long workout. Whenever i go inside weighted blanket, it relieve those pains.

    • +1

Effective or not, they're definitely, at a minimum, cosy as heck on a cold day

It’s a personal thing. We all have different sensory profiles and for some people, the proprioceptive input from weighted blankets (and other deep pressure) can be very regulating. Personally, I find weighted blankets really uncomfortable - like being crushed - but my wife, who usually finds it difficult to fall asleep, falls asleep much, much better with a weighted blanket.

I love mine. Sometimes I can’t sleep without it, even on a hot day. It’s a sensory thing.

    • I find it helps. I can sometimes be a bit restless and it stops me from moving a bit.

  • Its weird that it doesn't have a size guide as I have read you need to get specific weights dependant on your own weight.
I've wanted a weighted blanket for quite some time but haven't purchased one yet because there are so many available and I have no idea how a $200 one compares to a $100 or $20 one etc.

    • The Spotlight cooling weighted blanket is pretty nice, often comes under $40

    100% polyester…its a no from me.

    • Please enlighten us…non blanket material connoisseurs. What can go wrong?

      • +3

        Here are some good reasons

Of those, number 9 is the primary reason for me.

        • Thank you

        • Polyester can affect sperm count in men

I did a literature search on this last year and people would be shocked at how effective polyester (and nylon) is at sterilising men. It was so effective they were trying to figure out how to turn it into a form of birth control, but eventually abandoned it because the sterilising effect takes a couple of months to set in and even longer to "undo" the effect after ceasing use.

Is this blanket big enough for a man and two women?

    • +10

No, not when they are fully inflated, you have to let some air out. So I’m told.

    • Polyester. Sounds nasty.

  • aaaand it's gone

  • dont bother. i thought it was a great idea,

i learned that heavy blanket doesn't warmer. i was still cold as (profanity) with a weighted blanket on top of me. it feels like you have tons of blankets on top because it is heavy, and you would think you are warmer, but you aren't. i think it is filled with beads or something. it is a great novelty at first, but pointless after a few weeks. gave it to my kids, they felt like they were dying in bed. now it just collects dust.

It’s a therapeutic tool and not suited for everyone.

      https://www.pennmedicine.org/updates/blogs/health-and-wellne…

If it’s clean, could try donating to a local Paeds OT or daycare etc?

    • I had the opposite expeience. I felt warmer, I believe because the weight of the blanket means it's not puffed up anywhere, so it's more "fitted" if you can use that term. Aside from that I slept better with it, as in I woke up less during the night and felt like I'd have a deeper sleep in the morning, but when weather got warmer I had to ditch it. I'll pull it out again when it gets colder for sure.

I wouldn't bother if you don't have some night trouble, like trouble getting to or staying asleep or having a deep enough sleep.

  • Wow! Didn't know weighted blanket is a thing, thought it's just a way to describe it's good quality and warmer than regular blankets. So it's actually heavier but without keeping extra warmth.

    • Yes its meant to help with anxiety etc, apparently gives a feeling of safety / being hugged, and some people claim its also the feeling your body will get when you were in the womb.
