Air Asia Domestic Thailand Flights

Just wondering if anyone has any experience booking these and advice on whether I should be booking now or perhaps waiting for a sale or price reduction?

Looking at mid December dates - Phuket / Chiang Mai / Phuket. Currently, pricing AUD150 each way.

In my experience Air Asia are often not the cheapest. $150 each way seems a little high to me but it is december….near xmas…. but i do not go to Chaing Mai from Phuket (well once years ago) so it could be ok. There is no need to book december fares now.

    You should always search
    Air Asia
    Nok
    Thai Lion
    Thai Smile
and now viet jet but i have never used them

Thai Lion includes 10kg check in
    Thai Smile is 20kg
Nok and Air Asia are extra

in terms of reliability Nok is the worst, but often the cheapest. Not flights get moved all the time, usually not by much though. Nok have quite high payment surcharges compared to the rest which often takes them aboue the thai lion price
Lion is usually ok (my personal pick)
The other 2 are pretty good with Thai Smile usually being the most expensive but it does have the most baggage and their service is pretty good

All use, in the main, Don Meung except for Thai Smile, and that can be handy if you are flying out of suvarnabhumi expecially with included baggage when going home
Best bet is to check all 4 at the same time and pick the best taking into account fees

I have no problems say picking nok for oubound and lion for inbound f it works out cheaper that way as well so you have to do a tad of detective work to get the best price

I took 11 internal flights in Thailand last year and barring covid have done at least that every year since 2009

  • Also their airport KLIA2 is getting very run down. Used to be shiny and new, but when I was there in 2019 and I was laying down waiting for my flight. I had a rat scurry over me and wake me up.

    • That has nothing to do with a domestic Thai flight.

  • Seems like Thai Air Asia are the only airline to offer direct Phuket/Chiang Mai/Phuket flights … so maybe a cheaper deal on that route might be hard to come by. :(

  • I just did a quick search on Google Flights and HKT-CNX one way on December 15 is coming up at $76. Where are you seeing $150?

Yeah, I can see the return date price has dropped a bit for the dates I’m after - thanks for looking!
