Salomon XA Pro 3D Men's Shoes $112.50 Delivered (RRP $250) @ Salomon Australia

200
QT75GMC9

Same price as this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/775979 but for the Non GTX version of the shoe (no waterproof membrane).

Still a good deal at $112.50 delivered with most sizes in stock. I used the coupon code QT75GMC9 for 10% off as posted by @thecraw in the previous GTX deal. Thanks!

What’s the difference with the GTX version of this shoe as oppose to the stock standard Salomon XA 3D Pro ?

The GTX on this shoe stands for Gore-Tex which means that the GTX’s are fairly waterproof. To give you an idea I walk to and from work each day for a combined distance of 7.5 km and in winter find that when walking through long grass the non Gore-Tex Salomon XA 3D Pro will get wet from either the rain or frost when walking through long grass, and this moisture penetrates through to my feet. Not a good thing in -5° Celsius temperatures. The Gore-Tex version doesn’t have this problem and as such my feet stay dry
In addition this waterproofing means that the GTX version doesn’t breathe as well so in winter my feet stay warmer; also a plus. The downside of this reduced breathability is my feet stay warmer in summertime to a point where I find that the GTX version is too hot and my feet sweat excessively. The reduced breathability also means that if you are walking through ankle deep, or deeper, streams that the Gore-Tex version will take longer to dry out

Want GTX for that price. Sadly no stock in my size.

    • me too but I doubt it's going to happen. It seems some got their order cancelled in the previous deal due to lack of stock…

I had a couple of pairs of non-GTX XA Pro 3D for the last 10 years, never been an issue unless out in very wet or very cold snowy weather.

I spray them with waterproof Atsko Silicone Waterguard https://www.bcf.com.au/p/atsko-silicone-waterguard-300g/1661… which helps in wet weather

    • 10uk back in stock. 1 pair.

Pro Dumb@ss tip: If you have both the GTX and non-GTX version of this shoe, remember which one you are wearing when walking through water and your socks don't get saturated*

Since I've seen a few questions about GTX and not on other posts this is my take. Generally speaking in Australia if you could only have one pair of hiking/trail shoes, non-GTX is the way to go. If you're asking the question about normal vs GTX most of the time normal will be better for you.

  • damn, no wide size for this one

  • Ive traveled with both pairs in years past. The GTX seemed to last longer and take more abuse, but for 90% of the time I was traveling in hotter temperatures and while being extremely comfortable, they kept the feet too hot. I could have swapped them out for sandals or thongs but prefer long walks in shoes.
I'd definitely buy them again for a colder/wet weather shoe, but for an everyday all purpose shoe I'd go for the non GTX. YMMV

  • 1 amendment OP, the price difference is not what review says it is. There is now no price difference on the Salomon website between the two shoes, just a lack of stock in most sizes for GTX after it was advertised here.

    • I just copy / pasted some info I found on a website to let people know the differences between the 2 shoes as I could not find any info directly on Salomon's website.

      • I know I've read the review, but it's worth editing out the price difference bit as it's no longer true

        • good point, I removed the sentence. Wonder why they are priced the same…

Where is all this stock coming from?! I thought this model was discontinued years ago after they released the V8 version. I bought a pair in wide sizing while I was in Japan, early 2020, and the store rep said this model wasn’t coming back. Anyway, great deal which I would be all over if they had wide sizes!

  • Love these shoes, thanks!

  • Salomon said they are expecting new stock in June-July, so maybe getting rid of older models..
