now to figure out what i need to waste money on

They make a good gift for people you know. Nice to meet you.

    • +12

And that's why RBA gotta keep raising rates :)

      • +2

The day this site stops hyping useless overpriced shit or landfill form amazon is the day the RBA will probably stop, lol.

        • You know u can select categories to get notifications to so you don't see all the hyping useless overpriced shit lol (no offense towards posters intended - some1s trash is another person's treasure)

Been on here since maybe 2019/20 I think and I've picked up some really useful bargains that I actually do use regularly.

Personally I've concluded through insufficient research, personal observation, family losing money and life in the last gfc through a super account and just general life bullshitery that the Australien government fuuked us all by creating this housing bubble in oz as a result of the last gfc which is why we have inflammation-inflation now. Last year I wanted to see 0.5% increases not the piddle-shitter-lowe pushing 0.25% - you don't fix an economy by driving through it at 40k/hr, or like scomo by driving demand so high you fuuk up the supply chains - it's called CRUISE CONTROL!

      • -1
        1. It's cause people ain't buying shit lol
        2. They over spent on house/land outside of their means and now they're fuuked.
        3. All those Gen Qs hoarding their money for some apocolyptic day
    • Well said.

Do I have enough fishing rods and beauty products I wonder.

    • No rush - you have 3 years time to think of it ;)

  • +1

Now we are talking, good deal. My TCN from last 15% is running out

    • What do you spend them on?

      • +1

after I commented realised TCN Home is not included this time, mainly used previous ones at JB, will buy a couple this time for H&M and TK Maxx

        • The last lot which were only 10% that finished on 13/6 had Kids and Teens and one other that had JB and Officeworks on them. Stupid me loaded a variable card with $330 and no discount cause I didn’t look at the big “EXCLUDING various load cards”

I’m being told they cannot refund it. D’oh :-/

Anyone tried to get a refund on a TCN card before? Otherwise I’ll convert it into Apple gift cards at JB.

  • +2

rebel is good i need a new basketball so i can shoot like westbrick

    • Or dunk like Benny.

      • nah i prefer to pass up a wide open dunk against a guy who is barely 6 foot coz i scared

  • +4

No him, her or kids zzz

  • Since when have these been no good at JB?

  • What denominations are available for the Choice card?

    • +4

I have only seen two denominations for Choice gift cards at Coles recently:

      • $50
      • $20-$500 variable load (which is excluded from this deal)

There could be other Choice gift card denominations, but I have not seen them (and I have been in at least ten different Coles supermarkets within the last week…)

  • +10

    That’s crap no jb

  • +2

That is disappointed, coles owe Queenslander a 10% master card promo

    • Just a matter of time. It was like 1-2 weeks wait last time

  • Get $200 worth of cards for $170. BCF has a $20 discount for $200 spend. Need a new sleeping bag and fishing gear. Bargain!

  • +1

watch out hardly any retailers accept online use if that's your intended purpose

    • I've had dramas using Intersports and Sportspower in stores. Does anyone know if there are dramas using BCF online?

      • +5

For BCF, if you want to use a TCN gift card from this deal on the BCF website, you can do one of two things:

        1. Use the TCN gift cards in store to purchase a BCF gift card. (You should be able to use up to 5 TCN gift cards in one transaction instore at BCF.)

        2. Go to the webpage for the TCN gift card you have and follow the prompts the exchange part or the full balance of your TCN gift card for a digital BCF gift card.

Keep in mind that if you opt to turn your TCN gift card into a BCF gift card, you will be tied to the terms and conditions of the BCF gift card, including any redemption limits it may have. For example, the BCF website says you can redeem an unlimited number of BCF gift cards in one instore transaction, but only a maximum of three BCF gift cards in one online transaction.

        • +1

Thanks, wish I could do a double upvote. Pity I was wanting to do option 2 with 5x $50 TCN cards. My closest BCF is 80km away and was hoping to purchase online

          • +1

@heal: TCN Active gift cards are sold in a $100 denomination too, so you could exchange it for a $100 BCF gift card. Hopefully that helps, otherwise see this deal as a way to get a 15% discount on the first $150 - $300 you spend online at BCF!

    • Cards have been changed fairly recently - set up for more online purchases and adding to Apple Pay Wallet, GPay and Samsung Pay so you can use them with NFC on a terminal if you want. Also whatever restrictions were on the older cards which made buying online has been fixed and/improved.

Read the website or back of cards, don’t get one with EFTPOS logo. Look for Apple Pay, GPay and Samsung logos top left. These have all new capabilities.

      • I’m confused.

Are you sure you are talking about physical TCN gift cards? I have not seen any physical TCN Active/Shop/Choice gift cards recently that advertise you can add them to a mobile wallet, plus the TCN webpages for these three gift cards does not tell you how to go about adding it to a mobile wallet. It only talks about swiping physical gift cards or exchanging them for a digital gift card from a participating retailer.

It sounds like you are talking about Ultimate gift cards, because what you have described perfectly fits that gift card scheme…

  • Anyone knows whether I can use the visa card below to purchase?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/781569

  • Are these eftpos ie in store use only?

    • +6

The three gift cards in this deal all operate on the eftpos network. If you see a participating retailer on the TCN website that accepts them Instore, that means you must swipe the physical gift card on the EFTPOS terminal, select Savings and enter the PIN on the back of the gift card. It also means that the instore redemption of these gift cards are restricted by the participating retailers' rules around accepting eftpos cards. For example:

      • If the participating retailer enforces a limit to the number of eftpos cards that can be redeemed in one transaction, you will need to follow that. As an example, BCF apparently can only accept a maximum of 5 eftpos cards per instore transaction.

      • If a participating retailer levies a surcharge for eftpos payment, you will need to pay that. (I doubt it is the case for these three gift cards, but that is something to be aware of.)

There are some retailers that are marked as accepting these gift cards Online. In the world of TCN, that actually means you can exchange the gift card for a digital gift card from the retailer through the TCN website (e.g. you can exchange a TCN Active gift card for a rebel gift card). However in that case, you are then limited by the terms and conditions of the retailer's gift card. As an example, if I remember correctly, rebel only accepts a maximum of three rebel gift cards in one online transaction.

        @WookieMonster You're a champ… many thanks for the info

  • +2

Price match pet food of Pet circle etc in Petstock then use Choice gift card.

    • Do you need to do it in store?

      • I've only tried this way in store. Staffs are all happy to pricematch for me at the check out.

  • I wanna buy a new sport shoe worth $170. But I normally only see $50 in Coles , is that we can only use multiple gift card at Rebel at stores ?

    • irrelevant comment but Rebel doesn't accept change of mind return so you better be sure before buying it there.

      • +1

They say they are not fit for purpose…

  • +1

Can we buy these with Coles prepaid mastercards?

    • +2

Quoting from conditions stated for the recent Coles pre-paid Mastercard discount "Coles Mastercard Gift Cards cannot be used to purchase any other gift card sold at Coles." However, I believe you can still use them at Woolies when they have a similar offer.

    • +1

No one has recently reported whether Coles’ checkouts block you from using physical Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method for the TCN gift cards in this deal.

If you have a digital Coles Mastercard gift card, you cannot use it as a payment method instore at Coles unless you can get the EFPTOS terminal to somehow go into MOTO (mail order / telephone order) mode.

As @cryptowiz said though, it is against Coles’ store policy to use Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method for any gift cards at Coles, so if staff notice you trying to use Coles Mastercard gift cards as a payment method and they want to stop you, they can.

      • You could always try offering the merchant a dollar or two to get them to do moto. It’s just a higher cost to process, not that hard.

      • +2

Couple months ago i actually used coles gift cards to purchase Ultimate him cards. The cashier said it wont work but i insisted can we please try and it worked

  • +1

I hope Coles has stock of these giftcards unlike the debacle this week trying to get Coles Mastercard giftcards which were out of stock at all stores near me within an hour of the weekly specials starting even with limit of 5 per customer.

    • +4

I think this deal may actually be worse than the current Coles Mastercard gift card deal in terms of availability. If existing stock is depleted, it would be hard to tell whether there would be a restock during the deal.

TCN gift cards are typically restocked by someone from a gift card distributor who walks into the store and restocks the gift card shelf themselves, grabbing new stock from a bag full of unpurchased gift cards. I witnessed someone restock TCN gift cards once at a suburban Coles store and I noticed they only replenished missing stock from the shelf; I did not see them leave any additional stock in the gift card storage area. Keep in mind I witnessed this the weekend after the Black Friday 15% off selected TCN gift card deal last year and the TCN section was looking rather bare before this person turned up. If you wonder why I never bother chasing TCN gift cards (at least the ones with JB Hi-Fi) when they are 15% off, it is because I know Coles stores will struggle to have their gift card shelves restocked during such a promotion.

This stock replenishment method is different to Coles Mastercard gift cards, where store management can place orders for fresh stock with Coles head office. Assuming Coles head office is happy to fulfill the order, they will organise to have more Coles Mastercard gift cards sent to the store via courier.

Obviously, the three gift cards in this deal will probably not sell out as fast as the Coles Mastercard gift cards, because the participating retailers in this deal do not have as wide of an appeal as a prepaid Mastercard gift card (or even a TCN gift card that can be used at JB Hi-Fi), which is something you can probably gauge from the number of upvotes so far… However, you still could have one person effectively buy up a lot of the existing stock across one or two Coles stores. For example, if you have someone coming into a Coles store and wanting to purchase enough TCN gift cards to pay for a $3000 treadmill instore at rebel, they would probably be purchasing 30x $100 TCN Active gift cards or 60x $50 TCN Active / Choice / Shop gift cards. Based on what I have seen on gift card shelves at over ten Coles stores in the past week, all did not have 30x $100 TCN Active gift cards, and only a couple had over 60x $50 TCN Active / Choice / Shop gift cards.

    Baby bunting finally

    • @digitalane are you still looking for gift cards redeemable at Baby Bunting? I know you have not said recently you were looking for Baby Bunting gift cards, but I thought I would check!

  • I was looking for JB, but looks like not this time.

    • I also want to get some discounted jb gc.

  • +2

Pity none of the JB eligible cards are included… always makes buying the next big thing a bit less of a sting!

    • +7

Keep an eye out for Woolies this week…..

  • Foot Locker is pretty good, haha thanks OP

  • Anyone know if footlocker accepts the use of these cards online? In desperate need of some new shoes mine are just about worn out. Would still like to get cashback through shopback if I get something from footlocker.

    • +2

I just checked the TCN Active gift card webpage and it says Foot Locker only accepts TCN gift cards instore.

      • Yes instore only.

        • Ah damn. So 15% versus 5% or so cash back.. Might just grab the cards and go in store. Thanks

  • Even though they're labelled specifically, Do all the TCN cards work at all the stores they partner with?

  • Shame sexy mart is not included

  • Oh look Dymocks and Booktopia.. Didn't even realise this. Why did I ever purchase a Dymocks giftcard ffs - their books already overpriced. I've also found Amazon and Booktopia on many an occasion to ship damaged books - which is why now I like ordering through any local bookstore.

15% off is great :) though as gifts

  • OP needs to educate ppl on the new capabilities of these cards. No conversion to one vendor necessary now.

    • +2

      Needs to? Really?

  • Thanks OP. Might crab 1 for Supercheap auto

  • Great to see Baby Bunting back!

  • Does anyone know if there's a limit to how many gift cards you can use at Baby Bunting? (Online)

    • I'd like to know this

      • +2

Called them today to ask, there is no limit.

        • Means you could redeem as many of the TCN Choice on the baby bunting website under Redeem e-voucher or gift card?

Does it stack with cashreward? https://www.cashrewards.com.au/baby-bunting?coupon=contactle…

        • @ivyholmes I got a response from their website saying there's a limit of 5 gift cards per transaction
Perhaps the no limit is only for in-store

  • Not sure if the CHOICE card is so on demand that they even take the advertisement cardboard or the staff took them all and can't be bothered to put the advertisement cardboard in (southern cross coles, vic)

    https://imgbox.com/nn8E2djo

  • Anyone has issues using online? Do I have to wait a certain amount of time before the choice card can be used online?

    • Has anyone successfully swapped choice gift card to baby bunting voucher online?

  • I noticed that Zone Bowling is participating in TCN Active. Does anyone know if it's available for the timezone as well? Can I use it to load up the Powercard?

    • +1

I would be really surprised if the TCN Active gift card worked at Timezone, because Timezone is not listed as a participating retailer on that gift card.

According to the TCN website, the only TCN gift cards Timezone accepts are Dad, Gift, Him, Kids and Teen.

  • +1

Word of warning with the Choice gc. I took 4-5 cards to the counter and found out the hard way that they have two variants, one with fixed dollar value another with variable range. Variable range is excluded from this deal. Great way to fall for a trap if you were in a rush like I was.

    • +2

Rookie error. The title does say excludes variable load cards.

    • I just did this too… was in a rush and paid $500, realising after the fact that it was a variable card and didn’t qualify for the discount.

      • Unlucky. Never buy the cards in haste or in a rush.

  • Just had a visit and seen non of the Choice GCs left.

    Holding

  • It appears there is very limited number of $50 Choice GC in-store? I think most stores have 10, one that I went in had 20. Many stores I went in tonight had none left.

    • Yeah no $50 Choice GCs in the store I went to yesterday. Happy with the $100 Active GC though.

  • The $50 Active card in store has BCF on the front however the $100 card does not show BCF. Does anyone know whether i can buy the $100 Active card and use it at BCF?

    • +1

      It should be fine.

The $100 TCN Active gift cards you saw should be older stock, because BCF was only added to the TCN gift card scheme around October 2022.

Participating retailers are added (and less often, removed) from the TCN gift card every few weeks, and it says very clearly in clause 2 of the terms and conditions:

This Card is an eftpos prepaid gift card that can be used for electronic transactions, to purchase goods and services at participating retailers listed on The Card Network website.

BCF is listed on the TCN Active gift card webpage, therefore the terms and conditions say the $100 TCN Active gift cards you saw at Coles will work at BCF.

  • Can we use these card online?
    eg. Puma, Nike website?

    • Can we use these card online?

If you look at another comment from a few days ago, you will see what Instore and Online means in terms of the TCN gift cards in this deal.

      eg. Puma, Nike website?

I had a look at the TCN Active gift card website as an example, and it shows that Puma and Nike only accept the TCN Active gift cards Instore, which means it is only accepted in their physical stores, and you must use it by swiping it on the EFTPOS terminal like any other eftpos card.

  • Did anyone have a problem with the $200 Choice not being recognised at Coles. It came up as item not found. Thanks

    • +1

Yes had the same problem with Choice $100 and $200 cards today.

      • I have never seen $100 and $200 Choice cards before..? Seems to be either $50, or variable load

        • Okay

      • I think I might have worked out the issue. The barcode for the actual gift card may have scanned instead of the barcode to buy the card. I don’t know if the smaller denominations are the same.

    • Ok you right there is $200 but i think they no longer supposed to sell them. I found one inside the cupboard but scanned as invalid.

  • Anyone have any luck finding any in the Easter suburb stores?
    Friday and yesterday checked
Ringwood X 2 , Mitcham, tunstall square, Blackburn north, Doncaster Westfield and no luck. They only had the variable choice ones as well as the shop & active.

    • Most store only have $50 Choice and maybe 10 to max 20 cards. Not worth driving too far out for these.

  • Thanks OP the coles i went to had $50 and $100 TCN cards ($15 off for something at Rebel was handy).
