      Consumer pays for landfill. Society picks ups the impact collectively.

      Even for pens, buying a Pilot G2, using it until the ink runs out is more cost effective/environmentally friendly than a pack of cheap pens from Kmart. Not only are they shipping less, they are also using less materials to manufacture pens that eventually get thrown away, not to mention having a G2 just feels nicer in the hand.
