  • QUALITY - All of your orders are FRESH roasted.

So all orders are roasted on the same day they are sent out? Not a week before, not two days before?

    • Yes I’m gonna have the same question

    • +10

I've ordered a handful of times, always dated the same day they're shipped.

    • +1

i agree, ozmarketing all it appears to be..

lol can't believe you're hating on this to recommend aldi beans

Yes, great coffee, too. I got several 500g for free!

    • -5

Yet this person was ok to provide a negative with less argument.

Ordered the sumatra blend on the last deal given the good reviews… shipping was fast but did not enjoy this coffee at all (to a point where I still have about 600g left, I went out and bought my regular coffee from a local roaster)

Am running a La Marzocco mini and tried a variety of temps from 87deg - 93deg and a variety of doseages and times

Found it either super weak flavoured or surprisingly burnt… difficult to get a middle ground

Anyone have a good algorithm for it???

    • +5

I had the exact experience, I can’t understand that Airjo is still that popular. Are the reviews genuine? I often get downvoted when I want to warn others. Sorry that you went through that experience. Sometimes you cannot count on what the majority says.

      • I've bought Sumatra a few times and enjoyed it, prefer enterprise but still enjoyed it. But each to their own

      • People have different taste. Just because you don't like, doesn't mean others won't. Too much negativity in your tone is probably what set off the neg vote.

      • +5

Fwiw I would suggest it's either the Sumatra or personal taste. I personally had a bag of Sumatra and wouldn't get it again (slightly burnt flavours) , but have regularly had several other beans from AirJo and the decaf, and they're fantastic. The Colombia is my pick for milk coffee, but I usually drink decaf anyway which Airjos is awesome. Breville BES920

      • Bought it once or twice, was ok.. Have certainly have had a lot better.

    • +2

Yeah I got the Sumatra in a previous deal too since everyone was raving about it, it was ok but has nothing on the Inglewood Roosevelt I got next time. No fancy brewing methods, just throwing it into my Dinamica Plus.

I might try a different blend in case there's just a lot of people here who have shit taste in coffee, or are used to crappy supermarket beans and pods.

      • Inglewood is my usual go to - I prefer their 'Sunset Blvd' blend to the Roosevelt, but they're both good. I treat AirJo as a backup when I need to order and Inglewood don't have a discount on.

    • +1

Airjo isn't as good as ozbargain make it out to be..
I'm very much a coffee snob and try coffees from all over the place. I don't rate airjo that highly.. their enterprise is decent. But in general maybe 5-6/10
So you are not on your own.
https://cremacoffeegarage.com.au/ruby-tuesday-rt.html this is a much better bean for around $38

      • Don't know if a differing of subjective opinion on flavour constitutes a neg. It's a middle of the road quality product at an affordable price. Not ALDI cheap but better than ALDI (despite what their no. 1 fanboi proclaims).

        • +2

Hey champ I agree. While people are relying on sales from airjo to get these prices. The everyday price if you subscribe to Crema coffee garage system will give you 10% off any bag and always free delivery with 1kg. You can explore single origins or complex blends. The bean calibre is of higher quality.
In all fairness my fav is from euroespresso but I didn't provide that as it's more expensive again at $46/kg.
I am also giving a neg to alert people to go and explore other coffee options for similar pricing and nicer taste (as subjective as that may be)

          • +2

@maverickjohn: Good points, but wouldn't you agree most people want a) consistent & b) well priced beans that make a nice smooth-but-reasonably-strong flat white? Most of us aren't using La Marzoccos etc just BES870s. I think for the majority here this offering fits well, given the ethos of this forum. I can honestly say I make a better coffee at home with Sumatra blend on a Breville consumer grade machine than 99% of places I pay $5+ for a takeaway from.

            • +1

              @Ham Dragon: 100%
You would definitely make better coffee. And that's the great thing about being a home barista.
And while reasonable when it's on sale.
It's always worth exploring other options.i have never been shy to try new coffee. Even going as much as spending $950/kg for rare beans overseas (never re bought but tried because of the journey)
I guess the point made is try other coffees you will find some great gems.
When Sanchez goes on half price from little marionette it's worth buying. One of the best coffee beans on Sydney. But rarely on sale. Doesn't get enough upvotes but I tell you it hands down is one of the nicest I have tried.
Just don't want people thinking they need to stay with this company when many others are also really good. And when on sale similar or cheaper

        • -4

I agree, i think it is an invalid neg vote according to the voting guidelines. The commenter doesn't have a genuine issue with the product, they just prefer another. Regarding price point, any foodstuff that has options out there (think of all the types of craft coffee roasters) and value for money among them is subjective. If this is worthy of a neg because there are cheaper coffees out there, anything more expensive than Aldi beans should get negged to hell.

          • @GenghisGun: But I do have an issue with the product at that price point. So it is valid. And I completely agree with your statement around the aldi comment. I don't agree with the statement to go solely by the cheapest. Hence why with my comment above I was surprised that an aldi comment was approved as a valid reason to neg.
My argument is that at this price point there are better coffees and have linked to an example. I don't think airjo beans are as great as the community say it is and am hoping to share my thoughts on taking risks out there to try other beans as in sure you will all find something that is even nicer for similar pricing.

            • -1

@maverickjohn: You are entirely welcome to your opinion about the coffee, and to leave a comment stating as such (and alternative options at this price point or cheaper), I just don't think it is a valid reason to neg, according to the voting guidelines. I just don't think it sets a good precedent when we can neg any product we personally don't like for clearly subjective reasons like taste.

Examples of an "issue with product" as defined in the guidelines is below, FYI.

              Appropriate uses of negative vote

              Cheaper price elsewhere

-Ideally, mention store, URL and price include shipping (if applicable).

              Issue with product (For example:)

-It does not work the way it should
              -It has been recalled

              Issue with retailer (For example:)

-Previous purchases were not received or the shipping time exceeded what was expected. Example 1 Example 2
-Issues arose which were not rectified in a satisfactory or timely manner.

I cannot see anywhere that it says something like "I prefer another product at a similar price point".

The overarching issue for me is that a neg vote implies that there is something "wrong" with the product or retailer, which is clearly not the case when you just don't like the flavour of it.

  • +5

Being transparent, I ordered the Sumatra (which has glowing reviews on ozbarg or those aren't fussed about coffee) but to have to say, the flavour is super weak.

  • +12

At this price I strongly recommend the Lime Blue SO Brazil deal instead.
IMO much nicer coffee and actually cheaper with the option of delayed shipping and 2x500g. Hate that Airjo charges significantly more for 2 x 500g bags than 1kg

    • -1

      Yep it's the business.

    • -3

Invalid neg vote according to the voting guidelines. The commenter doesn't have a genuine issue with the product, they just prefer another. As a thought exercise, if you flip this around, someone could neg the Lime Blue SO Brazil deal and say that the Airjo is worth the extra $ because in their opinion it tastes better and is worth the money. I think unless you're comparing apples to apples (same product) a neg isn't warranted, you can simply leave a comment to inform other OzB users of your opinion.

      • +5

My issue with the product is that it's really just not good coffee - especially for the price. I used to enjoy the Sumatra SO but they changed that to a blend which has gone up in price and down in quality.

Not sure what the specific neg guidelines are for coffee are, but the last blend I tried I had extremely inconsistent shots with bad flavours. I've found that even Aldi beans have had more consistent and better results.

maybe ad related to OzB due to always good upvote. I can pretty much say go for Aldi one for better quality

  • Shame you're not doing a deal on the 500g bags this time, might have to buy elsewhere :(

  • +2

I’m currently drinking the Thunderchild blend which is dark and strong. It’s really good. I brew it using my Bialetti Brikka pot.

  • +2

New deal? Same old deal 😉😉😉

  • Thanks OP! Perfect timing.
Really enjoyed the Pegasus blend this time, instead of our usual Sumatra.

  • Oh! A lima bean that looks just like the Leader!

  • I am a big fan of Thunderchild for cold brew. I just do a coarse ground and everyone who tries it asks where from.

  • +2

Gonna jump on the couple comments here already. Got 1kg of the Sumatra blend last month and I'm not a big fan of it. Before that I ordered a taster pack from single o (expensive, but really tasty) and downtown by Inglewood (cheaper, but still good). I'd recommend either of those two over airjo

  • +2

Bought Sumatra. I used it a couple of times. Similar experience. There isn't much flavor to it. It either tastes like water, or just tastes very bitter. Can't get any other flavor out of it. A bit disappointed. It might be the way I'm brewing it…. But the price was great and shipping was super fast.

  • +1

I think what's happening here is that people are recalling older reviews of Sumatra vs how it is now.

I found it to be excellent back when it was single origin. When it became a blend, it was still good for a while, but it's been progressively getting worse.

My latest batch from a couple of months back was super lacklustre. I think I'll take a break for a bit and try again in a few months.

    • That's possibly the case, as I said earlier I'm not going to shit on or neg this deal because it's a good deal, but a month ago people were largely in favour of Sumatra and from what I've tried it's very average.

They shipped it quickly, it just wasn't a good blend for me. I'll probably try Columbia, Thunderchild, or Stargazer in a deal in the future

Initially I didn't like the Sumatra blend. However, I wasn't liking a lot of the coffee I was getting with my Breville. Then I decided to follow one of the tutorials I found online on how to properly setup the coffee machine (grinder/extraction), I used scales to measure how much coffee was extracted over like 20 or 30 seconds (don't remember exactly the numbers) After I got it dialled in to exactly the recommended numbers, this became my coffee of choice. And vice versa, I used to like Lime Blue better, I have the Brazil mix from their previous deal, and if I brew it with the settings I have set for the Sumatra blend I do not get enough coffee extracted and it tastes like crap. I'm not saying this is true for everyone who doesn't like Sumatra, but it might be worth playing around with your coffee machine settings.
