Quite a good price on this M.2 NVMe SSD enclosure given the influx of SSD deals lately. I picked up this exact enclosure not too long ago and it's been working perfectly. It has a screwless design to make swapping SSDs over much easier and the aluminium case does well for heat dissipation.

This one supports NVMe M key, and B&M key SSDs only and does not support M.2 SATA SSDs. It has fast read/write speeds due to being USB 3.2 Gen2 (10Gbps) via USB-C.

        I have a universal one that looks EXACTLY like that one. Only it doesn't say KingSpec on it anywhere. And it has a USB cable on it with a tethered USB-A to USB-C converter so you can use it in either. So either someone has exactly copied KingSpec's product, or KingSpec is buying generic ones with KingSpec printed on them.

    M2 SSD enclosures used to be (and probably still are) around $40 AUD on Amazon, so anything under $20 is a bargain. I have only used mine once, to swap out a 1Tb with a 2TB.

            @capslock janitor: This is one of the daily deals. Guessing there were some additional quantality available earlier today at a slightly cheaper price. There are other enclosure deals at the moment (slightly more expensive). Another option is to wait as it appears these enclosures are also getting cheaper.

            The only annoyance is these daily deals are on items where the sellers put multiple options and the advertised on can be different to the one shown on the daily deals page. So you think you find a really great deal, but once you click on the deal, it is something else.

      Better design, better heat dissipation. These compact ones are cost effective and we generally don't use them for long period of time and with heavy usage. Samsung T5 has 3 years warranty so Samsung would opt for a safer design.

      You generally see larger enclosures for USB 3.2 gen 2x2 and Thunderbolt.

          I like this Kingspec one as it's super easy to get the SSD out and it makes direct contact with the aluminium case. For dual protocol I'm using the iDsonix more than the Orico as it includes a thermal pad and heatsink.

            As for enclosures, I have quite a few. Didn't manage to get one of these (wanted one), but I have another one that's somewhat similar in design. Prefer USB-C to USB-C cable over USB-C to USB-A cable because I do have Macs.

              @netsurfer: Oh I misread. I have the MiWhole CT100 going in a laptop right now and despite being DRAMless the pSLC cache is holding up well and it's consistently fast. Drops to around 600-700MB/s when the pSLC cache is exhausted. These are the specs and it's a Hikvision OEM drive.

              I have two of these Kingspec NVMe SSDs as cache in a NAS and they're working well too after a significant amount of TB written. No sign of them failing yet but considering I paid A$25 for 2x 256GB at the time I wouldn't be mad.

              I've been watching the various Fanxiang SSDs like this one. They're fast, confirmed to have DRAM cache and some of the models come with heatsinks already.

                      @CVonC: They're so similar it's really hard to say. I'd say whichever is cheapest since they're TLC, DRAMless, HMB and near identical read/write.

                          @CVonC: Unfortunately that's not true about DRAM cache. It's pSLC + HMB like the Kingspec. I can't find anything on the Kingspec but given they're a more reputable brand you'd expect them to be better.

        You absolutely NEED a heatsink with a gen 5 SSD operating at gen 5 speed, or else it'll throttle itself down when it overheats***. You probably should have one for a gen 4 SSD operating at full speed. But when an M.2 SSD is throttled down by having to operate through a USB connection, you don't need a heatsink.

        ***Tom's Hardware is reporting some gen 5 SSDs with Phison controllers are failing to throttle themselves and overheating and malfunctioning because they are designed to have heatsinks on them.

    AliExpress is ruining their business. Advertising in emails for the price of a product and you either go to the item and it's a different price, or they use cheeky range pricing.

    Example: SPECIAL !!! …… $15.98 backpack reduced by 95% !!!! …… click on link ….. It's a keyring and the backpack is $69.

    I almost stopped buying on eBay because of stuff like that, now AliExpress are doing the same thing. 😕
