  • While the double credits help, my local Kingpin has removed the VIP pricing. Not too sure if it’s like this nationwide with Timezone and Kingpin.

I also don’t know if I can see this as a deal going forward knowing we are paying the full price for each game now

  • This deal happens quite often this year, is their business doing ok?

I hope they won’t go out of business with many of us have hundred dollars loaded?

    • +2

They have jacked up the price, so it's not really double value.

      • Fair enough. Not ideal but better than them going out of business with us fully loaded.

      • +1

Yes, by a significant amount! I put on about $50 and it barely lasted 30minutes with a couple of kids. They're all just ticket machines, not really "games".

I maybe go there once a year with the family now… and that's only if we are walking passed it.

        Palace Arcade FTW.

This deal is literally like crack for them, they get huge boosts in load ups every time they do it, why wouldn't they? You won't be able to tell the state of a business unless you visit every single day at multiple stores in various locations (to measure activity) AND have access to their balance sheets. Biggest issue is people will come to expect the discounts more often so rarely anyone will pay full price at load ups, diminishing the value of their credits. They could just inflate the games and tickets to prize ratio though to compensate but it's all a balancing game in the end lol

TLDR: Business is likely to be doing fine, this is definitely not a fire sale liquidation event, or any indication of weakness at this point in time

    • +1

They're fine. There are new centres opening, being renovated, and games coming in all the time, and are backed by big money.

To address the main point though people having more credit means nothing when the average person doesnt win many tickets from it.

      • It also seems that they have been jacking up the major prize’s ticket cost. The iPhone 14 Pro have doubled cost in tickets since the last prize page update.

    • Well we have all given hundreds of dollars in advance so I don’t think they mind too much.

They literally got a round from VC to expand into Asia. Singapore just launched a massive timezone there.

      • +1

They’ve had Timezone in Singapore for ages though. I remember using my old gold Powercard (the flashing swipe) in Jurong. And no the balance didn’t carry over.

Waste of time if it doesn't include bowling.

  • I've never used this before - are the double credits valid only on the day of the offer (have to use it same day), or can I recharge on Saturday and use the double credits at a later date?

    • +4

Use when you want. They do expire in 12 months if you don't use your card at least once, then it resets and 12 months start again.

By the way, Costco is having the $50 gift card sold at $39.99.

Also asking about the venue free game:

The daily FREE games that come with Gold and Platinum status are applicable to the venue that you loaded up credit in. $1 per 92 days must be spent for the daily free Yellow card reader game to be credited to your Powercard.

Does this means I can load up at Kingpin to play the spin then load up small amount at my local venue to set my free game venue back?

    Thanks

    • Been to Costco many times but don't see where to buy this you need to go to counter?

      • +1

It’s usually at the gift cards section. Collect the Timezone cardboard thing (like A4 size) and bring to the counter for them to scan. If you’re in Sydney (Casula Crossroads), it’s located next to the books section.

        • Thanks gift card cardboard it is.

          • @neonlight: Haha, need to go the merchandise pick up to swap the cardboard for the actual gift card.

      • Thanks for your comment.

I never understood this kind of "deal".

I remember back when I was 8-14 I found these gaming floors to be immensely interesting, and playing for tickets to get PRIZES "omg, 2 c00l M8!" 🤩 …

But really… You are paying (sometimes a lot of) good money to play short games that reward you with tickets/points with which you buy cheap shit prizes… Right?

Or have I misunderstood the concept? I am honestly interested to see what the reason is that TimeZone offers make it to the daily OzBargain email so often, when, in my uneducated opinion, it is ALL BUT a bargain, handing over money for nothing…

I know that any experience-attraction could "technically" be classed the same, but in Disney World, Aquariums, theme parks or other pay-to-experience venues, the experience seems that much more substantial.

TimeZone seems to me being not only expensive, but also just plain sad. Being inside a noisy venue playing expensive games, many of which could be enjoyed at home.

Would anyone be able to explain the hype to me?

    • +2

      A few points:

      1. If you are actually good at the games you can win amounts of tickets that exceed the value spent. The prizes are a lot more high end now, you can redeem a LG fridge if you so choose.

      2. A lot of the games that make up timezone now can not be enjoyed at home.

      3. Simply you have double the money you would have spent.

It seems though really it's just not your thing.

        Hi Gehirn

Thanks for taking the time to respond :)

I think you're right, not my thing.

I'm also principally against playing games for profit / anything that resembles gambling so (1) takes TimeZone to "pokies" level in my mind.

        2) is a valid point. But I'm one of the people that don't even have time to use my Xbox properly. So my mind asks the question "why should I spend money playing different types of games when I don't even have time to play at home?".

        3) I see would make sense for an OzBargainer to which TimeZone is a thing.

Each to their own - Good thing we're not all the same. It would be so boring if it was so, hey?

Thanks, I can now put the matter to rest 😊

    • Playing them at home requires an Xbox, games, electricity etc. not free

    • Once you're old enough to stop enjoying timezone, you're old enough to stop enjoying timezone. Relax bro, it's for kids and ddr nerds

      • +1

        And Taiko nerds too!

    • +1

Timezone is really just for kids. I take my kids every so often as reward and have a blast with them. No consoles at home, or else they ask for it everyday lol

  • Neat reminder!

Just loaded up the $100 for the bonus $100 🙌

  • Have they updated their app. Log in screen is different and now I'm stuck on a screen that is "verifying your identity" after I entered a one off code. Not sure why it didn't ask for my password.
One way for me to use up the credit I currently have and not load up ever again.
