Glad I stocked up on the 20% codes at Coles then!

i won't use it to buy the membership. join a family group, pay 13.75/y/pp for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. much better than 20% off.

      • This!

      • Someone needs to pay for/start the family group though 😉

As a family group owner I get the best of both worlds - 20% discount gift cards and the points from renewing family subscription.

  • Gold points expire pretty quick

    • Gold Points are valid until the last day of the month 12 months after you earn them. (For example, points earned on September 26th 2023 would expire on September 30th 2024.)

I only ever have about a few cents or dollars worth because I'm constantly using them towards every new purchase (I buy a lot of small party games on sale)

  • I just bought a switch last week. Why do I need this membership? What are the benefits?

    • How are we supposed to visit each others’ Animal Planet Islands if you’re not online ? Haha or some quality Mario Kart Online or Splatoon

    • Basic membership gives you access to online features in games, as well as cloud saves and a catalogue of NES, SNES, and Gameboy games.

Expansion Pack includes that as well as Game Boy Advance, N64, and Sega Mega Drive games, as well as having some expansion DLC included like the Mario Kart 8 DLC, Animal Crossing DLC, and Splatoon 2 DLC.

    • A fair question, this.

Basically - if you wish to play online with friends and randoms - you need to get a Nintendo online subscription service.

Nintendo threw a couple of bonus features into the mix as well - such as: an ability to access select retro console games library in a Netflix format and an ability to backup game progress saves into their servers.

The more expensive tier of the subscription opens up access to more select retro console games library and an ability to access select paid DLC (such as Mario kart 8 deluxe’s) and an access to ‘special offers’ from time to time.

  • I don't understand how it works if I am in the middle of my renew cycle - it sill offers me to renew now paying full price… Is it going to add another year on top of what I have left from the last renewal?

Also is this offer valid if I pay with gist cards?

If you renew now it will just extend your current subscription (so if it expires on October 5th 2023 for example and you renew today, it will expire October 5th 2024).

As for gift cards yes it should work, it just adds funds to your balance, which you're always eligible for gold coins if something is paid from your balance.

  • I've got the family+ expansion that expires in January, doesn't look like you can extend online. Has anyone added a retail card to an existing account? Will it just extend it another year or not work at all because I have a current subscription.

Nevermind, answered my own question via Google. You can add up to 3 years for others wondering.

    • Does anyone know where to buy the retail card for the expansion pack family membership? I can find it on the US Amazon but it's not listed by any Australian retailers as far as I can see.

      • You're best off just getting eShop gift cards, especially when they're discounted, and loading them onto your account to purchase the membership.

Thanks for the reply. I stocked up on the discounted gift cards last week but my membership isn't due to expire until March so I can't extend online. Retail cards seem to be the only way to extend in this scenario but if they're not available then I guess I can't take up this offer.

@MCE: You can definitely extend, mine expires 26 October and I just extended mine.

Just click through to the subscription page and you'll get an option to "renew membership" or something and you just purchase it that way with your loaded funds.

            • @mangobango: Thanks again for the reply. When I got home I checked on the Switch itself and was able to extend my membership there.

Note for all of us eagerly refreshing the page to see the gold coin credits:

Offer valid once per Nintendo Account. Gold Points will be provided within approximately one month of each qualified purchase or renewal.

  • Pretty good, normally you don't earn gold points at all for NSO subs!

I'm just about due to renew so pleasing timing, but appreciate how it's not excluding existing subscribers.
