What Happens to All of The Returns Made to Bunnings?

It seems it's pretty easy to return anything at Bunnings. The packaging can be all ruined. You've probably tried to use something but it didn't work out or it sucked. Bunnings seem to take any return so long as you have a receipt and there's a barcode.

So what happens to all of these "used" returns?

Do these get resold?

Not sure why you're being downvoted because you are essentially correct.

I used to work there and yes if something was returned used it couldn't be put back on the shelf (yes, yes I know I'm sure we've all still experienced buying something that was a used return but that's a different story). If it was just opened packaging but the product itself was still unused, then yeah would go back onto the shelf.

So yes the used returns (which couldn't be sent back to the supplier), would attempt to be sold to staff for cheap, otherwise would get thrown out.

I've got things like $1k Eufy systems and perfectly fine tools like drill sets and lawnmowers that got used once and returned due to user error for peanuts.

And also just want to clarify, Bunnings is not supposed to return used items purely for change of mind for this exact reason, since the item will effectively have to be written off. Obviously for customer satisfaction reasons this isn't adhered to every time though.

@Shekster … as you stated yourself - you are an EX staff member.
Your views/opinions are based on your own past EXP.

Certainly don't hold true my local Bunnings at this present point in time - or most prob many other stores.
Grain of salt … Just saying.

[EDIT] : why do you even have the "Associated" - when you are an EX staff member.
think OZB needs to do their due diligence and remove that title from you.

        • Lmao idk how an informative comment (which wasn't even a reply to you) has managed to trigger you so much.

Ex-staff member with current friends and family that still work there…

I intentionally am not disclosing everything/specifics of what I've got but just the other day I bought another deco mesh network system (brand new, was opened by a customer and returned after they tried to set it up) for $10, but I guess that is too far in the past for you with my prehistoric experience…

Can confirm this does certainly hold true with all stores since there are literally official procedures which are followed when it comes to returns (and I did mention that obviously there's occasions where something used slips through the cracks and ends up back on the shelf). I don't understand how you're able to say that staff aren't buying used returns if you aren't even a staff member (past, present, and probably future)?…

And regarding the associated tag, that wasn't done by me, but I do apologise that it worked you up so much you felt the need to come back and edit your message just to say that.

I find taped up, previously returned boxes on the shelves all the time.

A couple of times I've ended up buying them because they were the only ones left in stock at the time. One of them ended up being actually broken, so was returned at least twice. Might have ended up back on the shelves again after me for all I know.

I found a bidette spray handle that was wet in the box on the shelf… I dumped out all the hand sanitizer bottles in the store into a tub and scrubbed till my skin was raw.

One staff member complained at me when returning a mower (that 'wasn't fit for purpose') that it'll go into the skip

Because that's exactly what would be the case, especially if it had anything to do with the customer purchasing the wrong product for their needs.

I find it very hard to believe a lawnmower wasn't fit for purpose… There's a difference between not being fit for purpose and not being fit for your purpose. The most common case tended to be people buying mowers designed for smaller/thinner grasses (ie. almost every 18V mower) and then complaining it wouldn't cut their buffalo lawn which was up to their shins…

      • even with EGO, I stiil need few passes to cut the buffalo.

Oh lovely! What happens after their holiday? /s

    • They become landfill.

  • They go back on the shelf most of the time. I've purchased seemingly new items before that were 100% used before I opened it up. For example a Mitre saw (power tool) that had stripped screws for assembly.

  • Depends on product, but for electrical items they normally end up as ewaste

  • Ozito becomes landfill.
