Don't these guys Jack prices for these refurb sales?

    • +1

The majority of eBay store jacks their prices prior to/during eBay Sales.

In this case, it has been $125 since 17th Jan, so doesn't appear to be jacked

    • Can't see it yet! Not all eBay sellers are the same!
      Not all heroes wear cape

        • This item seems to be at the same price, had it in my list for days.

          • -4

@abs898: Prob not worth price jacking under a certain threshold.

        • +2

Sorry, but how does that prove your claim of this specific seller jacking their price?

  • +1

    Jack has entered the chat

  • Does it come with the stand?

    • +1

Probably not, unless it is explicitly mentioned.

  • Does it come with a power cord ? the description doesn't mention that

    • +1

I messaged the seller and they said yes.

  • -5

Might want to refer to it as "refurb" in the title, it's correct but also more attractive than "used".

Also, is it a SATA SSD or M.2?

    • +2

it's correct but also more attractive than "used".

It's not up to OP to promote the product, especially through misleading descriptions. "Used" is accurate.

      • +2

Used implies it is sold as is, fresh from original owner, whereas refurb indicates there's been some degree of improvement made - cleaning, testing, upgrading software etc. which is distinctly different.

        • +3

Refurb is a vague and misleading term.

Some people in the past with similar deals have thought "refurb" meant the same quality as Apple refurbished, ie. basically as new quality with a new battery.

          cleaning, testing, upgrading software etc

For past deals of "refurbished" computers, people have received PCs that have had no cleaning done and no upgrading. No idea about this seller, but calling it used is much safer imo (and clearly the mods agree if they're the ones who added the tag).

          • @PainToad: Agree to disagree on semantics 😁

          • +1

@PainToad: Exactly, most "refurb" computers by these eBay stores are totally based on potluck.

Not matching specs? Covered in dust? Bad luck, these kangaroo stores probably buy these in bulk for cheap and then offload them without precariously checking each PC.

    • +1

Mod must have put Used, so I will leave it as is

      • All good, nice find.

  • RAM upgradable? I need one for a Palworld server.

    • +1

I upgraded my last one to 16 2x8

  • That's a lot of USB holes!

  • Whats the power consumption on this?

    • TDP 35W

      • Idle watts

        • +1

          4

          • @abs898: My personal exp with the Lenovo Tiny for this era is idling around 10-12w.

How did you manage to get it to 4w? Would love to learn how to keep the power consumption down

        • +2

for me run proxmox Idle at 4-5w

  • I've been interested in starting a Plex server to stream TV and movies. Are there any deals out there for something similar with transcoding?

    • This wont transcode?

      • +2

Depends on what codec you need. If you need transcoding, 8th gen is a sweet spot

        • +2

IGPU in the 8th gen is almost identical to 7th gen, so I'd say if you want to save a few bucks then go for 7th onwards. 6th gen lacking av1 and x265 iirc.
Also hardware transcoding need plex pass so factor that in your budget.

          • @kalel: Good to know!

            • @abs898: Yeah I have a 7th gen, and the iGPU is adequate for most 4k transcoding

          • +3

@kalel: Or you can use Jellyfin and transcode for free.

      • It will hardware transcode (quick sync is available way back to 2nd gen processors), but may not support the codecs you want.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Quick_Sync_Video shows what each subsequent version of quick sync supports. If the CPU doesn't support it, then Plex will drop back to software transcoding.

    • +1

Nvidia Shield Pro works as a decent Plex server but I tend to just use Stremio (with Add-ons) these days

      • Same here. While setting up and maintaining software to sail the seas was a fun thought experiment, stremio and similar is just too easy

      • Same, well at least until the fu$kw!ts sharing the idea all over Tiktok help to destroy the idea.

  • How are these for retro game emulation?

    • the IGPU sux. wouldnt bother for anything beyond 16bit consoles.

    • I use my dell refurb pc with gt1030 and can run emulation up to PS2 capability

  • +2

I'm using the same specs (dell optiplex usff) to host my proxmox hypervisor with about 25 docker container and my 3 websites. They are great!

  • How are these compared to the n95 and n100 nuc’s that are out there?

    • +1

From a technical point, those are much recent, but I have found Kamrui's quality to be a bit subpar. Some have had good experiences with them.
      Mine broke in two days.

I have a 6500T in Lenovo from the last deal, and it's been running strong; I have 2TB NVme and 2 SSDs with 2 external HDDs plugged in.

Again, it depends on your use case; I am only using it for a media server with no transcoding.

      • Can I ask you installed 2TB M2 2280 nvme SSD or 2TB mSata SSD? Cause from ThinkCentre M700 Tiny spec is below

'Some: SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" Wide, 5400 rpm or 7200 rpm
Some: 500GB (5400 rpm) Solid State Hybrid Drive (SSHD) /
with 8GB MLC NAND flash memory, SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide
Some: Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" Wide
Some: M.2 Solid State Drive (SSD) / SATA interface'

I have a spare 1TB nvme ssd, if the motherboard can support that will be great.

  • can i play palworld on these?

    • at 4k?

    • -1

no you cant because it doesn't come with a monitor

  • would love to make this into a router but i cant find anything to get 4 ethernet ports on it

    • -1

      4 USB ethernet ports?

    • +2

Get a switch and research router-on-a-stick - works great :)

      e.g. https://www.joe0.com/2019/11/16/converting-single-nic-mini-p…

    • +1

Have a look at The m720q or system that supports a PCIe riser. I think that would work better for your use case .

      • thanks! after i googled it found that the m720q would be good, maybe installing routeros from mikrotik or even opensense would be a good fit

        • CHR runs great on these boxes with plenty of room to run other VMs

    • Surely for a router you would just choose something like a https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003378019857.html

      • not if i want a vm to run chr and a btc node. But good recommendation. You can get 4 port pci riser for the m720q

  • +1

I'd recommend getting the HP equivalent if you can, as it has USB-C for this generation if that is important to you. They have come up at the same price point before. I use it as a media center with jellyfin and it transcodes 1080p stuff without issue.

  • -2

Hmmm the case isn't as pretty as the Hyte Y60..

  • +2

Is this better then n100 mini pcs?

    • -4

no the mini pcs are wayyyyyyyyyyyyy coooooooler, like if you use one of those you will become a kewl kid, seriously performance what are you smoking

      • ? I dont know what you mean.

        • -3

you would if you had a mini pc

  • "Great for Plex"

I thought you need 7 or 8 series to do plex well?

    • Depends on if/what you need to transcode and whether you have Plex pass.

I have this system running Ubuntu/Docker along with Plex and it's great. Decoding is all done by the clients. I'm not even sure if I've got transcoding enabled. Plex files are on a cheap NAS.

      • It's probably just a direct play.

      • Plex client is idiotic software which regularly insists on transcoding on perfectly adequate hardware that doesn't actually need transcoding.

        • I've had that issue once before a long time ago.

My current setup never runs into that issue and is pretty much rock solid (other than a few tweaks I'm too lazy to make).

Plex w/ pass is running on a m700 with the primary client being an AppleTV.

    • If you don't need to transcoder this works. Wouldn't hurt if you had read next line.

      • -1

It's plex, you're going to need the transcoder unfortunately.

        • +1

Nope, if you are doing a direct play locally, it doesn't. It all depends on what your receiver is, if it can decode the codec, you don't need transcoding.
I have been using it for months, have no Plex pass and TV shows direct play.

  • I missed out…. really needed this :(

    • +1

There acer at the same price. Link above

      • Thanks legend got one!

      • back in stock now

  • I have a few of these Lenovo Tinys
    1x M92P Tiny
    1x M700 Tiny
    1x M900 Tiny
1x P330 Tiny (with dedicated P620 graphics card)

With the exception of the P330 none of them are upgradable to Windows 11 and updates and support for Windows 10 ends in 2025.

There is ways around it but your PC could stop functioning at any moment due to Microsoft updates to defeat the "hacks", another option would be installing Linux instead.

As more people catch on that Windows 10 will no longer be supported and Windows 11 won't work units such as these (and 100s of others) they will become dirt cheap.

    • You can still clean install windows 11
