Just a general heads up that storage pricing is heading up. "This statement from Western Digital only points toward pricing getting worse before it gets better."

This has been spreading for a while but evidence shows otherwise

It has already gone up a lot. Could be had for less than $150 only 9 months ago

Is this too good for a backup gaming SSD? Or should I go for something cheaper?

    • Yep its a very good drive. Just bought two for my Nas. Buying now before the prices increase!

    • I've been buying cheap SSDs for my Media Server and elsewhere.

And I'm now regretting it. :-/

Cheap SSDs slow down quickly under load and it's annoying AF.

I did however recently purchase one of these WD SN850X drives to go in a Framework laptop, and I have zero regrets!

You'd never regret buying this drive. Cheap drives on the other hand… YMMV :-)

  • Do this one or a samsung 990?

    • +2

      Whichever is cheaper

  • What's the warranty like for WD if bought on Amazon US?

Thank you, and also OP. Added the T-Rex book and got it for a total of $223.94. You're a Gem!

  • I'm not sure, some people say that after a couple of months the prices of M.2 SSDs' should go down from the current high prices.
I missed the good prices late last year, and now looking (hoping for) a 2TB samsung 990 pro for $170 😢

For anyone looking to order mine shows: FREE International delivery 1 - 4 June.

I got burnt at black Friday where amazon UK had a 2 month lead time and then just cancelled when it go to the delivery date, no explanation.
    See this thread: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814614
Maybe still worth the risk, but if there is a similiar deal with an earlier delivery id get that.

Seems like they were waiting on stock to be delivered at a certain price, and then when they didnt get it they cancelled.

    • I'm getting a little worried that this may be the case. The book has already been shipped, but no movement on the SSD…
