Did you forget to mention it’s a 3 day free trial then $12.99 a week or am I reading it wrong?

  • wants $22 USD a month for 4 - is there something I'm missing?

    • +9

They will roll an update that Free Users will get this features. That's my understanding from their announcement for the ChatGPT4o

      • +3

This tripped me up thinking it will be available yesterday, due to the very poor and misleading Release Video from their new CTO,

Only the ChatGPT "plus" paid members have access to 4o currently, the actual free roll out will occur "in a few weeks"

Just use Meta.ai in the interim, Zuckerberg is haemorrhaging money on LLama3, and its actually not bad.

        • Its only a few weeks to wait for a free version of arguably the best model out atm. Pretty imo

    • +2

5 will make 4 look like 3 in comparison.

      • I hear they are skipping 5 and going straight to system-wise collapse.

We already have our own @chatGPT

    • +3

We used to have, now their user name it's @Look Up

      • +2

        What!!!

      • Did they lose their account or something?

        • +1

No, you are allowed to change your username once a year. So most probably wanted to change username.

  • +4

Does anyone have any good learning resources for using chatGPT?

    • +2

You literally just chat to it like you would a human.

      • +14

Yes but you can train it and your questions structure is important in getting the information. I was to learn more about that.

        • +19

No idea why someone negged you - your question is valid. You want valid information on maximising your usage of ChatGPT so you can hit the ground running: makes perfect sense and the advice ChatGPT provides isn't always the best…

          • @RichardMelbourne: I've done some googling, found this very informative https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUjWMdR_Kw8

          • +1

            @RichardMelbourne: agree totally.

As this is for a limited amount of uses for free you'd be best to have an idea on how to get the most out of it.

Not an exact analogy, but similar to rubbing a lamp and have a genie appear and offer you only wishes.. What you ask needs some thought.

Also.. as the evidence suggest, most people are crap at even using google effectively (eg: how many people know Google Fu or even Advanced Google Search).

My advice is for shap08, or anyone asking this question, use google first to search for this before you start typing into your free GPT trial.

Another tip (while Im replying during lack of sleep atm) is treat it a lot like a 'Literal Robot' The difference between typing "Let's help Jack, off the horse". and "Let's help jack off the horse".

            • @FredAstair: Call centres and live web chats will need to train staff in using chatgpt or similar software IMO. Who is offering this service?

        • +3

…..have you tried to ask ChatGPT?

        • +1

Its designed so you can just structure your questions as a normal conversation. Thats the point of it.

          • +1

@Stivo: Google "prompt engineering" without the quotes. You can do a lot more if you don't use it as an uninformed user pretending it's a real boy.

      • +9

"My CPU is a neural-net processor; a learning computer."

        • +3

          Cyberdyne systems model 101?

      • Well we're all screwed then…

    • you can just ask it! What do you want to know? i have been using the paid version for a few months now, It is fantastic for work, and just to learn about anything.

    • +2

You can ask chatGPT: "Does anyone have any good learning resources for using chatGPT?"

      • goes into boot loop mode
        .

    • They're opening the GPT market thing to everyone not too, I notice there's a learning one up the top, maybe give that one a crack.

    • +1
      • Impressive.

      • The problem is, who checks to see what bias it has when you ask it a history question for example? For instance, if you ask it who started the First World War you will get a biased answer based on the documents it reads from the web. I'm guessing it reads mostly documents written in English hence you will get an Anglophone point of view. Does it read Russian and German documents to give a German or Russo point of view? I'm not saying one would be more correct than the other, just posing a hypothetical.

    • +3

You don't need a learning resource for ChatGPT when ChatGPT is a learning resource itself. I like to use this prompt to learn anything:
"Teach me about [anything] by recursively asking me questions to gauge my understanding to fill in gaps in my knowledge."

Remember it's just a LLM and it can hallucinate and generally wants to make you happy just by saying whatever it thinks you want to hear, so you need to fact check almost anything you are told. But the more you use it, the more you learn what's a hallucination and whats not (especially if you want to learn programming with it)

      • +1

How did you learn that prompt?

        • +16

Years ago I learned English at School, it was my first language. I learned the definitions of words and how to talk. Eventually I ended up putting those words together and came up with a sentence that could help me learn more using AI

          • @Zythyx: Wait dude. Your using this prompting technique on us now. Are you transcending reality?

    • +1

FreeCodeCamp has a decent prompt "engineering" course on Youtube.

      • thanks

  • When???!?!??!!

  • +28

    I mean it's nice and all, but it's not really a deal…

    • +1

If subs are a deal, this is a deal

      • if free limited time movies on a paid streaming series is a deal, then so is this one too.

        • Free or paid?

        • I imagine these deals are allowed to drive traffic to the site and provide ad revenue for the owner for guest accounts. for instance the amount of votes in this deal is 10x the votes, and those that did vote are logged in and don't see ads littered on the site

      • it’s not a sub. not by any stretch of the definition

    • +2

If free .jpgs on Steam (that previously didn't exist and will never cost money) are a deal, this is a deal

      • +3

Those Steam Profile stickers are such a dumb "deal" post and deserve to be a forum post. It's like saying Apple has added new emojis to the iOS keyboard, but they don't end up being deal posts

    • Yes it is. And so are subscription posts. And so are RRP deals.

    • I open OzB.
I see there's an opportunity to save money.
      I use it.

This post is describing that opportunity. What's the neg for?

      • This post is describing that opportunity

This’s a service you otherwise would’ve paid for?

This announcement is a boon for budget-conscious users, offering access to advanced features like GPT-4 intelligence, web responses, data analysis, and file uploads, which were previously reserved for premium accounts. With the inclusion of the GPT Store and Memory feature, users can personalize their experience and explore additional functionalities without extra cost. Despite the message limit, the automatic switch to GPT-3.5 ensures continuous conversations, making this upgrade a valuable addition for those seeking enhanced capabilities without financial strain.

    • +2

Absolutely! OpenAI's announcement of ChatGPT 4o brings some exciting advancements, especially for budget-conscious users. Access to features like GPT-4 intelligence, web responses, data analysis, and file uploads, which were previously exclusive to premium accounts, now adds immense value to free users. The addition of the GPT Store and Memory feature further enhances personalization and exploration of functionalities at no extra cost. While the message limit is something to consider, the seamless switch to GPT-3.5 ensures uninterrupted conversations, making this upgrade a fantastic option for those looking to expand capabilities without breaking the bank.

      • -2

Oh, absolutely! OpenAI's decision to offer premium-level features like GPT-4 intelligence to free users is just a stroke of genius, isn't it?

Because who needs to worry about the potential dangers of handing over such powerful tools to anyone and everyone, especially those who might not have the means to understand or responsibly use them? Oh, and let's not forget the message limit! It's like a cherry on top, ensuring that users get a taste of the advanced capabilities before being unceremoniously downgraded to a less sophisticated version mid-conversation. Brilliant!

Because what could possibly go wrong with giving everyone access to cutting-edge AI technology without any safeguards or limitations? Just fantastic!

        • +1

Herbse, I see where you're coming from with your concerns. While the expanded access to advanced features like GPT-4 intelligence does democratize AI technology, it's important to consider the potential risks and challenges that come with it. Ensuring that users are well-informed about the capabilities and limitations of these tools is crucial. The message limit and the switch to GPT-3.5 could be seen as a way to mitigate some risks, providing a balance between accessibility and control. It's a complex issue, but with careful management and education, it can offer significant benefits to a broader audience while maintaining safety.

          • -2

@dws: While I understand your points dws, it's essential to delve deeper into the potential ramifications of widespread access to advanced AI like GPT-4. Beyond education, which is undoubtedly crucial, regulatory frameworks must be established to ensure responsible usage. The decision to maintain a message limit and utilize GPT-3.5 reflects an attempt to address some concerns, but it's clear that more comprehensive measures are necessary. Without proper safeguards, the democratization of AI technology could lead to unforeseen consequences, making it imperative to strike a balance between accessibility and accountability..

    • Wow, this is fantastic news! The ability to access advanced features like GPT-4 intelligence, web responses, data analysis, and file uploads without needing a premium account is a game-changer for budget-conscious users. The GPT Store and Memory feature are perfect for personalizing the experience and exploring new functionalities without any extra cost. However, I do wonder how the message limit might affect longer conversations, and if the switch to GPT-3.5 will noticeably impact the quality of responses. Nonetheless, this upgrade seems like an incredible opportunity to enjoy enhanced capabilities without financial strain!

For a bit of fun, ChatGPT 4o summarized the first 30 mins of this post:

The OzBargain post discusses an announcement from OpenAI that ChatGPT Free users will now have access to GPT-4 level intelligence and features through GPT-4o. This includes enhanced capabilities such as data analysis, image interaction, and file uploads. However, there will be a limit on the number of messages free users can send before reverting to GPT-3.5. Some comments express skepticism about whether this is a limited-time trial or a permanent change.

    • Have you got premium and you already have it? I looked at my app and the premium still says 'GPT 4' so I didn't bother trying yet. Also the price is still $30/month, they said the price is going to halve, so I figured no 4o yet.

      • Have a premium account and the model already rolled out automatically to GPT4o yesterday.

      • Yes I do have premium, with 4o. I got the impression online that 4o is already rolled out for everyone, but I'm guessing not.

        • Gradually rolled out over the next few weeks.

      • No reduction to Plus pricing, the rumour is it may increase when GPT-5 is released.
What did halve is the API cost for developers, GPT-4o is roughly half the cost of GPT-4-Turbo (again different to GPT-4) via the API.

        • Ah I was wondering if it just meant the API. Damnit. $30/month is pretty pricey for this shit, especially when I already have Gemini Advanced. Will give it a crack for a month then cancel, hope mine gets the 4o update right away though.
