      I was in Rome last October - 30 degrees in the middle of the day 4 days running. Glad I was not their earlier.

    July/August are thoroughly overrated times to visit Europe, particularly the more southern countries. Sept/Oct are where it’s at!

      July and August are great months to visit Europe, so much happening everywhere you go. If you're not looking to visit particular events then I'd agree Sep/Oct should see less heat and crowds. These prices are a great deal especially in peak season. (less than half what I paid for 2022 trip July/Aug)

      You will have a better choice of carriers (and likely better prices) flying out of one of the Paris airports. Assuming you will want to stop a few days in Paris too.

          Choose Rome then. I gave you my preference.

          But if you're just using those cities as a transfer point, you need to research several things.

      If flying into Paris you will be flying into CDG and be aware that many flights to Portugal leave from Orly, an hour away but there are some from CDG and are usually more expensive.

    It was the cheapest for me book Sydney - Stockholm, Copenhagen - Sydney and I was surprised that Air China allow multi-city bookings without any penalty.

            @Leuke: Check various dates… The tickets I bought are no longer available at that price, but I managed to find similar for:
            8 Aug SYD -> ARN;
            3 Sep CPH -> SYD
            Total $956.24

    insanely cheap…

    however Air China's plane and service are quite mediocre. Can't survive their 3-4-3 seats for a 10 hours flight myself.
