    Cheaper at Amazon AU

    • Now this's the type of comment I'm paying my NBN for!

      • you're still paying for your NBN?

        • Like a peasant I am yes.

    • Thanks. As per above cheaper at amazon.

  • Can iphone users use this?

    • +1

for iPhone, I got these when they were at $22.50 deal not long ago :

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CJDX96MX?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_p…

work perfectly and its absolute ridiculous bargain at less than $5 per tag with 60m range and long battery life.

been testing it over the last 4-5 days and works perfectly with devices all over Sydney.

  • Why is gen 2 bigger than gen 1?

    • +4

      because 2 contains 1 and 1

    • I am not sure they are bigger. They are just a different shape.

  • In nations like Japan where iPhone has much higher usage than Android/Samsung, are these things useless for tracking suitcases?

    • +2

I believe the Samsung network has greater coverage worldwide. You don't need everyone to have a samsung phone for it to work, just coverage in that area. For example, if there are 10 people around the luggage area only one needs a Samsung for the signal to be received.

I would say Samsung is popular in Japan also and it would work fine there, particularly given the population density.

      • Samsung you need to opt into which if I had to guess barely anyone would without owning a tag

        • First I have heard of that. Mine has worked in remote third world countries and the like.

      • +1

Likely more popular all over Asia and all of southern hemisphere, imo.

    • Can't really about other countries. But in Australia, It's samsung

    • I've got an airtag and not convinced either is good

      • tracking entirely depends on if the workers have the device. Remember you're comparing Samsung (not android) in terms of market share
      • once it gets packed in the airline freight box, signal is blocked
      • when i lost a bag, the airline texted me before I even landed.
      • most of the time it doesn't tell me if it's on the plane. At best, nearby

These also come in a 4-pack that regularly goes on sale for around $100, which makes it a lot cheaper.

  • How's this compared to the Chipolo that uses the find my device network on Android?

  • Cheaper elsewhere as RichardL has pointed out. If buying multiple wait for the 4 pack to come down to ~$100

  • +1

Honestly with Googles find my device network just been replaced, I would be going that way over Tile or Samsung Smart tags.

Googles version is just like Apples, every Android phone will be able to report the location of the tracker. Rather than just Samsung ones.

I've got chipolo devices on order from over a year ago!!

But also looking forward to the endless aliexpress knockoff ones too that will be out shortly, just like they did for the airtags.
