      Really?! 3.9/10 IMDb lol

    • +1

Top tier movie. Totally worth buying on bluray.

Physical media. Cannot be revoked by the stroke of a digital pen…. Priceless.

    • +6

Same goes for digital media stored on PC.

      • +5

        DRM-free digital media*

I know that’s what you meant, but I thought I’d say it anyway.

  • +10

Damn, a month too early to pick up Dune part two.

  • +1

I was looking at The Last of Us the other day at $60 but thought I'd rather wait for a sale. Now I have to find something good worth $60 to go with it.

    • +2

It's always harder to find stuff to pair with the more expensive items. You into the Ocean's Trilogy? It's a new release with a close-ish price point.

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/oceans-trilogy-2024-4k-ul…

      • Oceans is an option, same with Hunger Games I suppose (never saw the last one) but I'm thinking House of the Dragon S1 might be the play. I'll probably be picking up S2 & S3 of The Flight Attendant as S1 wasn't bad (DVD only unfortunately).

        • S3 of The Flight Attendant?

Anyway, it will only be Blu Ray and 4K in this deal, at least it was last year. You might have to wait a few months for the B1G1F on all TV seasons deal which includes DVD in it.

          • @sparkles: Well it looks like S3 hasn't been made so that and DVDs not being included means that series is off the buying list for now. Thanks for setting me straight. Enough about me. What are you looking at in the sale that you can actually buy?

      • Agreed. I’m having a bit of difficulty finding something similar in price that I want to pair with the Ocean’s trilogy.

        • I bought 2 copy's of The godfather trilogy on 4K a few sales back and just sold the second copy on gumtree because I couldn't find anything in the same price range I was after

    • It was $37.87 in March thru amazon

      • I guess $30 is ATL then?

  • +21

Definitely ask the cashier to do separate transactions to group same priced items together if you’re buying a stack. Otherwise you will only end up getting a bunch of lowest priced titles free.

  • +1

Waiting for 20% off, so I can stack :-)

    • How does this work? When do they normally offer it?

      • +1

Sometime, it comes out at the same time.

  • +1

    Oppy 4K lads, let's go

    • Barbenheimer

    • -2

Already on amazon prime, not worth it

      • +1

        Lol. Wrong game here

  • +2

Godzilla Minus One 4K not out yet?
    Not much else worth getting…

    • +1

Only in Japan, without English subs :(

      • That no good….its an awesome movie to add to the collection.
Guess I get MI Dead Reckoning.
Avatar: The Way of Water is still expensive given it has been out for a while.

  • +6

I haven’t fully put together a list of what I want to buy yet, but so far there isn’t that many titles I’m intending to purchase in this years B1G1F sale, which is a first for me… Not many titles have been released locally over the last 12 months that I’m interested in. I’ll definitely pick up on 4K The Departed, Contagion, and the Ocean’s trilogy, something new to watch on the 77” Sony a95L QD-OLED is always welcome.

    • +3

I have to reluctantly agree as someone who's been waiting for this all year. Disney pulling out of physical media in Australia hasn't helped, but there has also been a dearth of releases. Luckily Imprint has gone a little wild on boxsets recently, however, they're not in stock at JB widely. It looks like I won't be buying as much this year.

    • Wanted the 4K Abyss - but no sign here, its banned in the UK because of a distressed rat, and the US import is silly price.

      • $50-60 looks to be the standard price for most imports these days, unless you’re lucky and there’s a sale. Reminds me of the early days of DVD.

  • Perth: anyone keen to split GoT full series?

    • +5

Can people still rewatch these knowing it ends badly?

      • You can still enjoy the journey even if the destination is awful.

      • Just started to watch it from the start again, as i have yet to watch it in 4K and I also have an OLED TV now, 83" C2 in all its glory.

Have to say, it definitely looks bettet than i remember the 1080p Blu ray discs i have looking!

        • +1

I don’t know what graphics I’m looking for, I just know the story that built up didn’t make sense in the end. So the journey won’t be the same

      • Yeah just stop watching after season 4

  • The White Lotus (HBO)

    • Thought it was one of the shops in Kingsford.

  • +1

Haven’t bought any movie/show for a long time, the last time I did the disk came with a code to download digital version on iTunes, wonder if still the same?

    • +1

The service shut down in Australia, so they won’t work.

  • +2

Nice! Hoping to pick up Interstellar & Lost in Translation.

    Cheers OP!

  • Curious as I always streamed content. How much better is a 4k disc? I have a ps5 and home theatre with a decent tv.

    • +1

A lot better. Basically any thread here usually ends up in this argument. I'm usually fine with 4K streaming or sailing the high seas for 4K HDR files but every time I chuck a disc in the movie looks spectacular.

    • +2

The audio is day/night. No comparison.
Video is better on disc, but pending the streaming service I wouldnt say it's as big as the audio. It's definitely still better but depends on your TV too.

    • +4

It's certainly noticeable if you have a half decent setup, both for video and audio.
The ability to have a copy to hand that won't go away on the whims of a streaming service is also a major benefit.

      • How about vs remux quality from 7 seas?

        • +1

I mean if you're basically downloading a disc rip then it will be the same
These files are enormous though, most people aren't torrenting at this quality. Triple layer 4Ks can get up to 100GB, which is going to be more than 10x the equivalent Netflix stream

          • @GSDan: Whats triple layer 4k?
I havent seen remux quality file size in 100GB.
I've seen up to 80ish GB, but looks like on average around 60-70GB.
But yes they are big files..

            • @OzFrugie: Discs with three layers, used for longer movies

    • +2

I work at JB and can confirm while the sale doesn't officially start until tomorrow, if you come in very late in the day you can get a jump on most promos like this. We start putting up the flyers after 5pm in my store.

      • That’s a little secret that I’ve been aware of and doing for years. I just finished work at 4:30pm, and I’m on my way to my local JB store now to pick up what I want this afternoon if that sale goes live at around 5pm like usual.

  • -6

    Stremio makes this deal obsolete

  • Any idea when it goes live online?

    • That's what I'm wondering aswell

      • I reckon it will go live after the stores close today

    • Maybe after Perth stores close?

  • +11

Here is photo I just took in store at a JB HiFi location where they have put up the signs advertising the 2024 B1G1F Blu-ray/4K promo - https://ibb.co/qgTVgp7

    • Was there any big collectors sets much, feels like it’s mostly cleared out , since nothing much is coming into Australia anymore it feels..

  • no sale yet

  • +1

    It's live for me.

  • +1

    It’s live !

  • I can only see the sale on Blu-ray & 4K Bluray.
Is it going to be applied to DVDs too?

    • No it's only for Blu-ray & 4K

      • Are there any plans to offer it for DVDs?

        • I've personally never seen a buy one get one promo for regular dvds. We do sometimes do it for single seasons of tv shows, but that promo was earlier in the year. Based on my experience I'm going to say no.

  • +1

    Thanks OP bought 8

  • Wait so this excludes collections.

LOTR, Hobbit, Jurassic Park, Back to the Future etc aren't part of this sale.

    Edit* nvm it's appearing now.

  • +2

Website doesn’t advance beyond “continue to payment” for me. On iPad, android and pc. Which is a tad annoying.

  • +2

I actually bought a lot more than I thought I would but it only happens once a year. They'll probably also do a 20% off during this but then many things do go out of stock, so it's a risk waiting. It's like Christmas if you collect physical media, heh.

Got lots of Imprint Collection discs and picked up all the recent blockbusters, Oppenheimer, Dead Reckoning, Wonka and such. I'm happy!

  • +1

Any idea if theres going to be a 20% off promo as well during the period this sale is on? Almost certain last year they lined up at one point

    • +2

I reckon there's going to be a "Wicked Wednesday" sale on the 29th which is the last day of the B1G1F sale so probably then.

Looking at the trading hours for the coming week Wednesday's opening hours are 9am-9pm which is sort of a clue there.

      • It will likely be a percentage off code that is offered on Wicked Wednesday, last year it was a 10% off code on the last day of the B1G1F BD/4K sale. The problem is the code can only be used once, therefore it’ll hardly amount to a significant discount if you purchase only 2 titles of the same price in a single transaction, you’ll have to pair quite a number of titles together that are the same price for the code to amount to a substantial discount… Otherwise you will be paying for the highest price titles if you pair a larger number of titles together that are priced differently, and the cheapest ones will be free, so even with the discount code you could end up paying more. There will definitely be some people who might try to cheat JB HiFi by having 5-10 plus email addresses so that they receive multiple discounts codes to get around this, but I certainly don’t condone this.

There’s also the issue of stock of what you want being sold out by waiting until Wicked Wednesday (which is the last day of the B1G1F sale) to make your BD/4K purchases so that you can get the additional discount benefit, because a lot of people have already cleared JB HiFi out of the most popular titles during the previous 6 days of the sale.

        • yeah was trying to decide whether or not to cancel my order of 6 4ks but not sure it's worth it to maybe save $10 and maybe have half the shit I want be sold out and I might have to pay higher shipping as more stock is sold because it would have to be shipped from more stores as it would be on the last day of the sale I might order a couple more movies during the extra 10% off sale though

  • Any good 4k music concerts has anyone found ?

  • +3

Ordered 6 movies might get more later idk

    The Departed 4k
    The Green Mile 4k
    Joker 4k
    Dr Strangelove 4k
    Donnie Darko 4k
    Casablanca 4k

    • +1

      Ordered 6 more movies

      Wonka 4k
      Barbie 4k
      Top Gun Maverick 4k
Star Trek Wrath of Khan 4k
      Pulp Fiction 4k
      1917 4k

      • And ordered my final 2

        Singin In The Rain 4k
        Beetlejuice 4k

  • Thanks. Picked up the complete big bang theory box set and got breaking bad complete set for free.

    • Breaking bad was 80 something dollars in the past, stupid price rise! I was tempted by better call saul around that price but never watched so not sure if worth collecting?

      • +1

I'm watching Better Call Saul right now, after Breaking Bad - thoroughly enjoying it, but a very different show.

        • Purchased! But forgot about the deal ending so missed a few movies I wanted. Also didn't get the birthday $10 perks which would have helped. Now to find time to watch it!
