Looking for a P&S upgrade camera

Hi guys,

There seem to be quite a few camera enthusiasts on here, so I thought I'd get your thoughts.

I'm looking at upgrading from my P&S and I rather like the idea of a Micro 4/3 camera. But I could easily be convinced away.

I'm currently looking at:

  1. Olympus PEN E-P2
  2. Olympus PEN E-P3
  3. Panasonic Lumix DMC-G5 (I wish I'd gone for this deal).
  4. Samsung NX20 (I know this isn't a MFT, but it's a mirrorless competitor it seems)

I'm pushing towards the DMC-G5, but can't find any decent deals for it anywhere. I might just wait and hope for another deal like above.

I'm really just starting to look, and theses all seem to be around the same price range (I think…), although I find it a bit hard to decipher price comparisons with body, lens kits etc.

Looking for any recommendations, experience, bargains, etc for these cameras, or similar priced quality cameras.

Cheers

Guess there aren't as many camera enthusiasts as I'd hoped on here…

  • I got the Nikon J1. Very happy with it. Fastest auto focus out of all of the mirrorless cameras. Only mirrorless camera that has true silent auto focus(no noise during video). 1080P 30FPS. Cheapest of them all too.

  • I bought my son a Sony NEX 3. great camera, fantastic photos. I see on ozbargain that you can get it for under $399 from Teds.
Great big sensor, unlike the Nikon, and superb low light photos.

    • If you want big sensor and you don't need continuous silent AF in video, definitely go with the Sony.

Anyone know if the EOS-M is any good?

  • E-PM2 is what I would go for, around the same market price as the EP3 but with the sensor from the OM-D. The trade off its that you have less physical control but it still have most of the feature on the EP-3 including the touch screen.

  • Ended up going for a NEX-F3 after reading a buttload of reviews. Very pleased with my purchase, now to find some good deals on lenses. :)
