Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones - $509 (RRP $599) Delivered @ David Jones

210

Had my eyes on these since they were released a couple of months ago and it's the first time I've seen it on sale. Rather good discount too which puts it in the Sony XM5 discounted price range. Blue and Grey versions also on sale for the same price.

From reviews, they appear to have better soundstage than the XM5 but noise cancelling isn't as good. Either way, it will be a decent upgrade from my first gen Sony 1000x.

Don't forget 2% Cashreward cashback.

  • How are they compared with Momentum 3?

    • I I had the original Momentum (wired) a few years ago and didn't really like the sound (personal preference), so I never really considered the M3 or M4's when I was looking around recently.

    • +1

Crushes them, px7s2 has better sound quality, better carry case, lighter, better battery life.

The only reason I would stick with the momentum 3 is if you love their bass and Sennheiser sound signature.

  • +1

Also, looks like DJs is clearing out the PX7 version 1s (including the Carbon edition) at a substantial discount. Works out to be $333.90 once added to cart.

Not a bad option for those that don't want to splurge on the latest and greatest. Although it could be argued XM4s may be a better option at this price range (when the next deal comes along).

    • I saw that too, but didn't pull the trigger at the end. One of my workmates mentioned that the PX7 ANC isn't stellar at all for that price range. But he did say that the audio quality is very good.

      • Practically you will hardly notice the difference, what you will notice is the px7s stronger clamping force. So a def no go if you have a large head.

        • anyway to reduce the clamping force? i get headaches and have a large head :( but these are a good price.

What about getting different earmuffs say from brainwayvze?

      • Yep if the only thing you value is ANC then you need to go with the mainstream consumer cans like XM5/QC45 etc. These are more if you are after certain sound signatures compared to the heavily artificial/bassy sounds from the XM5/QC45.

    • Depends what you value? Sound and build quality vs ANC and portability.

    • Good price for the Version 1, i bought them at $385 a while back. B&W are my favourite house sound for headphones not requiring amplification. Regarding ANC, the V1 has 3-setting for ANC so you can scale it up a fair bit if you like.

    • yep, picked those up (carbon version) few weeks back from the previous deal

absolutely love mine. best headphones ever

  • Well, I am not audiophiler but how are these compared to Sony's xm5 or Bose's qc45?

    • +3

Much better sound than both, not as good noise cancelling as xm5. Better build quality than both. Less portable than qc45.

Edit - I'm no audiophile but even I could hear a world of difference between the xm4/QC/px7. The PX7 are much better imo. Haven't used xm5s.

    • +1

The PX7 S2 support aptx and aptx HD, which is a higher bit-rate bluetooth codec compared to the standard SBC, so they should sound better than both the XM5s and QC45s (assuming you have high-res files and a source that can output in aptx). The XM5 do support LDAC, but you'll need either a Sony DAP that supports this codec or enabling this via Android developer mode.

  • shame it doesn't have charging stand, $500 pair of wireless headphone and you still have to plug cable in.

    • As opposed to airpods max or beoplay h9s that don't even come with a case or cables?

$500 for a brand I’ve literally never seen recommended in the audiophile community

    • +2

Agree - the Sony xm5 and Sennheiser Momentum 4 seem to unanimously be the best pick by the community and critics a like for this top of the range bracket. Former for the best ANC and latter for the better sound stage but still great ANC. Not sure why one would consider this relatively unknown brand for the same price bracket (would honestly like to know though)

    • +2

B&W only make some of the best speakers ever made… So much so that it's all they use in Abbey Road Studios.

Their headphones used to get more coverage when they were wired, but are talked about significantly less since they moved to bluetooth and ANC (for obvious bitrate/fidelity reasons).

My current desktop combo is with a Chord Mojo2 and and Focal Celestee. However my go to for travel is the B&W PX7. I much prefer their sound signature over Sony, Sennheiser and Bose for ANC bluetooth headphones. The only others I would consider are B&O, but they can run even more expensive.

    • +2

These comments about never having heard of B&W/calling it an unknown brand are astonishing. B&W have been the only brand I've seen in a lot of professional sound studios.. I don't hang out in audiophile communities though 🤷

    • Then you need to go and read more instead of wasting your time on Ozbargain.

  • Good deal. B&W just launched the PX8 but it’s even more expensive than they had announced.

    • Wow! I knew they were going to be expensive, but not THIS expensive! Can already see one Aussie retailer listing this for $1149. Almost double the price of PX7 S2!

  • There's an extra 10% off, brings the grey colour px7s2 down to $458.
