Best Comprehensive Car Insurance - Green P's

I'm looking for Comprehensive Car Insurance, I have a MG3 2019 model.

I've just got my licence at 26 now on my Green P's. Looking for the cheapest and best option currently. The best options I've seen so far are around $230 - $250 per month, any help would be highly appreciated.

Comprehensive car insurance varies based on your perceived risk profile to the insurer/underwriter. There's no set amount for others to share with you. You need to do the legwork getting quotes for YOUR particular case and read the PDS to see what's covered or not..

    • I've done the leg work, even with increasing my excess to 1200 the cheapest I can get is 250 ish per month

        I've done the leg work

        keep looking.

I'm paying $450 per year and $700 excess.

        • Thanks

        • But ! Years driving (records), no claim bonus , car insured etc.
This will not be anyone else's experience.

        • Are you a P plater JV?

Well then there you go. No one else's experience is relevant to your quotes. Especially as a 'new' driver.

Also, if you ever ask for "best" something, you need to define your criteria for it. Best what? Price? Coverage? Excess? Windscreen? Claims process?

So you've tried AAMI, AHM, Allianz, ANZ, Australia Post, Bank of Melbourne, Bingle, Budget Direct, CBA, CGU, Coles. GIO, Huddle, ING, Kogan, NAB, RACV, Real, Stella, Suncorp, Qantas, QBE, ROLLiN', Virgin Money, Westpac, Woolworths & Youi?

      • I've done the leg work, even with increasing my excess to 1200 the cheapest I can get is 250 ish per month

$3k per year for MG3 2019 model? Damn, are you a 17y old with a car accident?

      • Yeah and it probably won't get much better than that, you are in one of the upper categories for risk when it comes to driving.

  • Do you live in a high-risk suburb?

I did a quote for your car based on my age (30s, had Ps since 18m parked in the garage and used a few days a week for work/study with 20,000kms a year) in 3820 and AAMI was $85 a month. So what you are providing must be risky to the insurer. Things like maye being parked on the street in a high risk suburb.

I recently moved from AAMI to RACV and I have a 2021 Ford Ranger, one of the most popular cars on the road and it still costs me $110 ish a month.

  • sadly as an inexperienced driver thats probably the best you can do with a non-budget insurer.
Will also depend on the suburb in which you live, if car is garaged/street parked
Paying annually might work out cheaper depending on the insurer.

  • Give me a detailed profile description for your situation and I'll look at it for you with a few budget insurers

Edit: I got a quote for $1200 a year for comprehensive insurance with Bingle. (Details used were 2019 White MG3, driving 15k kms a year, parked in 3018 VIC, 26 yo male driver who got his first license in 2024)

Pick any insurer within your budget. Maybe go with AAMI or RACV, they're neither amazing nor garbage. You're able to cancel and move on at any time, insurers will return unused funds. Also paying yearly lowers the cost if it's an option for you. Tip is to never just pay the renewal amount without getting quotes from other insurers.

  • Do you want "best" or "cheapest"?
