    Is the reverse camera wireless?

    • No it is not wireless.

  • Essentially the same thing

    https://automotivesuperstore.com.au/aerpro-am7cpaam

Or buy from China for under $100

    • Like this one for $144 ? Guessing the quality is going to be pretty questionable though

  • +5

better still just got a 10.2" one with reverse camera & cabling, wireless carplay etc for a 1/4 of the price from a recommendation on here, excellent piece of kit no lag & way exceeded my expectations arrived in 10 days too https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006609528654.html?spm=a2… just select the option for reverse camera it's like 40c more

    • Awesome, are you using that exact one? I saw many variations on very similar looking devices and couldn't pick which to get.

      • +2

yep that's the exact store/link. I installed over the weekend and for the money it's impressive, it works straight out of the box but there are codes to change some of the factory settings in more detail if you want, great functionality with SD card, USB, aux etc credit to @bdl on here for the recommendation I just find it cheaper on another store on aliexpress with the reverse camera option being a no brainer for 40c

        • Sounds great, is there much of a lag starting up with the car / connecting to your phone? That was one of my main concerns from reviews on some of them.

          • +1

@frogduck: I fully expected that but it's quick & once connected there's no lag in the screen controls/software, it's way better than I expected especially for the price

        • Are the codes provided?

          • @sasangeleus: I think they provide 2 codes one is to change the UI (there's two options) I've found others posted by google searching but haven't tried yet, you can access the factory settings it's just I haven't yet worked out what they all are for, tbh other than wanting to move carplay menu to the right side there's not much I haven't been able to get it to do, tonight I'll try & change the background & start up screen but these are 'nice to haves'

    • Does it transmit the audio through an aux cable or only through FM?

      • +1

4 options, bluetooth, aux, FM transmit & inbuilt speaker, I use aux & sound is great it also has an equaliser & presets like rock, jazz, pop so you can adjust everything

        • sounds good. Thanks

    • How's the reverse camera quality?

    • For $68, going to get this for the old man, keeps getting fined for touching his phone. Some people.

    • When connected to your phone does it force phone calls to go through it? Bear with me as I try to explain. I have a different cheap Chinese one of these and I want to only connect to it for android auto but the phone calls to go through my cars Bluetooth. But each time I go into my Bluetooth settings for the screen and turn off phone calls, 10 seconds later it reconnects and turns the phone calls back on.

Want to use my cars Bluetooth for calls as the microphone is better.

      • no idea as I don't use android auto, maybe ask the seller, I asked if it was compatible with the latest ios as I had read some weren't, they responded quickly that it was & I can confirm that

thinking about what you are trying to do you can't have 2 bluetooth connections running at the same time so it wont work, the only way what you are trying to achieve may be possible is to have android auto connected through usb & then the phones bluetooth to the car & somehow in android settings setup this way if possible but I suspect it's not possible

        • I have a Supercheap nanoconnect brand screen (that I received as a gift) in my pajero and with that I can have wireless android auto connected and the Bluetooth media and phone connected to the pajero at the same time.

It's just my Chinese one that keeps forcing the Bluetooth phone call option to reconnect to the screen.

Might have to just buy the Supercheap one again since I know it does what I want it to.

  • IIRC there was a post not long ago mentioned that if the screen is not built-in, it is illegal.

which following discussion turned out to be scare mongering this was the quote in regard to the NSW legislation
“You must not drive with a digital screen on if you can see it, or it could distract another driver, unless you’re using it as a driver's aid. In this case, it must be in a holder fixed to the vehicle or built into the vehicle.”

So it’s fine if it’s displaying map information, like Google maps / waze etc it just can't be used for entertainment purposes I assume like video playback. Anyway mine is essentially built in I spent the weekend with the dash apart & mounting it, regardless I would have no issue using it & not be concerned about the cops. There are way bigger screens on newer vehicles sure they are standard but WTF

Not legal advice, but according to OpenAI models you can,

The "Car Monitor Wireless CarPlay /Android-Auto HD Screen Camera Bluetooth" system can be used legally in NSW while driving, as long as it is properly mounted and the driver only uses the permitted functions.
Learner and provisional drivers cannot use the device at all.

If you stick to the CarPlay Feature\Android Auto, these are already restricted to permitted functions.
      And Properly Mounted.

      Further detail;
The device must be secured in a cradle or mount that is fixed to the vehicle in a way intended by the manufacturer. The mount cannot obscure the driver's view of the road.
      - The driver can only interact with the device to make or receive phone calls, use audio functions, or access navigation/driver's aid features. They cannot use the device for other functions like texting, emailing, or social media.
      - If the driver is a learner or provisional (P1/P2) licence holder, they are not permitted to use the device at all, even in a cradle, as the laws are stricter for those license types.
      - The passenger can use the device, as long as the screen is not visible to the driver from the normal driving position.

    • Found it.

  • Do these devices drain your car battery?

    • +1

anything powered off your car drains the battery obviously, if the engine is running / you are driving then the alternator is charging the car, if you mean does it draw a lot of amps then it shows 3.1 amp as output on the charger I haven't tested with a multimeter or anyting, I'd say it would be no different to running a larger satnav screen. Maybe message the seller if you are that concerned

similar spec says Power less than 10Watt
