Login Sessions Keep Expiring Too Soon

This morning login sessions seem to be expiring way too soon. Requiring logins over and over again.

  • There was a server update overnight to Debian 12. We are currently looking into the issue. Scotty has updated below.

My boss would appreciate the less time I'm spending on OzBargain due to this :P

      • +17

I'm spending more time on here as I have to login and get 2fa each time.

        • I wasn't even getting them until now.

    • also your sub product-category tags at/near the top of the screen are missing
both have been issues for me since 8am yesterday

      • It should be fixed now.

I've logged in 3 times within the past hour.

I literally wrote my comment, went to click "Post Comment" and I got logged out and not authorised to comment lol

Same. My rant against that woman at Arj is lost to the internet ether :(

      • An HSM reference on ozbargain! Awesome. I must have watched the original 100 times with my daughter on release.

      • Would've probably preferred the Ben Lee version (although only barely), unless you were trying to bother me with the HSM version (in which case, please proceed).

  • Bearish signal

  • +1

Same here, bit of a pain.

  • +3

    So it's not only me.

  • +1

ahhhh i feel better now knowing that its not just me

Hilarious man. Had to check user14180 just to make sure, didn't have to scroll far down to find and confirm.

          • +1

@afoveht: And thank you for enjoying my efforts! :)

        • +1

          Nicely played.

    • +5

Sigh, I assumed this was a joke, but checked the settings just in case. 😂

  • Me too

The board appreciates you kept with the 7 character format, however they’re not so sure about the omittance of HS…

        • +1

I can't even blame autocorrect on that one. D'oh.

  • Was wondering what was going on..

  • -1

    Ditto

  • +1

    Same here

@scotty Another DDoS attack or something?

  • I had do login 4 times already.

  • The main issue is with upgraded redis from 6 to 7 and something is broken whenever it does a DB save. I've been running redis 7 on ChoiceCheapies for a few weeks now and don't really have an issue so I suspect it might be something to do with our configuration. Still investigating.

    • +45

TIL that choicecheapies is really just the UAT site for ozbargain.

      • +10

New Zealand was the first country to have women's suffrage, adopt standard time, pay an old age pension from tax revenue, first person to climb everest was a kiwi and now this.

Welcome to New Zealand, the world's dev channel

    • Honestly I'm surprised it's not just outsourced somewhere now and you do business stuff.

    • +1

      There was no rollback procedure?

  • +2

I got an email that said click on this link. Honestly guys let’s not train people to be victims of fraud. Later in the email there was a code you could enter. Let’s just have that as the Authenticator.

Do not expect me to authenticate my email address or click on links. If you want things like that then have messages in my account so there is a pretty good chance it comes from you guys.

    • -4

or you could just turn off 2fa. it's an ozbargain account, nothing to steal here.

      • +9

        nothing to steal here.

Other member's money from the classifieds, who trade with you not realising that your account was compromised and it's not really you. Some users in the past used the same logins at OzBargain, that they used at another site, which was compromised.

This is the primary reason for mandatory email 2FA.

Do not expect me to authenticate my email address or click on links.

Feel free to disable it. Or switch to App-based 2FA authentication like Authy or Google / Microsoft Authenticator

      • +2

Done. But I think you missed my point. Happy to give a code just don’t give me a link.

  • Having same issue - following

    • +15

Fun fact: saying “same issue” when it’s already been established that there’s an issue, doesn’t speed up the solution.

    • +14

Telling someone to "fix now" when they are already fixing it doesn't make the fix happen faster.

Not even an OzBargain Premium member

      • Hopefully it makes them fix it slower just to trigger the pearl clutchers…

      • +1

        quit while you're behind mate

        • -8

          oh no.
don't tell me more negative votes incoming.. sheeeeeet

  • Lucky I didn't type a post that took me 10mins to type out.

I got logged out when typing out a 2 min reply in another post.

I wonder if it will log me out typing this post. Better hit ctrl-a, ctrl c

    • +6

Why did you just post a blank reply? How is that even possible?

        • +7

Now you've done it twice. The ozbargain back end is stuffed today.

          • @Muzeeb: I will give $1,000 to the first person who PMs me!

            Oh, no takers?

            • +5

@JimB: Looks like JimB is now in the penalty box. See you in 2 weeks Jim.

I totally agree jv. You make a very valid point.

          • +3

@Muzeeb: I don’t, and I suspect you’re just trying to get in jvs good books so you can have the heart at the next goat sacrifice…

            • +3

@mapax: jv's rule book does mention, and I quote

Rule 1.5.2 (b) - the heart always goes on jv's plate

But there is an allowance in

Rule 1.5.2 (s) - in the unlikely event that jv chooses to share the heart then vj [sic] has the sole authority to select a new custodian of the heart

              • +1

@Muzeeb: Haha, I see you’re neither confirming nor denying that you’re making a play for that heart. Seriously though, if you miss out just let me know and I’ll get you one next time I get a goat control contract.

Used code to get in and then got a fresh bunch of codes incase

Not a real big issue people… just use ya code, ya back in and life long and prosper…

  • Me too. Google Chrome on Pixel 8 Pro

    • Happening on my iPhone and pixel 7 pro

      • Pixel 6 Pro here. Multiple logins per hour

    • +5

The issue (redis) is server side. It has no relevance what device you are using.

  • +6

Fine, I get it. I'll do some work

    Glad it’s not just me

    • Doesn't seem new TBH.

Always the Labs, they’re usually conspiring for a feed, a belly rub and to be told they’re a good boy.

      • Someone forgot to pay the cheese tax ¯\(ツ)/¯

    • Shall we drop in some israel palestine stuff just to really stir the pot?

    • You forgot JV

  • +5

Nice work on the transparency from the mods - I thought it was because they didn't like me and my account got flagged to annoy me off the platform :P

    • They're just being nice, it is actually just you.

      • Damn - looks like everyone is in on it! It's like high school all over again

  • Same here.

  • +3

    Late April Fool's joke.

  • +4

    Early April Fool's joke.

  • +1

I think it's my 3rd time logging in today.

    • For me, it must be like a dozen times today.
      Issue still ongoing…

      • +1

        This man Ozbargains!

The amount of re-logins is proportional to how often you visit the site.

Mods mentioned Redis so there's a cookie that's stored in the cache that's being either:

        1) Invalidated too quickly
        2) Getting lost in the cache (if distributed)

Or it could be something really wacky like a time sync issue where one server is too far ahead/behind and throwing away the auth session

    • Have you only visited 3 times today? :D

Not sure if it's actually any different to my desktop but feels like I'm logging in again every second visit.

  • +3

Well that ten years certainly flew by …..

I wonder what people are doing outside ..

    • +2

      I feel older than yesterday.

      • +2

        It’s bright outside …

  • -1

    Keep getting logged out.

  • So I'm not the only one

  • +1

makes me re log in everytime. its annoying as.

  • +1

God it’s annoying, every time I log in, I have to contact the owner of the email account I hacked when I signed up because they changed their password on me and ask them what the new code is for the account I hacked on OzBargain, just so I can log in to downvote jv’s comments…

    • +4

Geez, having to constantly log in has really done a number on some peoples sense of humour :D

      • +1

Oh wow… guess with all the logging in, it’s dulled some users sarcasm detector… maybe time to find a deal on Anusol cream for all their butthurt.

  • +3

    Still borked…..

  • this has got me enabling app based 2FA, because Bitwarden (and I’m sure other apps) will auto-copy the token when it fills in the password. Just means that I don’t have to go to my emails to get the code

    • I only recently found out Keepass can do OTP.
Has sure come in handy today, especially on mobile as I can just use it's keyboard in Keepass2Android which has buttons for username/password/TOTP.
