This was a $64,990 DA car a month ago, a huge $25k price drop. To be fair this was more like a $50k car with a 65k RRP but now selling for 40k.

To put into perspective there’s only 2 EVs sub 40k DA on market, base level MG4 and GWM Ora.

This is easily the more premium of the 2.

I’ve given this a test drive, although it’s not as punchy as the MG4 it’s a nicer drive and has a much more premium feel and more features such as sunroof.

        • As a commuter only car it would be acceptable if you have home charging at decent rates or solar. It comes with 11kw AC charging which is decent.

          I wouldn't want to take it for longer trips.

            • @Brick Tamland: You could only go like 1.5hrs one way with highway driving. The range is closer to 300km at 100kmh plus.

              It makes those types of trips more difficult.

    My real trouble with this car starts with How to pronounce or say it properly either in French or in English, and that always stops me from buying it. Eg..how can you marry someone when you can't even say the name properly

    I wouldn't touch this, 330km range for $40k. With EVs, in my opinion, the most important things to consider is range and then charging speeds.

      For the average driver who probably does less than 60km round trip each day this is fine. Just charge every 3 days

      Perfect for a city car. Not great if you want to travel interstate often.

      Wouldn't you consider your needs of the car first? If you only have a short commute to work a 200KM range maybe fine.

      • I think you guys misunderstand, there are much better options at the $40k mark with has increased range, like the MG4. I think the concept of brand equity is not as important with EVs vs normal ICE cars. The key deciding factor currently is $ per KM range you get.

          But the MG4 is quite cheap inside whereas the Pug is almost luxury. If I didnt need the range I'd preference a nice interior over a longer range than I wont need or use. I will use the nice interior everyday but maybe not the longer range at all…

          MG4 at 40k has 30km more claimed range… you’re really gonna care about driving 10 mins longer than all the other features of the car?

            @cloudy: Thought MG4 was around 380km range, but even 30km extra range is a massive factor for me, along with charging speed. For me the price of an EV around these prices are entirely based on battery size, if another car has 9% more range at the same price, that is a big factor to consider. Of course if this car has leather seats, sunroof etc… luxury stuff as standard they will play a factor.

    The exterior and interior design from french manufacturers has always been an excellent blend of being futuristic, luxurious and quirky. Feels like a cockpit whenever you step into any one of them. If it weren't for the resale, questionable reliability and stigma, I would get one in a heartbeat…That's why I drive a Honda nowadays.

    For any Victorian’s melb city Peugeot has brand new demos, undriven, for 2k less. So 38k plus 5 year servicing included worth 1k.

    So basically 3k cheaper then what I posted.

      I might add black is no additional charge along with orange, other colours are $500 more, cheaper than usual colour surcharge.

        Because lots of people feel better having things like brake and suspension checked once in a while. Change the AC air filter, tighten nuts and bolts.

        After a long time change the oil in the single speed reduction gear box. After an even longer time change coolant.

        • Don't forget ozbargain's favourite, blinker fluid.

        Because ev has less moving components… And traditional car dealers make alot of money from servicing… They charge you 500 bucks just for changing the oil and inspecting other things which you can totally do yourself.

        For tesla the only thing you can really inspect is the brake pads which are little used as most of ev braking is regen braking.

          Partly to sustain dealerships margin. Some items do need regular maintenance - brake fluid as an example.

          I guess Tesla branded brake fluid is one of those fly life ones? Possible can be renewed via OTA update. 'Shrug'

          Jokes aside, unless the is well seal that water molecules dont get in, otherwise "no servicing required" on EV is a BS.

          Think of liquid cooling in a PC (nowadays are much better made, the seals and clips). Not uncommon to see tubes bursting, rendering the PC useless in the earlier days.

          OP is asking why other EVs require servicing, but Tesla doesn't.

          OP isn't comparing against ICE vehicles.

      • Because Tesla pitch it as a selling point. It will last just long enough for the warranty to expire without servicing.

    Imagine whoever bought this at the full 65k RPP. Might as well go Tesla with that full RPP, a much better/tuned car.

    This is so much more realistic pricing.

          Lets be real.. low range, lack of charging stations, and stopping and waiting to charge every 300km.. aint nobody interstate road tripping in an EV. Nationwide roadside clearly a sales gimmick on a car like this.

    Peugeot is very wary of the pricing war from Tesla and all the Chinese manufacturers, and acting pre-emptively to clear out as much stock as possible before sales plummet. If it were not for this post, I wouldn't even know that Peugeot sells EVs……

    • Making me wonder if Peugeot Europe are contemplating doing an Infiniti and leaving Oz if sales don't improve. 25k is a massive reduction for a (supposedly) semi-premium brand Looking forward, it's looking bleak for Euro (and eventually Japanese & Korean) car makers as they will have to compete against more and more cheaper Chinese and then Indian brands. Who knows, in 10-15 years time we may even see cars being seriously exported from Africa as the financiers continually look for cheaper labour.

        It’s only a compliance car for Peugeot.

        They have to be seen to do something in Europe plus they have whole of fleet averages to meet. Otherwise they have to pay Tesla or BYD for emissions credits.

        I'd be surprised if we don't see African manufacturing ramp up after China/India but i think it will be further away than 10 years.

        Entirely possible for any of the low volume french brands to just up and leave at any moment. Last year, Lamborghini sold more than Citroen did.

        Not likely mate. Tesla make 18% margin (industry average is 8.9%), they are in a far better position to reduce prices until other manufacturers bleed out.

      Haha sure. This was severely over priced to begin with. Hence the massive price drop. Who in their right mind would pay 65k for an EV with theoretical 320km range? No one sane.

    320km range and thats not even in real life range. You will need to charge it every 5 mins.

  • Could you even drive this between Sydney and Melbourne? The first EV charger out of Sydney seems to be 329km away.

        seriously disagree, guy in WA drove around Australia in an EV 4 time, 1st time 5 years ago and was so difficult with slow chargers, the last time was a few months ago and it was a breeze with all the super chargers and went around Australia in 10 days averaging 1,300km a day. This was a model Y with a 515km range.

        Just based on what's being reported in the news with respect to sales figures, cheap Chinese options, Tesla share prices and a tanking second hand EV market.

              You said EV car prices will drop based on this car being "a lot of car for the cash", which I disagree with. It's not a lot car for the cash. It was overpriced to begin with and given the pathetic range this car is able to do, I woudn't even call $40k a good deal.
              EV's were always going to decrease in price over time as more and more companies start making it. Talk about stating the obvious.
