  • Lots of people wingeing about these drives around the place, anyone bought one recently like to comment ?

    • +2

Got a few of them, no problems at all. Very nice fast and quiet drives. Only thing I don't like is the huge white LED on them, but you can easily cover it.

    • +2

Don't buy from HN. They will be out of stock in most stores and won't even bother to deal with your order before their stocks are back, which can take a few weeks. To change a store to pick up you have to call their support centre not the store and then the support centre will call the store to confirm and etc… You will just be wasting your time dealing this non-sense hassle. So take my advice, buy it from somewhere else even if you are considering buying this drive.

      • Looks like most stores have stock at the moment. The headache starts when the stores are OOS

        • Yes sometimes they display "have stock" but when I call they said no stock.

        • +12

I tried to buy one of these the last time they were on sale. I ordered online for instore pickup. They confirmed accepted and received payment for the order. A week later hadn't received the pickup email so gave them a ring. They couldnt find the order on their system under my name, i offered to give them the order confirmation number and they said their system isn't linked to the online system and they cant search using that number. I lold. (Seriously guys, its 2013. Link up your shit)

So I went into the store in person with my order confirmation and they looked for it, checked for stock, they were all out and said that maybe my stock was stolen (good job guys), and that there wouldn't be any more in for a couple of weeks. I asked if any other stores have it? They said nope, I said can I have an alternate model/brand for the same price? They said nope. I said, well then you better give me a refund, and they said yeah we better. I said sarcasticly thanks for giving me a call to let me know that I was never going to get my hard drive.

I then used their display laptops to go onto staticice to find the next cheapest hard drive and went and got that. The next day the harvey norman website STILL said that they had the hard drive in stock. -.-

  • I purchased this 1 TB a month ago from JB Hifi for 79$. very happy with it.

  • Mine died within first yr. First one in a while though.

    • +3

Well then it would have been covered by warranty. We're there any issues getting a replacement?

  • Are these able to be disassembled for use in a PS3?

    • +5

Nope, these have the usb ports soldered to the hdd IC so there's no internal sata ports to connect to a ps3

  • $75 now?

    • +1

Add to cart and it goes down to $68.

  • +4

WELCOME5 is that a 'Promotional Code'? as it doesn't accept it

    • .

  • I bought a seagate from JB's 2 days ago and is still in the packaging unopened…I'd prefer this WD, anyone had any experience returning unopened purchases to JB's??

    • +1

yep, unopened no worries, they'll refund you

      • Thanks Kevin!

    • Just keep in mind you can't open the disk and connect it directly to a PC or other device by SATA, but you can with the Seagate.

  • Does this need external power supply? And are they formatable to fat32 easily so that my smart tv can read them.

    • No, runs off the usb power. Your tv should accept NTFS hdds, if not it's easy to format using gparted in linux or there's a few windows apps floating around that'll format to fat32.

  • So can we rip it out and use in our MacBooks or no?!

    • No.

    • +2

President Clinton, if you bought one of these then you couldn't rips yours out and shove it in your Pro.

      Deny.

Don't deal with HN online, they are very disorganised. The staff really don't know what's happening when I called. I don't think they have a good inventory system.

  • Just ordered one online. Made sure the stock is available in the store before going pressing the Buy Now button. Hope I get it !!!

    • DId you manage to put in the promo code? Its not working for me.

      • Neither even when I set up a new account??

      • +1

Yes I did. When you sign up, you get a promo code in the email. Its actually WELCOME5******. just not WELCOME5.

      • +1

Yes. WELCOME5 is not working. And I created a new account and the email received didn't give me any promo code if you want to order it RIGHT NOW.

Instead, you can sign up their newsletter (for the new account) and you will get $5 dollar voucher by email. the one-off code will be WELCOME5XXXXXX it is valid for 48 hrs. If you order two or more, it still give you $5 dollar off in total. Hopefully this will work for you. www.harveynorman.com.au/email-signup

  • code didnt work for me but i still ordered one…cheers

Talked to a Harvey Norman rep online and he said the code was unique and you will get one in a couple of days after creating an account. So, I went to Officeworks and they beat the price down to $64.60

i wont buy anything from harvey norman online. had 3 bad experiences where you spend hours calling and e-mailing to find out whats happening with your order, things aren't in stock, they dont tell you etc. Most disorganised ecommerce site around.

highly recommend getting this price matched at officeworks if you want it. I would pay 20% more for it not to deal with HN

    • Gerry did it on purpose, so we will go to his stores.

How does this differ to My passport?

  • +1

    • +2

      it's a usb 3 cable……….

  • My Girlfriend has bought Three. 1st One dropped on the ground and It stopped working so do not drop it I warn you otherwise the Data will be un-readable.

2nd One was bought for an ex house mate.

3rd One was bought to replace the 1st one. Working good enough. Quiet Drives.

  • Thanks, bought 2 for $63 each.

  • Officeworks in Brisbane CBD have quite a few on hand at $68 (the tag on the shelf says $89, but it will ring up as $68). Might be worth a try to get them match the $5 off you get with the promo code.

  • Will I be able to get Officeworks to match the $63 price rather than the $68?

  • I have had mine for few months, got for $79 from JB. Very good. USB 3.0 is awesome

  • +1
    • Thanks for that. The WELCOME5 code is not working for me so I might just get it delivered from BingLee instead.

  • I have 4 of these now, Harvey norman have little or no stock(none at the stores near me), Office works will price match +5% off bringing it to $64.60 each, for as many as you want not just 1, compared to harvey normans $5 off for online purchases.

  • has anyone registered recently and have received the $5 off email yet?

    • +1

I registered for their email newsletter and got the 5$ coupon.
These HDD are not in stock - but I ordered 1 anyway as I need one non-urgently. If it does not come into stock in 10 days, I can cancel my order.

      • How long did it take after signing up did you get the coupon email? A couple of days?

  • Anyone have issues with these. At times my computer wont recognize it. I have to unplug and plug many times.

    • Bought one over a year ago. Dropped from a table and thrown around in a bag and works just fine. I just bought another one here for $63, picking it up @HN this arvo.

  • Still have not received mine - I saw stock available in a few places in the last 10 days and emailed them, but still nothing confirmed. May cancel the order.
