  • It appears to be limited to sydney area, bs.

    • Im in syd area, but will still pass. looks like it has nrma logo on it.

      • Probably just peel it off.

        • You can't. It's actually printed on the side but nothing a Sharpie can't do!

        • Scratch off with a nail or sugar cube. You could also try various solvents to see which one works (metho, turps, paint thinner).

    • +1

No, it has the Central Coast and Newcastle areas too.

  • are they available for pick up immediately??? got conf email but doesnt say….

    • According to the FAQ, you can pick it up straight away once you get your confirmation email.

  • I think you can or said just present this confirmation to them to collect.

I am already with them so doesn't matter to give them my details again.

I have two car insurance with them see if they will give me two.

By anyway I already have holders those that mount on air con outlet, just want to see how is this one.

    • +1 if you're already with them or have been with them in the past, they've got all the details so no biggie. In fact I will have to see them soon-ish anyway so might as well a freebie at the same time (after dropping them $1800+ for my renewal…)

  • thanks op

  • I work for them and got one on Friday. Decent for a freebie.

    • +4

      That'd mean you'd tick "I am associated with Nrma.com.au" then :p

  • Its similar to the items being sold on Ebay for a few bucks.

  • Freebie. Drivers license needed to pick up. Cheers OP

If you don't want the spam, use a burnable email address, false details other than your name. The email only contains your name, no barcodes or serial numbers.

    • its also not a secure site, but the email says

      1. Print this conformation email or save it on your phone.
      2. Present it together with your full NSW driver's licence at:
        (Branch you nominated)
      3. Mount the phone hoder in your car.

The paranoia is strong in this one.

No ID check at Parramatta, some staff didn't know about the giveaway as they got the email about it this morning but they had several large boxes full of them.

    • Thats quite chunky

      • +1

        That's what she said.

        • ..not

    • Did she even ask for a confirmation email or was she giving out to just about anyone?

      • I showed them the email on my phone as I was stating the purpose of my visit

    • thanks,

i'll be going to the parramatta store at lunch

    • Mate, will that fit a note 2?

      • +1

Box says maximum width 110mm, minimum 40mm

        • Beauty! Thanks for the info and have a nice day!

        • -2

          That's what she said.

      • fits my note 2 fine,

I had to hack it onto my older ebay dock which had the bendable arm thing as the note 2 is too tall for the stubby one and hits the windscreen

    • I collected at Parramatta and they asked to see my Drivers Licence.

  • Perfect, my car phone holder from DX broke on Friday. The only thing is the NRMA one looks just like the one that broke, better get a spare

  • +3

You must have a full NSW driver's licence

    =(

    • see above posts, some guy said they dont check

      • They did ask for my license, and compared my name to the email. (at the Sydney city branch)

        • When a friend and I went earlier today they only looked at the email. Probably just depends on who you talk to.

        • Yep - at Syd City the guy was pleasant enough and just had a quick glance at licence and email on phone.

  • Thanks OP!

Above is a quick summary to make it easier

    Have a nice day….

  • just came back from the branch. while i was waiting there, four guys got their freebie. three of them didnt have any problem. the two male nrma employees were friendly and gave them the holder straight away. one chinese guy had some trouble with a mid-age female employee. it took him like 5 min to "negotiate" with that woman. i was not very lucky but not too bad either. this asian lady gave me the holder but also tried to give me a quote on my car. after i rejected to waste time, she asked me to leave my name and phone number. anyway, thanks op.

    • .

    • ??
      4 guys = 3 guys + 1 Chinese guy.
So which one are you? ;P

      • +1

wow you read everything to the dot

  • thanks OP, picked one up with the email printout without issue (existing customer)

  • yep just picked up mine from Syd city branch. Yes, they do check ID/full licence

  • Nice one, right at the right time too. Nearly bought one on weekend

  • Nice found, cheers

  • can we pickup for another family member if we have their licence?

    • According to the FAQ, you can. You need their email and a copy of their license.

I don't know If you tried to collect 2 at the same time (one for you and one for the family member) whether you would encounter any resistance.

  • Pick up one but the lady said it is only for new customer. BTW also need my Drivers license and also want to sell me something even I am existing customer.

But on the site said this so just enter whatever you don't have.

"Or if you're an existing NRMA Insurance customer, simply enter the details of any other NRMA Insurance products you may be interested in and select the month you are likely to take out a new policy. "

  • +14

Existing customer. Just got one from city branch without any issues. The guy wanted to check email (soft copy was ok) and drivers though.

In true Ozbargain style I caught the free city shuttle bus to pickup my free phone holder ;)

    • +2

Lol I also caught the free 555 shuttle to collect my phone holder.

    • Same here….WIN!

  • just picked up mine from parramatta store,

It is a short stubby style so bit hard to fit my note2 with the windshield angles

  • +2

anybody know if this can be mounted anywhere else other than the windscreen? As I normally would have the phone connected to the car charger and would probably find the cable in the way if connected in the suggested location.

    • Don't think so as there is no other mount bracket.

      • Thanks, I'll try my luck at picking one up tomorrow. Its free so there is nothing to loose anyway.

  • Thanks OP. Registered one. Can't pick up until weekend, I hope they reserve one for me, else its Thursday

    • +1

Fingers crossed. There are 40,000 across about 25 branches it seems, so hopefully there are enough to last a while. Even if the CBD branches get the majority, you'd think the outlying branches would get a few hundred each, which hopefully last at least a week!

      • I hope so too. The closest branch to me is Macquarie Centre and I cannot go there until Sat, also they do not open late Thu. that's no good.

  • +1

Thanks OP, picked one up from Eastgarderns. I already had car insurance with them (ticked interested in CTP insurance), they didn't check my license or try sell me other products.

    • Glad it worked out :)

  • Picked one up in the City branch. Had to grab a ticket and wait five minutes, but free is free.

The teller did check my email (on my phone) and license.

  • cool. registered for one and will pick up this week.

I like how they have exactly the phone I am using in the picture.

    Thanks OP.

  • planning to get one tomorrow from Hornsby. Will let you know how it goes.

  • Do you have to have full license for this?

    • Too bad I am on P2. Anyway, I'll try my luck tomorrow

  • Cheers OP!

  • Picked up mine today from East gardens. They definitely try to up sell you something when you're there but it was perfect opportunity for me to update my address on my NRMA policy!

  • Got mine from Richmond NSW at 4pm last night. Girl said I was the first person she had seen with the request for the holder. She looked up my name on her computer and they still had me on it, even though I haven't had any insurance with them for many years. Said she'd send some info to me in August when my CTP slip is due.

  • +1

Picked up mine a few minutes ago from the Sydney City branch, scored a free cycling water bottle as well! Thanks OP

    • The freebie that keeps on giving :)

  • I hope there's enough to last until weekend.

Lets see if they reserve for the ones registered. Not sure if its first come first served.

It's silly their branches do not open on Thursday nights.

A true ozbarginer probably take a day off work to pick it up

  • Got mine at Hornsby this morning. Girl hardly even looked at my email and didn't want my drivers licence either. Guy in front of me was carrying 4 out of the shop.

  • Got one from burwood with international driving license. No issue.

  • Picked mine up from Wetherill Park this morning. Asked for my licence and the girl handed it over. No other questions or upselling :)

    • Good for us, not sure it is what NRMA head office would have had in mind though heh

  • Just picked one up from Brookvale westfield Waringah Mall. Other than the normal waiting time it was straight in and out. Just show my licence. No one tried to sell me anything. Didn't notice anyboidy else picking any up.

  • picked mine up from Macquarie Centre just then.
5 people in front of me and 4 of those are for this. LOL
found my record on their database, i told them i have insurance with them before but getting too expensive now compare to others
happy to hear from them tho when my insurance is due
the guy over the counter is happy and hand over the mobile holder :)

    • I think I was one of them.

I was watching everyone there and was seeing them all holding their print outs. LOL

  • +1

In that picture it shows the phone not mounted in a legal place. "It must be positioned in the vehicle to not distract or obscure the driver’s view." Low and in the middle would be better. No higher than the dash instruments is a good guideline that Police in QLD seem to use. Preferably in the middle so that it only obscures the bonnet. In the picture shown it easily obscures some of the view of the road, especially if the driver is not tall.

    • I prefer the location above. Makes it easier to reach with my right hand, and obstructs my view less than if it were mounted in the middle.

Haven't had a problem in NSW.

  • Picked one from Burwood NSW this morning without issues.

Lady checked my driver's licences and email before handing over the holder.

    Thanks OP

  • Has anyone managed to get one with a P2 license?

    • Yes, I did. A nice lady on the counter
      :d

      • Which branch may I ask?

  • I picked up two from Parramatta branch yesterday, I genuinely wanted to know their comprehensive pricing (but it was horrible: ~$1660) then showed the lady emails for my wife and I on my phone. Thanks @OP

  • Fairly cheep phone holder. The rubber side rails block the side USB/charging socket on my HTC phone when inserted the correct way with the bumper at bottom to stop it sliding out. Not very useful for me because of this limitation. As I like to charge my phone whilst in the car.

  • +1

Picked up 2 with my wife this morning. Lots of people doing the same. Been long time since last time in a branch.but the lady was quite nice and after knowing I've been a road assistance member for 13 years did not question me anything.

Hand over license check email, then got the holder. Not bad for freebies, thanks op

  • Picked one from NRMA city office in Sydney. The one I had earlier was broken and I got this at the right time.

    • Good news :)

  • +1

    Got mine today. Awesum!!
