Acer AL2416WD 24" LCD Monitor $597.95 from ShoppingSquare
Forget about Dell UlraSharp — you can now get a high definition 24 inch LCD monitor from Acer for less than $600 (+$18 postage)!! It was actually from ShoppingSquare’s newsletter yesterday (somehow landed in my spam box :)
From the price comparison at ShopBot, it seems it is a general trend that this model is dropping to $600 level. Spec looks good on paper (in comparison to Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP)
- Max Resolution: 1920x1200
- Brightness: 500cd/m2 (Dell: 400cd/m2)
- Dot Pitch: 0.27mm
- Contrast Ratio: 1000:1
- Response Time: 6ms
- Input: D-Sub + DVI-D (with HDCP support)
It probably lacks features like memory card readers and component inputs, but at $400 lower I think who is going to get my money (if I ever going to buy one).
That one is using TN panel though. If you search AOC 416V TN on Google you will see a lot of articles on this particular model, especially comparison with Great Wall’s V247 which uses S-PVA panel (which is better and cheaper according to the reviews although I don’t think we can get this model in Australia). It is using a Samsung TN panel, and according to the review, it is one of the best TN panel LCD available, but still fall short of comparison due to TN’s inherited problem.

Awesome… any details on what panel it uses?
6bit? 8bit?
