Is this online instore or both? Sounds awesome!

    • +1

Was just trying to determine that from the leaflet….it doesn't say instore only but doesn't give any indication it's online either. It just says "MASSIVE savings storewide Saturday December 7".

    • It is instore and online, however what I learnt today is Big W maintain separate pricing for each entity and they will not price match online over in store.

Their online prices WITH delivery is cheaper than their sale prices in store. (Man of Steel is $11 delivered, or $19 in store)

      • Yeah it looks like it ended up being half price in store, but then half that again for many of those same titles online. Most likely a pricing error, though they might still honour it.

I bought a few in store, but then when I got home and checked online some of those where half that price again. So I'll just return those if they honour their mistaken prices.

        • Some box set in store are better value. There is one Marvel super hero set of 6 blu ray including xmen first class for $20.

  • +4

Been waiting for more $1 (feet) thongs. Yay

    • +1

You shouldn't have to wait - apparently it's everyday low price LOL.

  • +10

Looks like it's time to add a few more blurays to my "I don't need this but it's cheap!" collection :)

        • -3

so which one were you referring to?

Doctor Who or the asianised version Doctor Woo?

        • +1

I believe this is an entirely new show.

An anthropomorphic owl with a Medical degree, and his wacky companions, set off on some hilarious adventures across the local forest.
          It's a hoot.

    • +2

Next thing you know you'll be calling thongs flip flops, and then you'll be negged again for talking american.

"Your kind aint welcome round here" (in twangy deep south redneck accent)

  • Harry Potter Box Set? :)

    • +11

did you miss it the last 4 months straight its been on tv?

they just keep replaying it over and over.

      • +9

So what? It's not Blu ray.

        • +16

jokes man… ease the trigger off the neg button, you'll have a stroke or something.

  • +2

Gee… it almost feels like a 'clearance' sale

Imagine.. BigW getting rid of Blu-rays and just keeping DVDs - that's basically their market (as well as Kmart and Targets)

What a year for Blu/DVD : gone from sale in Myer.. David Jones ..Dick Smith

    • Imagine….if JB did the same deal.

      • I can imagine. Sort of happened in the HDDVD sale :)

      • +1

        It's easy if you try

        • no hell below us

  • +6

Hope staff don't clean up the stock themselves before the doors open.

  • +3

Sorry for this dumbass question but can I play Blu-rays in my ordinary DVD player?

    • +39

      Yes

    • +4

No, you cannot play Blu-ray in DVD player.
You can play both Blu-ray and DVD in Blu-ray player.

    • -4

A dumb question is "Will a DVD play in my blu-ray" (dumb since you could JFGI).
But the other way around is beyond dumbass. (And donkeys are not so stupid, BTW. Or did you mean arse?)

    • +16

DVD player? Don't be silly just use your VHS player for the Blu-rays!

      • +11

Silly, they're too thin to put in a VHS player. You'll need to glue about 20 together to achieve the required thickness. On the plus side, you'll be able to watch all the movies at once.

    Any Fast&Furious blu-ray disks?

      • +4

thanks, I'll get the set for "Brian O'Conner"s leaving.

        • -3

          It's definitely a killer deal.

        • -7

Paul Walker died on the weekend.

        • +2

          That's race-ist

        • -1

Too soon, another week and everyone will be over it.

        • +2

Invidicus, be nice or people will be furious at you very fast.

        • Paul Walker still had one last fast & furios to be released in the cinema. He finished it before he died. So one last of his movie to watch if you are a big fan of him.

        • They'd only just started filming from what i'd heard.

        • +1

They'd only just started filming from what i'd heard.

I read they'd only done all the expensive stunt scenes, which has left them with a whole lot of nothing and a lot less budget (read: total mess).

  • +3

I suspect this has something to do with BIG W (well.. Woolworths) announcing they would exit the Home Movie Market in early 2014 in their woolworths and Big W chains.

    • +1

Wow, pretty soon it'll just be JB and Sanity. Won't have any real reason to go into Big W after that.

      • +4

        Homebrew :-)

      • Good if you feel like being abused by the wealth of scum who shop there…

      • +3

Pretty soon it will be online only, streaming PPV. Of course with our broadband and the libs murdering the NBN it won't be 1080p.

        • +1

Yeah they seem to be really twisting our arms to pirate.

It's not that hard to allow a proper digital download service to exist, you idiot dinosaurs who monopolise the video industry in Australia. I hope your willful bite-the-hand-that-feeds you stupidity bleeds your pockets dry, after charging us double for videos for decades…

    • Source?

      • Woolworths AGM

        • I think that is referring to them divesting Dick Smith. I'd be shocked if Big W stops selling DVD/Blu-ray. They are phasing out TV's though.

  • +2
    • +2

cant find what you were searching for :(

  • +2

From here you have to select "bluray" from the bottom left:
    http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/dvds-blu-ray?viewType=G…

  • +2

The real question is whether this is online or not. I'm considering returning some of the stuff I bought from JB that I haven't opened yet, however:

20% ends this Thursday - if you return it, and then BigW doesn't have stock on Saturday, you're stuck. Unfortunately I also bought over the weekend, so I'm not sure how long I have to return it? If it's 7 days, then it'll be over by Saturday. If it's longer, then I can check out BigW and then buy the cheaper replacement, and then return it to JB. Hmm.

    • JB's receipt doesn't specify any time limit. In fact, it doesn't say anything at all about returns except to say retain your receipt for proof of purchase.

    • +3

I'm pretty sure JB will have another 20% off sale.

      • +2

        Boxing Day definitely.

    • 90 days to return it.

  • +1

Hope this is online too.. Don't fancy annoying my local Big W for everything on Saturday morning!

  • +3

Star Wars The Complete Saga - $40 when on sale - (http://www.bigw.com.au/entertainment/dvds-blu-ray/science-fi…) would be a good buy.

And would beat this deal (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/125147).

  • +1

Seriously? There aren't many places to buy bluray in store. Now Big W is gone too. It was like the main reason I went inside Big W!

Kmart, Target and JB Hifi. There is Sanity in one shopping Centre only here.

When Myer stopped selling Bluray it became much harder to get rarer bluray. Now it is nearly 100% JB Hifi and that just doesn't sit well with me.

Our only hope is if Amazon sells bluray in Australia soon.

    • They already do.. Well, sort of.

    • +3

Buy from Amazon UK - UK and Australia are the same Blu Ray region (and a lot of discs are region free).

    • I'm OK with this happening as soon as we can get legal blu-ray quality 1080p downloads of movies for the same price or less, but it hasn't happened yet. Maybe it's just too hard for the multi-billion-dollar entertainment industry to manage?

  • +1

Whats the chances they will reset all the blu-ray to RRP? Ie the ones marked as on sale save $$$$

Hopefully they will stay at the current prices. Thus making Star Trek TNG, TOS and Enterprise series blu-ray $20 each.

  • This should be tagged in gaming too.

  • +4

Just confirmed with BIGW online that this is INSTORE ONLY. So no sleep in on Saturday unfortunately :(

    • Aww peas.. The range online is a lot bigger so was hoping it would be online too, hope they change their mind.

    • Dammit! No Breaking Bad box set then

    • +2

Have to get up very early on Saturday to grab this deal. As all stores have extended trading hours over Christmas. Either 7am, 8am or 8.30am. So check web site for the extended tranding hours of your local store.

    • -1

      Nice confirmation there.

    • +4

They bloody lied to me! So angry. Sorry guys. I did actually contact big w. :(

  • +6

Gotta make sure I stop by and hide a few box-sets and singles somewhere elaborate

    • +4

The Box sets are often in the glass case so I doubt that's going to work :)

      • +15

Not with that negative attitude it won't.

        • +10

Inviducus: "Hi BigW Salesguy, can I please purchase the following Box Sets ________ etc? (points to the glass case and picks out 10)
BigW Salesguy: (Blank stare…) "You sure you need all 10?"
Invidicus: "Hmmm…nah actually, can I also have _______ ? (adds another 3 to his list)
BigW Salesguy: (Reluctantly reaches in the glass case and pulls out Blurays and places them on the counter) "Wow, these are sure to cost you over $800. We actually have a sale on this weekend wher…"
Invidicus: (Pointing excitedly) "Oh my, look over there, someone fell over!"
Invidicus' friend: (On floor in pain) "Good sir, please help me…please…"
Invidicus: (Stashes Box Sets under the Xbox One display) "Nobody will look here."

          Piece of cake.

        • You sir, are a genius! If I could upvote you 10 times I would

        • Devious!

  • Oh no. Breaking Bad Blu-ray box set is only available online! We need to find out if the special is online or not. Otherwise Breaking Bad is a no go ;(

    • +3

Already confirmed by warpath6 from Big W that it's in store only. You're all out of luck.
