[P] taco on 23/06/2009 - 12:59 (www.greaterunion.com.au)

UPDATE $9 tickets any movie, any time
Thanks to pmmehta22, I have changed the link, much easier now.

http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?...

Optus $8 movie offer. Usually valid for Wednesdays only but it is working for anytime at the moment.

This also includes advance tickets such as Bruno, Transformers 2, Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince, Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs.

The Optus $8 Wednesdays offer is valid till 30/06/2010, so I am not sure how long this will last.

Please note,
This is not valid for GoldClass, SilverScreen, GMAX or VMAX Cinemas or for 3D Events.

that’s no great loss - GreaterUnion in Melbourne is the oldest, tired, ugliest and most uncomfortable of all the mainstream cinemas there. it’s not worth $9 for a backache, sticky carpet and a small screen.

I think all you need to do is, click on this link https://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ticketreferra...
and then it will bring you the ticket page where you can select the number of tickets.

Then click on “1. Choose a session’ on top left side after “Buy ticket online” where you can chose a new session for any movie & cinema location with your preferred timing. Once you select the session, it will bring you to the same page as above with your selection of movie, location and time & offcourse you will see the ‘Optus $8 offer’ as well

You don’t need to change anything onto the link.

Hope this helps….

Hi,

Tried it today. Booked 2 tckts online. When reached the counter to get the tickets, had to pay full because the girl said this is for Wednesday only. I tried the excuse that website allows the booking but it didn’t work. Ended up paying more because of online booking fee.

Though, you can use it on Wed. If asked if you have optus card, say you have it but you havent brought it.

I went to the same cinema. For Transformers 2. The queue was long as well but I think she was a senior staff/duty manager or so and she knew the scheme well. She didn’t care for the long queue. I argued for like 10 minutes or so.

And maybe they might not be so strict if you go for not-so-recent released movie.

I think if I would have gone to its main counter, the junior staff might not have checked. I went to the one where you pay for snacks and stuff.

It worked.
When I collected the tickets at MIRANDA, the guy asked to see the Optus card. When I said I left it at home he said that the deal was for Wednesday only. I said usually if I try on days when it can’t be used, no sessions are available on the website but because the sessions were available I thought it was OK. He gave me the tickets ($8 each).
Thanks Taco - glad I didn’t have to pay full price cause the movie (Harry Potter) was very ordinary.

has anyone managed to get this to work on the stupid new “event cinemas” site??
when i try going through the old process that Taco listed it redirects you and you lose the $8 option :(

do this mean the $9 deal is gone for good?? that would suck with today’s ticket prices.

Does anyone know if you can still buy Gmax tickets with the card over the counter? I know the terms of the card say it’s not valid for Gmax etc but I remember before a message would pop up saying that those tickets were unavailable online with the special but to go buy it at the counter with the card. Now the message is gone =(

I’ve just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:

  • Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
  • Log in with card number G14380000000
  • You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase “optus” to uppercase “OPTUS” at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
  • Purchase your tickets

When i do ceejay’s method:

I’ve just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:

* Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
* Log in with card number G14380000000
* You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase “optus” to uppercase “OPTUS” at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
* Purchase your tickets

I get this error:

Microsoft VBScript runtime error ‘800a01a8’

Object required: ”

/movies/movietimes_1cinema_xml.asp, line 83

And also, it now redirects to the “events” page.. does anyone have any suggestions or workaround.

Thankz frenz.

Looks like things are starting to break on the greaterunion.com.au site as they complete the rebranding to eventcinemas.com.au

Try this new procedure, it seems to work for me:
* Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
* Log in with card number G14380000000
* You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — that has a Microsoft VBScript runtime error
* Go to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie...
* Purchase your tickets

Seems to be working at the moment by just going to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie... but it is possible that I have a cookie installed that lets me bypass the first few steps. If anyone can confirm, that would be great.

Also FYI, you won’t be able to book Gold Class or VMax sessions with this system.
