Greater Union Cinemas for $9 Any Movie Any Time. Online Purchase Only. Transformers2, Bruno, etc.
UPDATE $9 tickets any movie, any time
Thanks to pmmehta22, I have changed the link, much easier now.
http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?...
Optus $8 movie offer. Usually valid for Wednesdays only but it is working for anytime at the moment.
This also includes advance tickets such as Bruno, Transformers 2, Harry Potter And The Half-blood Prince, Ice Age 3 Dawn Of The Dinosaurs.
The Optus $8 Wednesdays offer is valid till 30/06/2010, so I am not sure how long this will last.
Please note,
This is not valid for GoldClass, SilverScreen, GMAX or VMAX Cinemas or for 3D Events.
I have tried the cards. the card leads you to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. After you login with the card number it will send you to the link I posted in the previous post.
Harry Potter, 16 July 18:00.
https://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ticketreferra...
I think all you need to do is, click on this link https://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ticketreferra...
and then it will bring you the ticket page where you can select the number of tickets.
Then click on “1. Choose a session’ on top left side after “Buy ticket online” where you can chose a new session for any movie & cinema location with your preferred timing. Once you select the session, it will bring you to the same page as above with your selection of movie, location and time & offcourse you will see the ‘Optus $8 offer’ as well
You don’t need to change anything onto the link.
Hope this helps….
This is a common hack for PHP websites that use GET instead of POST. Hope they do not fix this loophole. Got my tickets for Transformers 2.
Just bought 4 tickets for Transformers 2 for tomorrow night.
Thanks to the submitter!!
I don not see them changing this simply cuz it will help them rake in the profits. stuff like this will jst help them sell more tickets ending up making much more than if they sold full price tickets. thats jst my 2c
I used this for The Hangover at George St cinemas yesterday. I showed the printed receipt and he gave me the tickets without even asking about anything else. I also used my Cinebuzz card and they gave me credits for the tickets I purchased. Ended up purchasing some more tickets for Transformers on Saturday at George St, so thanks for the great deal!
Yeh used this offer last night to see Transformers 2 at Macquarie MEGAPLEX.
Upon showing the printout, they just handed the tickets over without any question
Hi,
Tried it today. Booked 2 tckts online. When reached the counter to get the tickets, had to pay full because the girl said this is for Wednesday only. I tried the excuse that website allows the booking but it didn’t work. Ended up paying more because of online booking fee.
Though, you can use it on Wed. If asked if you have optus card, say you have it but you havent brought it.
I tried it at the paramatta westfield greater union on this sunday and was accepted, granted there was a long queue and he wasn’t about to check if it’s valid or not..
I went to the same cinema. For Transformers 2. The queue was long as well but I think she was a senior staff/duty manager or so and she knew the scheme well. She didn’t care for the long queue. I argued for like 10 minutes or so.
And maybe they might not be so strict if you go for not-so-recent released movie.
I think if I would have gone to its main counter, the junior staff might not have checked. I went to the one where you pay for snacks and stuff.
Receive them for this price. See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/13931#comment-75864
Dont have to be member of optus, just click on the link in OP.
Not working anymore, brings you to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/error.asp?...
Unrecognised Page Link
Unfortunately we cannot load your customised ticketing page. Please make sure the URL you are trying to access is correct, or choose an option from the menu at the top of the page.
Hi, I was checking at the same time when you were trying and it was not working then. Kept trying it for a friend and it worked after 2-3 minutes and booked one ticket. My friend got the ticket without any questions asked at the ticket counter, and is watching Transformers @ Parramatta as I write this.
So, it still works.
Hmm I managed to use this offer twice (both not on a Wednesday), but now I get the same problem with the link. Maybe they worked it out?
But they can’t have stopped the offer can they? So how are they selling tickets now? My parents have an Entertainment book which they used to be able to buy tickets through the website (I think they were about $10-$11), but now you can’t book them through the website and you have to order them…
The link still appears to work. But only works when you log in your optus card in this link http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. After logging in, the above link will work.
OK. Go to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. Login with this one: G14380000000. After you login it will lead you to a page where you have limited sessions. Use the link I posted above and all sessions should work now. http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?...
The Website has frequent downs. For the link above to work:
Go to http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus. Login with this one: G14380000000. After you login it will lead you to a page where you have limited sessions. Use the link I posted above and all sessions should work now. http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?...
You will get that when you login, but all session will appear if you click the original link posted, http://www.greaterunion.com.au/movies/tickets/ctp/index.asp?...
i’ve tried a couple times without fail, here’s the sequence
- http://www.greaterunion.com.au/
- wait for it to complete loading
- THEN type “optus” at the end of the url bar to look like this http://www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
- follow the rest of taco’s instruction
- enjoy your labor
10Q taco:)
Followed the instructions that Taco posted above.
It worked.
When I collected the tickets at MIRANDA, the guy asked to see the Optus card. When I said I left it at home he said that the deal was for Wednesday only. I said usually if I try on days when it can’t be used, no sessions are available on the website but because the sessions were available I thought it was OK. He gave me the tickets ($8 each).
Thanks Taco - glad I didn’t have to pay full price cause the movie (Harry Potter) was very ordinary.
So i went in to see harry potter, bought 5 tickets with this. This chic looked all good then thought something was fishy, so she goes to the manager, “hey arent these optus tickets for wednesday nights only?” and the manager says, “yea, theres a bug in the system, nothing we can do really.” Thought to myself sweeeeet, and off i went hehe.
$7 Student Mondays are back. http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/14092
Followed your instructions Taco and it still works :D
Thanks :D
has anyone managed to get this to work on the stupid new “event cinemas” site??
when i try going through the old process that Taco listed it redirects you and you lose the $8 option :(
do this mean the $9 deal is gone for good?? that would suck with today’s ticket prices.
Its working again guys just follow same instructions as before :D
Does anyone know if you can still buy Gmax tickets with the card over the counter? I know the terms of the card say it’s not valid for Gmax etc but I remember before a message would pop up saying that those tickets were unavailable online with the special but to go buy it at the counter with the card. Now the message is gone =(
I’ve just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:
- Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
- Log in with card number G14380000000
- You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase “optus” to uppercase “OPTUS” at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
- Purchase your tickets
When i do ceejay’s method:
I’ve just tested it, and it does still work. Make sure you go through all the revised steps:
* Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
* Log in with card number G14380000000
* You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — change the lowercase “optus” to uppercase “OPTUS” at the end of the URL so that you see all sessions (not just Wednesday)
* Purchase your tickets
I get this error:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error ‘800a01a8’
Object required: ”
/movies/movietimes_1cinema_xml.asp, line 83
And also, it now redirects to the “events” page.. does anyone have any suggestions or workaround.
Thankz frenz.
Looks like things are starting to break on the greaterunion.com.au site as they complete the rebranding to eventcinemas.com.au
Try this new procedure, it seems to work for me:
* Go to www.greaterunion.com.au/optus
* Log in with card number G14380000000
* You’ll be redirected to the ticketing website — that has a Microsoft VBScript runtime error
* Go to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie...
* Purchase your tickets
Seems to be working at the moment by just going to http://www.eventcinemas.com.au/online-ticketing/movies/movie... but it is possible that I have a cookie installed that lets me bypass the first few steps. If anyone can confirm, that would be great.
Also FYI, you won’t be able to book Gold Class or VMax sessions with this system.

Tried Melbourne City, Transformers, Wednesday 9:15pm. Doesn’t work.
