Standard Definition Digital Set Top Box $29 from Dick Smith Electronics

Peter in Hobart sent me this and he doesn’t have an account (which, btw, can be registered here). DSE is selling this cheap SD set top box for only $29. The specification looks alright —

  • Fully DVB-T Compliant
  • Fully DVB . MPEG2 Compatible
  • SDTV, Free-to-Air Reception

But the price is cheap so it is a good addition to your existing analogue TVs. Note this unit only supports standard definition, and if you have a later model of LCD or plasma TV, then you might wish to consider high definition with HDMI input instead.

Update: Search for Cat No. G1185 for this item.

Good deal indeed, however from past experience..they may not have it in stock. Went to my local DSE so many times on the FIRST day of the sale when they open the doors. The usual response “Sorry we have sold out”. Righto!

I’ve had this box before, cost me about $100, it was quiet good lasted about 18 months, but for $29 you can’t really go wrong, I may get another one. Best of all my store has it in stock =]

Its a great deal - but dont forget the other SD box (if you have a spare removable IDE HDD about) posted earlier through Strathfield.

I’ve attached the link - I know Eliz st in Melb had plenty in stock last time I picked up two.
