    here we go again

    • Ok Guys

I've Just bought myself a 46 Z5500 Series Tv From JB HIFI In Miranda

I paid $2685 plus the shop guy gave me a HDMI cable and a Power Surge 4 socket both from Belkin for free (Worth $200)

I just sent in my PS3 redemption

  • Can someone please tell me what you put on the 120 Gig and how to put it there. I have a 40 Gig one with 40 inch x series - very happy with screen - haven't the foggiest what to do with ps3 as we have ps2 games and not back compatible - of course

    • The majority of PS3 games have mandatory game installs. Plus there's a whole heap of downloadable content from the PlayStation Store (including full games).

  • bennib0i, hehe Indeed we do :)

  • Do you think this is a gimmick? Can you bargain the tv for $400 less if you dont take the ps3? so instead of they sell you for $400 less, they give you a ps3.

    • +2

      These are your options:

Buy the TV for $2000 (hypothetical) and claim the free PS3.
Buy the TV for $2000 (hypothetical) and don't claim the PS3.

The retailer cannot, and will not, give you the TV cheaper in exchange for not claiming the PS3. They don't care, because they're not giving you the PS3, it's Sony.

    • +1

The ps3 is through redemtion with sony. You can still bargain a price with most retailers as they are not giving you the ps3.

    • there are some retailers that will give you a choice…
i remember they (either JB hifi or WOW sound) did that with the Panasonic Viera/Nintendo Wii deal. I'm pretty sure they'd give you a modified receipt or something so you cannot claim it afterwards.

      • I recall this too but it was a special deal with the manufacturer and not a widespread promotion like this.

  • I find it a little strange that the counter is showing 19,972 PS3's remaining and the promotion hasn't even begun yet! "As of 16 Oct 16:37 AEDST" - yeah, right.

Good deal though, +1. It just means that Samsung & LG will have to bring out comparable promotions. Should be a good Christmas with the dollar increasing in strength.

    • +3

Samsung already has its promotion out, its a free 22" or 26" tv with purchase of certain models.

      http://samsung.promotionscampaign.com.au/xmasbonustv/

      • Well spotted, I actually posted that as a bargain, but not after reading your comment, came across it in general browsing. You should have submitted it before I did :)

  • I saw the promotion ad on cnet but as i follow the link to sony.com.au, i didn't see any promotion program goes with PS3. They're still promoting 3 years warranty if u buy any qualifying TVs from Sony

  • It will be limited to 20,000 units, so am I right to say we won't know for sure if we're the first 20,000? I might consider this deal but I'd be gutted if I find out I won't be getting one in the end!

    • 20,000 is alot of TV's :)

      • Heh, guess I don't like suspense! Would have been perfect if they made it like the warranty redemption - you get one as long as you submit the redemption form before the closing date.

        • They have a live counter which tells you exactly how many TVs are left (though my above post indicates it's a little sketchy at the moment).

You send them an SMS and they reply with the amount of PS3s left. Only on the last week of the promotion will you find the numbers decreasing to about 1000, don't worry, there will be PLENTY of opportunity to buy one.

          • @cyssero: Oh okay! Yeah I saw that they have a counter above but was thinking how reliable/updated it'd be. Thanks for the info.

    • Well, you better order fast then :)

      • Haha! I need time to consider. :p
But we'll see when they officially announce the promotion, since it says only selected Bravias. If it's the higher range only then I guess not, since I'm only looking to buy a mid range 40 inch.

        • In the past it has been all Full HD Bravia's above 32" (or something like that).

        • Last time it was ANY Full HD TV.
This included the cheaper $1500 32" models.
I would think that any Sony model retailing for around $1500 would qualify.
The production cost of the PS3 has dropped to the point that Sony are actually making a tiny profit on the console rather than a loss when it first came out.

          • @Crownie: That'd be great! I was assuming it'd probably be the higher range ones cos I saw Samsung's bonus 22" LCD promotion - and the cheapest LCD which would qualify is the Series 6 40", which costs about $2600.

            • @ohsnap: I think you'll find a number of places advertising the Series 6 40" at around $2000 at the moment.

          • @Crownie: If I can find a 32" Sony for close to the $1k mark (probably won't) and if I get the PS3, I'm totally buying it and pawning the PS3 on eBay :)

    • heh must be a new tactic to rush the people in, Samsung did it in their last lot of 10,000 22" TVs and ended up doing 2-3 lots of 10,000 in the end, psychology… (strangely enough they don't have a counter on their latest offer)

  • I hope that Sony will still offer the 3 year extended warranty deal in combination with the PS3.
The hardest part will be the wait for the PS3.
Might get the EB 250GB deal to tide me over and then sell the new PS3.
Would be great if I get it around Christmas time so I can get a premuim on eBay :)

  • just wondering, where did you see the ad? i went to cnet.com.au but couldn't find one.

    • +1

Clear your browser history including cookies and user data.
Close and then open your browser
Do a google search for PDP-LX509A
Go to the cnet.com.au link that pops up and the Sony add should Auto Play!

  • usually takes a few months to get the PS3 though right? at least thats what people said last time

    • Last time it said 28 days got mine in 3 weeks.

    • As mason mentioned, they try to 'guarantee' you get your PS3 within 28 days.

      • agree, you had to post the barcode and receipt, which i did by express post. so that would slow down things depending on how long you take.

  • I wonder what the cheapest qualifying tv will be…..

  • Dam, I just bought a full HD bravia 3 weeks ago.

  • +3

James that’s always the case with depreciating asset, you can never win!… If you wait until next year the Bravia TV you get today will be half the price and a PS3 may cost $200 bux

If you wait 10 years you can pick both of them up from the side of the road after people toss them for council cleanup…
A house or apartment is the best place to put your money and the best deal money can buy! :)
I think of it this way.. If the TV works and it has no issues over its usable lifespan then it was worth every dollar!
Some people can buy a product and have nothing but problems and it can turn out to be a very bad buy!
    Yours is not!…

    Enjoy it :)

    • +1

I guess your right, but it would have been nice to get a PS3 free.

    • -1

nice way of looking at it, I like your optimism, however do expect property to go down once the world economy goes down again (sometime in 2010 or early 2011 is my guess)

      • your guess based on what? (i didn't neg vote you btw, just enquiring)

Re: vid ghost, i agree with your pov, though bear in mind that even if we spent 500k on non-depreciating assets real estate rather than real sports car, some of us are still going to regret over "wish i hadn't bought it when the interest rate was so high" or "wish i had bought when promotion X was on"

There is no way to spend money, and then not "remorse" over some aspect of the spend once you have the help of hindsight. All we can do is Minimise the risk/loss from spends. no one could predict the absolute minimum so dont expect to.

        • Based on common sense eg USA's spiralling debt (the first big domino that collapses the rest), FHOG reduction, interest rate rises in the near future, salary to property price ratios and much more. I am confident that the current recovery is a fake one and it cannot be sustained for the longterm unfortunately.

  • huh…I thought the promo was scheduled to start on the 22nd Oct?

  • +3

Sweet deal..just have to wait to see what TVs qualify. Here's the link to the Flash advert for anyone not wanting to hunt it down:

    http://www.cnet.com.au/images/ads/sales/sony/bravia_xmas/BRA…

    Interesting to see the counter…

  • Pretty good deal.

However, In terms of the RRP value on the PS3 ($499), this Sony promotion might not be as good as the other manufacturers.

It will be interesting to see what the remaining manufacturers come up with.

    • -8

Poor form trying to discredit this bargain for YOUR Sharp with 360 Elite deal.

      • +1

How did I even discredit this deal?

I was just saying that the RRP of the PS3 ($499) is less than the RRP of other deals ($749 for Sharp, $699 for Samsung)

Wow some people are touchy lol.

        • +1

THIS deal may ACTUALLY be worth $450, as you can GET a PS3 + COD4 off EB for $496. :)

      • Crownie, I think that's drawing a pretty long bow dude! ;)

  • Would be good to have a site which compares how much TVs are selling for and how much people are bargaining them down for, that would be awesome for transparency…

  • +1

    James66

Have you considered taking to your retailer. Most large retailers have a change of mind returns policy which usually is 28 to 30 days.

You could say to them that you could cancel the purchase and buy it back again. That way the retailer does not loose their sale and you get to keep the PS3.

As you said it is only three week, probably it is worth a try. Best of luck.

    • I'll have to wait and see if my TV qualifies, if it does I will try that. Great Idea thanks

  • On what vid_ghost said,

Have you noticed, prices generally don't fall beyond certain level. Manufacturer just upgrade the features to maintain price.

Take computers, mobile phones, TVs. Probably DVDs are the only exception which comes to my mind.

I tend to wait and buy. What happens that I get a better features probably a tad below the last years prices. Of course which inflation and salaries increasing the $ has a lower value.

So as long as we are not interested in something which is just released, we should be able to get is at a fair price in few months times.

Sorry to take it away from the topic.

    Cheers.

    • +1

With that mentality it seems like you'll be waiting forever for the 'best' deal.

If you wait until next year, LED TVs will probably be affordable but OLED TVs will be in the horizon and the cycle continues…

  • looks interesting, can't wait for the list of qualifying TVs

  • What are the actual MODEL NUMBERS of the Sony TV's eligible for this offer?

And how do you Claim the FREE PS3?

  • Usually you'll have to fill out a redemption form for the PS3 and send it in to Sony and then wait a LONG time for it to arrive. I know someone who had to wait around 3 months for her PS3 because they ran out of stock and had to wait until the next shipment of PS3s…

  • is this for real? it looks like Sony is really desparate for sales.
first cheap EX1 (for $2300) then 3 year exteneded warranty for free and now free PS3.

    • What?? EX1 for $2,300? The video camera? Did I miss something? Cause that would be crazy!

      • Ahh.. I see there is an EX1 projector as well. Makes more sense now =)

  • deal starts no the 22nd guys.

  • I'm looking for a bravia TV right now:)

  • -3

can u buy a tv then use take advantage of the redemption without opening the tv. then return the tv? essentially getting u a free ps3

  • Nothing is stopping you, however retailer's have caught on to it already, some stores will actually call Sony and un-register the serial no. so that whoever buys the tv you returned wold be able to claim a ps3.

  • Nice find ariari124 … But the TV must be purchased on the 22 or after to qualify for a free PS3
Hope bing lee tells its customers this befor they buy it today without reading the fine print!

  • I just received a good guys catalogue with this offer. It appeared only on the 101cm sony tv (KDL40W550D), but not the 81cm one.

Guaranteed PS3 delivery by Christmas *
    *$25 (inc GST) P&H applies
    See www.sony.com.au/bonus for details

Looks like sony haven't updated their webpage yet.

  • Hey there - sorry to break the news but the 32" are illegible for the offer.
The 40” range and up are only available for this promotion….

  • So after 67 comments were posted, has anyone confirmed with Sony Australia about the existence of this free PS3 deal? I know Bing Lee have put that on their catalogue, but there's no mentioning from sony.com.au whatsoever …

    • +1

I think that's because the offer will only be starting tomorrow (although the OP said 16th at first, but has since updated it). So hopefully we'll see it on their website tomorrow!

      • sony have now updated their website www.sony.com.au/bonus
confirms it starts on the 12.01 am on the 22nd and that there are 25,000 consoles to go with select lcd tv's although it doesnt confirm which ones are eligible.

        • Someone posted on DTV that the ones eligible are these:

          KDL40W5500
          KDL46W5500
          KDL40WE5
          KDL46WE5
          KDL40Z5500
          KDL46Z5500
          KDL52Z5500
          KDL40EX1
          KDL52EX1
          KDL40ZX1
          KDL40XBR45
          KDL46XBR45
          KDL55XBR45

Edit: Oops, also posted below few seconds before me.

  • Saw a 40" Bravia FULL HD for $1798 at The Good Guys although strangely enough the website said $1599.

At $1798 you guys reckon its a good deal considering it includes PS3 slim and 3 year extended warranty?? I'm really tempted here..

    • You mean this Sony TV from The Good Guys:
      http://www.thegoodguys.com.au/portal/page/portal/tggwebporta…

      Looks good.

      • Yeah, reckon its a good deal?

The website says $1599, you reckon we can push them to get this price in store? Or print it out and try Harvey Norman to price match?

I might give it a shot tomorrow..

        • retail on this model is $1699.
          http://www.sony.com.au/product/kdl-40v5500

          • @Crownie: and u can find it @ JB for $1445: http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/plasma-lcd-tvs/lcd-tv/sony-kd… (sold out atm)

            • @dansor: wow lucky I asked this here. Seems like its a clearance LCD TV model.

But if I can get one at $1445 including all the bonuses that wouldn't seem too bad.

              • @John: that model doesn't seem to qualify for the bonuses. according to BingLee, the models that qualify are:
                KDL40W5500
                KDL46W5500
                KDL40WE5
                KDL46WE5
                KDL40Z5500
                KDL46Z5500
                KDL52Z5500
                KDL40EX1
                KDL52EX1
                KDL40ZX1
                KDL40XBR45
                KDL46XBR45
                KDL55XBR45

                • @dansor: But thegoodguys put this ad on their catalogue saying it qualifies. So it must qualified unless thegoodguys screwed up.

                  • @John: Well they obviously screwed up. The V series is old, I highly doubt Sony would give a free PS3 with them, particualrly considering their prices atm.

    • Hi John, i'm not completely uptodate on tvs atm, but i'm pretty confident you can get a better deal either by waiting for the first rush of buyers to finish, or by heavy bartering.

Its an ok price for a W series (100hz) but could be better given that big retailers have not caught up with the exchange rates yet.

      • That is a V series not a W. The V series is the older models with no 100Hz. Not too bad a price, although considering there is no PS3 you need to weigh up whether it is worth it or not.

        • Yeah.

          I just checked amazon for a 40inch W series… $950USD new =O

          http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KDL-40W5100-40-Inch-1080p/…

i'll gladly wait till the australian prices reach a more reasonable 1200 or so. Maybe closer to xmas?

          • @kimmik: The one we are chatting about is KDL40V5500. I suppose the price will surely drop over the xmas holiday as we can already see the trend going.

My hands are just itchy wanting to get a grip on an LCD TV hehe.. always wanted to get rid of my CRT

            • @John: Yeah but i figured you would be more interested in the W series as its the cheapest that qualifies for the free PS3

lol wow you've been pretty patient to still have a crt today. wont hurt to wait a bit longer? the real price drops are only just beginning.

          • @kimmik: Thats a W5100 not a W5500. Most likely to do with the 120Hz difference, but those obvioulsy aren't for our market.

Be interesting to see what happens with the prices post christmas, but that's always the problem, particularly with these promotions.

Spose it depends if you want to have a TV over the next few months with a free PS3, or wait a few months and see what prices do.

            • @TheWiz: I presume those are really the same TVs with tuners adapted for the NA and EU region respectively (and as you've mentioned, refresh rate)? Cost of manufacturing shouldn't be any different.

              NA - 950USD on amazon
AU - 1799AUD at good guys

              i eagerly await late november

  • SONY are being generous.
The deal is now for 25,000 PS3's :)

    • Clearing out stock of the 120GB's to make way for the 250GB to be the standard PS3 no doubt.

      • another way of looking at it may be that sony is helping whoever made those low capacity HDDs clear out old stock by buying it all cheaply. i mean, does Anyone even make 120gb 2.5inch anymore?

        • That's exactly what I have heard. 250GB will soon be the minimum 2.5" HDD size. Makes sense, plus it means we all get free PS3's!

  • official promo page: http://www.sony.com.au/article/353681/section/promotions

    25,000 units available.

  • Heading out to JB tonight to try get the KDL40W5500. Great TV and for $1750!!!!!

Being the fact that $1750 is the ticket price and both the extended warranty and PS3 are from sony, not the retailer im interested to see what else I can weasel out of them!

  • Anyone find a bargain on a KDL46W5500?

  • Picked up a KDL32W5500 for $1090 - not part of the PS3 promo but got the 3 year warranty!
For anyone interested in Melbourne Retravision Clifton Hill, hooked it up with HDMI on my PS3 and it's just stunning!
