5,000 Free KrisFlyer Miles for New Accounts (or 3,704 Velocity Frequent Flyer Points)

2650

UPDATE: Promotion is still running. From AusBT article:

There's now "an additional check for the promotion to verify enrolment in Australia, in line with the terms and conditions of the promotion."

"We decided to add the extra check after we had a number of applications since the promotion launched that did not meet the terms & conditions of the promotion" the spokesperson added.

"Customers seeking to benefit from the promotion will now need to email [email protected] after signing up for a new KrisFlyer account and provide a local contact number in Australia for verification."

Main link updated.

Just quoting verbatim from an e-mail I received from Singapore Airlines. Unsure when the 5,000 miles (or 10,000 miles, if you book a flight) are deposited into your account.

Sign up to KrisFlyer between 4 – 31 March 2015, insert the promotional code “KFACQPU” in the communication preferences area of the form, and you will earn 5,000 Bonus KrisFlyer miles to count towards your next trip.

Double your rewards and earn an additional 5,000 bonus miles when you book and complete your first return journey within six months of your enrolment date.

This promotion is valid for enrolments in Australia from 4 March 2015 to 31 March 2015 inclusive and for the first trip booked travel must commence from Australia between 4 March 2015 and 30 September 2015 inclusive and valid for return trips only. Eligible Cabin Classes: First /Suites Classes; R,F,A; Business Classes; Z,C,J,U,D; Premium Economy Classes; S,T,P and Economy Classes: Y,B,E,M,H,W,N,V. This promotion is only valid for enrolments and bookings made via singaporeair.com.

Now, why did I put Velocity in the title? If KrisFlyer is not your thing, bear in mind that as part of the alliance between Singapore Airlines and Virgin Australia, you can convert those KrisFlyer miles to Velocity Frequent Flyer points at a rate of 1.35 miles to 1 point. More details here.

Edit: I received my miles 4-5 hours after registering my account.

25 March - To Confirm:

This promotion code (KFACQPU) is no longer valid online. To take advantage of the promotion, remove the code you have entered and click "Continue" to submit your completed enrolment form. Please email [email protected] with your KrisFlyer account number and a local contact number in Australia for verification. Conditions apply.

Sweet deal - thanks for posting it - and a few steps closer to the velocity perks ;0)?

    Very easy sign up

I wonder how long it will take for the bonus miles to show in account

  • Do Kris Flyer points expire?

  • If a friend signs up can he send points to my Velocity account?

    • +1

Possibly. I've been through the process of linking my KrisFlyer and Velocity accounts and it's instant; all they ask for is your membership number. Hard to say if there's any name checking that happens behind the scenes.

  • +2

How long does it take to get the points?

    • Perhaps a week or two after your "first trip" :)

Edit: Looks like people are getting 5000 on sign-up itself! Another 5000 after first trip!

      • +1

YEh dude thats what it says..

  • +1

Not happy Jan! We only just signed up last month as we chose to book our flights with this airline. Flights are already booked and can't change Krisflyer details. Our trip is within the next 6 months :(( I wonder if this can be challenged by existing members….

    • +1

Just sign up again using this deal. At check in tell them your new card number.

  • Thanks OP

  • Cheers OP. just booked a trip on SQ, but need the Virgin status credits to re qualify gold, so will be happy with the free 3703 pts when they convert across. Can quote this on the silk air flights I am doing, as the status on these would be wasted on VA, so will possibly get more pts that way.

  • +3

be careful when u sign up if your a noob and make a mistake the u need to reinput the code

    • Now I'm wondering if I stuffed this up. If filled out correctly are the points visible in the account instantly?

      • I copied the code directly from the email, the points don't appear to be instant. I still haven't received them after an hour.

        • +1

I just received mine. I registered not long before my original post, so give it 4-5 hours? Or maybe it kicks in at midnight (Singapore time).

        • +1

I registered at midnight, and this morning the points were there. Just converted to 3704 Virgin points and they're now in my Virgin account.

          Thanks OP!

        • +1

          @madge:

Likewise. Can't believe it was an instant transfer too!

    • I forgot to put the promo code in :(

  • Great. Thanks OP.

Hopefully I can use this to get a very cheap flight to Singapore on Scoot.

KrisFlyer members will soon have even more options for redemption rewards with the inclusion of Scoot and Tigerair as programme partners.

The partnerships will enable KrisFlyer members to redeem their miles for vouchers for travel on Scoot and Tigerair flights, or to pay for selected products offered by the two low-cost carriers, in April 2015.

The carriers also plan to offer KrisFlyer members the option to earn KrisFlyer miles on Scoot and Tigerair by the end of this year.

    http://www.singaporeair.com/jsp/cms/en_UK/press_release_news…

So presumably I will get the bonus 5000 points if I book and complete a journey on Scoot within six months?

    • The terms and conditions of the offer state that the bonus miles are only awarded on eligible bookings made on the Singapore Airlines website, so I'd assume that Scoot bookings wouldn't qualify in this instance.

      • Wouldn't qualify for the bonus, maybe. But surely the original 5000 miles can be used in April.

        • Yep. You'll be able to redeem for a Scoot voucher.

        • @Thrymr:
As long as there are options for Scoot vouchers for 5000 miles or less…

  • Dang - I signed up on March 3 :(

    • +2

So did I. Just signed up again with another email.

  • I just signed up… do we get the points in months to come? Couldn't see that my points balance changed to 5k.

    • Wait a few hours. Your balance should eventually change.

      • Okay will do.. can you confirm yours did?

        • Yes, it took 4-5 hours.

        • Cool i'll check it later on today! thanks mate… just weird how everyone is saying they signed up but no one commented around actually receiving the points!

        • @ezza:

Okay worked it out, got the miles and transferred to Velocity!

          thanks!

  • Thanks OK, finally signed up for KF using the code. Nice birthday present :-)

  • Never mind, working now, thanks OP!

  • I have an existing Krisflyer membership with about 5200 points that will expire this June. I realise that creating a new account with the 5000 bonus points will be more practical because I am flying overseas soon (potential for another 5000). I'm just wondering if anyone has created two accounts and not had a problem with having two names on their database? Also is it possible to transfer my 5200 points from the old account to the new one? Thanks guys!!

    • E-mail address is the only unique identifier, so you should be fine with two accounts registered under the same name.

There's no way to transfer miles between two KrisFlyer accounts.

      • +1

If that's true, then what's stopping us from signing up multiple accounts, transferring multiple kris to the same velocity account later?

        • be careful but this could work in your favour

        • The fine print you agreed to?

        • +5

          You telling everyone?

        • +1

Won't work, you can only link 1 account at a time to 1 Velocity account. There are checks in both systems to ensure such fraud does not happen. you would be better off to just enjoy the free 5000 points than trying to accumulate more using multiple accounts and the system or someone from call centre cancelling the points

        • What I'm going to try is family pooling within Velocity. We'll sign up for Krisflyer, each get 5000, then transfer it internally via family pooling. See how it goes.

  • I like the fact that you can specify the name you want to appear on your card (not that I'm likely to ever use it). I wonder how creative people are getting :).

    • Problem is you will need to show other forms of ID when you check in as the name won't be the same as your ticket.

      • You will need some government issued ID when you check in anyway.

    • If you are just after the 5000 free points it won't matter. It will be a problem if you want to use it to earn points on flights though as Singapore Airlines system only allows a card to be attached to a booking with the same name.

  • I find that their points aren't that value for money any more. Before I could redeem and only pay about ~$600 in fuel surcharge and now it's ~$800 for a return ticket to TPE (could just buy CX for $730 return). What's more is that if I do the booking from TPE, the fuel surcharge is about 1/3 less :( Considering fuel prices are low at the moment I think they should really review how much they're asking for.

    • +2

yes but transfer to Velocity for better value.

SYD-LAX-SYD is only 96000 points and $150 in taxes.

    • +1

Economy class redemptions are rarely good value

      • sign up 25 people and you have a $150 flight to usa!

  • Thanks for this - have signed two up and will transfer over to Virgin when they come through

    • I'm wondering about this - whether you can transfer the points from two accounts to the same Velocity account. If it doesn't work, I'll just use the points from one of them with Scoot.

      • +3

If it doesn't work you could always create other velocity accounts and link them to your primary Velocity account and use family pooling to tally them together.

        • I'm pooling velocity points. Hoping to get 7,500 velocity out of this deal

      • -1

Hasn't anyone tried transferring from 2 kris flyers to one velocity account?

    • Better to use real name with different email to sign up again?

  • If you book a flight and don't travel will you still receive the bonus extra 5000 points?

    • +1

earn an additional 5,000 bonus miles when you book and complete your first return journey within six months of your enrolment date.

    • HUH Whats the point?

  • What if the trip is booked BEFORE March 4 but I will travel within the promo period? Will I still get the additional 5000 points?

    • Did you create your KrisFlyer account as part of this promotion?

    • earn an additional 5,000 bonus miles when you book and complete your first return journey within six months of your enrolment date.

      • Good catch.

  • Family signed up (4 members) - it didn't like my youngest being under 2 though but his birthday is 21st March so inside registration date period.

    • Update - Krisflyer points arrived, but linking kids Krisflyer and Velocity accounts wasn't straight forward as there is an error saying "guardian information missing" - I called Krisflyer, lovely lady answered and is helping me with my issue. It is the first time they have encountered this issue and hope to have a work-around by early next week.

  • am I correct to assume that once I create an account using the code provided by op I will recieve 5000 points and if I book a flight wiyh them I'll recive another 5000 points?

    • yes

      • I signed up last night but still no points.
        how long does it take.

  • I'm new to flyer points, what are people planning to do with theirs?

I joined the whole 4 member family in case we're allowed to pool them together.

    • +1

Family pooling is permitted with Virgin. The KrisFlyer scheme works differently in that there's no pooling or points transfers between KrisFlyer accounts, but you can add redemption nominees to your account, so someone other than yourself can redeem your miles.

For better or worse, I fly a lot with Qantas and Virgin, so will likely transfer my miles to Virgin and either redeem for a business fare or apply for a class upgrade. It's often better bang for buck than a standard economy redemption.

    • +1

4 family members will net you 20,000 KrisFlyer points (4 x 5,000). Before you convert these to Velocity points make sure you pool your family members in Velocity first because points pooling only happens on points after the pooling is activated. Then login to KrisFlyer and convert the KrisFlyer miles into 14,812 Velocity points and they will all pool into the family member head. If you don't plan on flying then those 14,812 points will can buy you $75 gift cards from the Velocity store.

      • +3

        Thanks Thrymr & PBG:

That explains everything I need to know. The $75 gift card sounds good considering its all out of thin air! :)

        • The $75 gift card sounds good considering its all out of thin air!

          Agreed!

      • Do u need to transfer to separate velocity accounts or can u transfer from multiple kris accounts to 1 velocity.

      • Exactly what I plan to do! :)

    • +9

And getting free miles that can be converted to Virgin is a not a deal because……

    • absolute rip off in what they charge for tax & fuel surcharges.
If you redeem with for example star alliance flights rather than Singapore air flights, you will find them cheaper in tax & surcharges but need to fork out more points.

I am surprised that you have only clocked up 80,000 points when you have been Elite Gold for 3 years. I thought the requirement for Elite Hold was 50k mileage per 12 months. And, even with PPS Club which is the highest one not Elite Gold, don't expect too much from Singapore air.

  • Still no points yet (been 6 hours)….Are there meant to shoe up in that dial thing on the left?

    • It should show up in the top-left under your name (e.g., "you currently have 5,000 miles").

  • More info than six hours and no miles ..I have checked twice …I think I have copy pasted the code and not typed in that's why I missed the free points..anybody got that…

    • +1

I think OP was right when he said that the points go through at midnight Singapore time, all new accounts that were activated after 3am AEST should receive their points at 3am tomorrow.

      • +2

Let's just hope it's not actually one unfortunate Singapore Airlines employee having to manually process 3,039 new registrations. Ah, the power of OzBargain!

  • I did copy and pasted but still no points. Its been 17hrs.
In that case time for a new account. I don't think it was a requirement to type the code in insead of copy and pastepaste.can someone confirm who has recieved their points already

    • I did copy and paste the code in - signed up last night, got points this morning - for all 4 accounts (wife and 2 kids). All points now transferred to Velocity account too!

      • Lucky you!!! Did you transfer them to a single account or to 4 different accounts?

        • +2

4 different Velocity accounts, but I have setup family pooling hence all points ended up in my account (as the main account). They actually check and verify the details, you will not be able to LINK a Velocity account to a KrisFlyer account if different details (name & DOB I think?)

        • @jlqc5899:

How long does it take to verify the Velocity account when added into the Krisflyer dashboard?

        • @drewh:

Immediately. I think the two systems are somehow linked.
