eBay Zero Insertion Fees for 99c Auctions 11 Nov-6 Dec
tim_geo on 10/11/2009 - 09:22 (pages2.ebay.com.au)

On eBay Australia for auctions starting at 99c or less.

Remember you still need to pay the final value fee if the item sells, and extra listing features such as a gallery picture still attracts fees.

Check the linked page for conditions. Basically your eBay Australia account needs to be active, you need to have received this offer in your account and Vehicle categories are excluded. When listing check if calculated fee is $0.00 rather than $0.30.

The idea is that you can list a lot of items at crazy prices and hope one of them sell, the crazy price is more than enough to cover the fee ;-)

I think some people have items that they want to sell anyway and they wait around until there is a discount on fees.

no guarantee of the crazy prices… it says u have to start the listing at 99c, so you could actually lose…

ebay is still a rip off

there are fees left right and centre… and they choose to cover the cheapest of them all

because of that, it’s a neutral from me

While I am not a huge fan of ebay’s fee, can you name one other site which has cheaper fee but also have similar amount of visitors?

I hate it when people introduce a touch of reality, and spoil otherwise great rants.

(I dont mind eBay as much as their imposition of the much-hated Paypal for sellers. Although I use it all the time as a buyer.)

applebyte on 10/11/2009 - 10:59 ¶

Yeah, what I don’t get is, is that why do seller’s have to pay fees for buyer’s protection? If buyer’s want the protection, shouldn’t they pay for it?

I always offer free express post to non paypal payments as an incentive for people to not use paypal

Yes, I agree fees are higher than I would prefer as a seller, but unfortunately there is no decent alternative. Also I guess buyer protection is an expensive business and we as sellers pick up the tab.

Oztion is becoming a decent alternative IMO. I wouldnt hedge all bets on it yet but if it gets more supporters, it will rival Ebay properly.

Yah…. ebay=Feebay
They seem almost snivelling the way they charge. Oh look it’s Tuesday afetr lunch, that will be another 55c and oh looky red t-shirt, that’s a premium color: another $2.20 etc Flock them.
I REALLY wish we could start an all-Aussie version that was fair-square in it’s fee structure and did not have the collusion of having Paypal as a requirement. The Kiwis do almost all of their online selling on their local version “Trade Me”. Works for them. “Fuffteen ship dups hardly used” etc…
Just a wish, I suppose. Ebay is too well established to be challenged now…

case closed? Lolz

It would take a humongous sustained advertising campaign but like I said, probably already too late to affect any change due to the momentum and deep brand recognition Ebay has established in Australia.
Still, like so many monopolies, they are eroding their value over time. The Paypal requirement (double dipping on fees) was the final straw for a lot of people but unfortunately, there is no viable alternative. I think given the choice on an even playing field I.E. similar exposure levels and sales opportunities, people would flood across.
Just dreaming out loud… I guess no one has the the kind of advertisng money required to dislodge them now.
Too big, too greedy.

I dont know how many people will be anle to use the offer

“Qualifying Sellers’ for the purpose of this Promotion are sellers who are validly registered members of any eBay site with an Australian registered address, and who have been invited to take part in the promotion by receiving an email invitation and/or My eBay messages invitation.”

Since this offer isn’t open to everyone, I dont think it should be on ozbargain. Those who are eligible would have received the email anyway.

I thought it would be available to anyone with an existing account - eBay runs free insertion promotions like this once in a while.

We’ll see tomorrow. If this is not open to most people, how do I remove the post?

Yeah I think we will have to wait and see.
I have three different accounts in my household and only one of them received the email. Funnily enough the one that received it has the least activity!

Who is eligible for this Promotion?

‘Persons who have not been invited to take part in the Promotion are not eligible for the promotion. The eBay account referenced in the email invitation and/or My eBay messages invitation must be used to list, in order to participate in this Promotion.

It is if you have lots of small things you want to list and dont mind starting them at $.99

I only list crappy things during these promos as if it doesnt sell it doesnt cost me anything.

Gravatar

rle02 on 10/11/2009 - 14:01 ¶

I find the best things to list at $0.99 are highly sought after items such as ipods and game consoles.
However it definately isnt recommended for the faint hearted…

It’s a bargain for me. even if there are other fees cough paypal cough. I use it to sell massively popular items in which I get an influx of people paying close to RRP!
+ve for those who use it. And hey, if you’re a buyer, there’s NO fees so this encourages more crap and stuff to be posted =]

people who hate accepting paypal should make the postage cost to use paypal more expensive than to use bank deposit, most of my buyers use bank deposit coz its cheaper to post coz it regular post (not registered).

anthony on 26/11/2009 - 22:29 ¶

One thing you have to be careful of is when paypal people pay the postage rate for bank deposit.
That annoys me as it is always clearly stated however they always receive feedback accordingly.

Kelly666 on 28/11/2009 - 00:29 ¶

yes, there is a trick to that though…
State in your listing that you will send them an ebay invoice after the listing.
And to block them from paying paypal and selecting the cheap rate, when listing your item, fill the PayPal email address as this email x@x.x
If they try to pay via paypal before you send the invoice, they will instantly get an error about ‘payment cannot be sent’.

You simply ask them how they would like to pay after the auction, and then you can adjust the postage prices accordingly yourself on the eBay invoice.
I have been doing this trick since mandatory paypal came in.
