mightyhawks23 on 10/11/2009 - 10:10 ¶me too… but my paypal and email just received confirmation so it should have gone through
i'm guessing they'll email/call you once you can pick up in store…. anyone ordered through clive peeters before?
mightyhawks23 on 10/11/2009 - 10:17 ¶just got confirmation email from clive peters but the order page is still churning away
"Your order will be processed and ready for pick up as soon as possible. You will receive an email notification when this happens."

life is a littl... on 10/11/2009 - 10:17 ¶I am still waiting for my payment to go thru must be in meltdown….lol

True, one per paypal account will limit scalpers.
as to not worth selling on ebay - you'd be surprised. there's plenty of completed sales at $179 a unit, and among current listings just at a glance there's a store that's sold 8 units at $194 + $15 postage. Even after selling fees you'd end up with $30-$40 profit per unit…
Oh well, I'm not complaining. Off to pick up my new ipod nano in a few hours. :) And definitely NOT going to ebay this one!

To make the $30-40 for minimal effort it is worth it however it the sale ends early, certain colours run out the sellers time will be tricky
Plus if the buyer claims they do not receive the item you wouldn't have any shipping documentation (unless clive peters provide you with it) so you could end up loosing the full amount.

richmond12 on 10/11/2009 - 10:30 ¶my bad. was about to edit my message, you're too quick.
wish it was for the 16gb tho!

WaywardOne on 10/11/2009 - 11:16 ¶This is hilarious! The website is sooooooooooooooo slooooooooow :P
richmond12 on 10/11/2009 - 11:18 ¶think of this now - $129 for 8gb model is good!
American prices are 149 and 179 (169 on amazon). With the exchange rate, it might be an option for 16gb for around the 180-190 mark.

richmond12 on 10/11/2009 - 11:28 ¶yes cant either… i would like to know the locations of stores in NSW… so i can find out if it is viable to pick…

Uhh.. No. Did you even read the T&C's a little bit? Let me paraphrase for you;
"PayPal is not responsible for the promotions offered by Clive Peeters, and this offer is covered by the Clive Peeters Terms and Conditions for this website."
The cashback may appear in your PayPal account, but it is offered by Clive Peeters.

Hi,
Assuming you met the terms specified on the page, specifically:
1. Purchased through the specified page
2. Paid with PayPal on checkout
3. Received a receipt from PayPal confirming the payment
4. Only ordered 1 iPod Nano 8GBThen you will receive the cashback in due course. As mentioned on the promotional page the cashback will be paid to your PayPal account 2 - 4 weeks after the promotion closes.
Thanks,
Spelter
life is a littl... on 10/11/2009 - 12:13 ¶I would say they will have a certain amount of stock. I would think the only reason they would withdraw the offer if they ran out of stock.
Gee already nearly 900 people clicked thru and if they all purchased one,and I am sure many other have just clicked directly to the site, that is alot of IPod sold… good on you Clive Peters and Paypal for offering such a great deal…

I had the same problem, but after a few retries, it went through.
The site gets reallyyy slow.. then all of a sudden it'll be quick (plus your cart will be emptied), as if they suddenly dropped everyone's connections. I got my order in during one of those quick times. It'll then eventually get really slow, presumably when everyone restarts their orders, and the cycle repeats.

My page kept staying at "please wait one minute for processing"…now just then, it's loaded with 'Website under maintenance', yet I've received a PayPal receipt. I still don't know whether my order has gone through yet - I'm worried they've just charged me without receiving an order due to this "upgrade".

Hi all,
As you are all no doubt aware due to unprecedented demand the website is having some issues. We are trying to resolve this and introduce extra capacity.
Once we have resolved the issues our customer service team will review all the transactions to ensure where payment has been made we have the order in our system.
Please bear with us.
Thanks,
Spelter
POWERevolution on 10/11/2009 - 12:49 ¶Arggggg….. Wasted so much time still not able to order 1.
Website being upgraded.
Due to high demand we are performing an emergency upgrade on our website. We hope to restore service shortly and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
mooreshady on 10/11/2009 - 12:50 ¶order confirmed, but no receipt or anything from Clive Peeters. only paypal receipt..i wonder how they will valid it………
funkymonkey on 10/11/2009 - 12:54 ¶w00t. Confirmation from Paypal, order confirmation from CP, "store has received your order" confirmation. Assuming that all I have to do now is wait for the store to contact me when they're ready for me to come pick it up.
-3 votesmooreshady on 10/11/2009 - 14:10 ¶Hi Spelter,
so if an error came out in receipt part, can customers still eligible to pick up? will it show up somehow that customers have made the purchase? only have the paypal receipt…

Just a FYI for those choosing the pickup option: you don't get to pick it up straight away. I chose pickup and got a call from the store representative saying they're waiting for the item to be delivered to their store. When it arrives they'll let me know and I can pick it up. ETA is around a week. So expect some wait either way.
proudwanderer on 10/11/2009 - 15:13 ¶Everyone who has been a seller on eBay probably knows about the pitfalls of accepting paypal as a payment method. Just wondering … are the rules different for off ebay and merchants like Clive Peeters. PayPal requires "proof of postage" in a dispute …. so what's stopping me picking up from Clive Peeters and then doing an "Item not received" dispute with paypal?

All items picked up from the stores require you to sign a copy of the invoice that is then kept as "proof of receipt of goods". I wouldn't suggest disputing it… Very similar to how I wouldn't dispute having taken some from any retail outlet then saying that you never received it. :P

Because the proof of postage is part of the ebay/paypal buyer protection.
If you are using paypal through any other merchant there is no buyer protection or reason to use paypal.
Using paypal is simply taking more money from the merchant and making money for paypal
It offers nothing extra compared to using your credit card directly with the merchant.
proudwanderer on 11/11/2009 - 19:27 ¶Really? …. Then why all these paypal promotions with various merchants - trying to encourage more people to use paypal.
Doesn't make much sense if it actually costs them more.

-1 votein the terms and conditions, it says the ipod "must be ordered through this page" to get the cashback, and sure enough, if you try ordering the ipod directly off the homepage, the speed of the connection is NORMAL.
So this is obviously their tactic of limiting the number of ipods sold at a loss.
i got to the payment confirm page after about 30min (no exaggeration here) of loading the 5 previous pages during checkout, and now it says "service unavailable"!!
richmond12 on 10/11/2009 - 16:40 ¶i doubt that. the sale goes for a week.
plus the server genuinely went cos it was fine at the start, places like ozbargain killed it.
richmond12 on 10/11/2009 - 16:42 ¶just checked now. server is fast again so i think they took time to upgrade it. its not like you got an hour to buy it like other sites, you got a whole week……

if the server genuinely went, why were the homepage items and shopping carts of other items loading so quickly… 2seconds vs 5min per page is a bit different.
what people need to do, is to take power away from those with power, by using cynicism, and to give power to those without power, by giving them trust. i.e. dont take what clive peeters tells you on face value, that they're having server "issues".
otherwise we'd get our asses smoldered by what the politicians feed down our oesophagii…

Actually, at one point i was trying to load the store locations page and it wasn't loading either. The offer just began a couple of hours. It's run by Clive Peeters and Paypal - not some small fly by night operation. Why be so cynical about it? Besides, it seems to be working completely normal now.
+3 votes"So this is obviously their tactic of limiting the number of ipods sold at a loss."
I seriously think there are WAY too many conspiracy theorist these days. Its 'obviously' a tactic? Highly unlikely considering they're trying to rectify the issues and have already said that orders will be fulfilled. I'm sorry, but your 'obvious' theory is just BS.
-2 votesand there are way too many gullible non-critical buyers out there too. so whats your point zhenjie? had a bad day and had to attack someone?
do you really think they had a separate server just to host a promotion page? - thus if their main clivepeeters.com.au site is working at full speed, why do you think the promotion page was slowed by a modest increase in buyers?
when they say they're "rectifying the issue" it's more like
guy increases the bandwidth cap of the promotion page from 10mbps to 30mbps
you've succeeded in insulting a fellow poster. great work.
"1. You must purchase online from this page between…."
http://www.clivepeeters.com.au/promotion/pp-ipodcashback.asp...
vs
http://www.clivepeeters.com.au/modules/ecommerce/products/co...
if you bought from the second page….. there is no guaranty you'll get the cashback.

sorry i replied to the wrong spot
but anyway, i agree its on the same server… but how then do you explain that i was able to load the ipod page in 2 seconds if i searched from home page, vs 5 min if i used the promotion page link?
of course the slow page problem is over now… but i'm not convinced that it was an "unprecedented difficulty"

kimmik certainly appears to have something against this promo…
Before you go flying off your handle defending the conspiracy idea, you might want to google what a caching server is and how it can affect page load times for different pages on the same server.
Just sayin'.
