        Speak english.

You understood what he meant, didn't you?
          Either way: "OzCryBabies" indeed.

I need some new furniture, so perfect timing!

          • -6

@TimeOrMoney: No I didn't. I speak and read english not baby gibberish.

  • +1

So does that mean if you eat $50 and then buy some furniture for $40 its basically free?

    • Yes.

    • $50 buys a lot of Ikea food!

    • $10 out of pocket… they'll only refund up to a max value of the item you purchase..

  • +1

So basically your purchase is still going to cost you the same in the end, but you can eat as much as you want.. So think about it like having free access to their restaurant.

    • A very good way to think of it. I had to get some baby stuff this week anyway.

only applies for food and drinks consumed immediately in the
    restaurant.

So will they check your plate?

    • Probably just that you took the food away from the counter on a plate and not in a doggy bag.

      • Still, I don't think they want people ordering hundreds of dollars of food only to bin it and get free furniture…

      • I was thinking more as in takeaway from their restaurant, so you must dine in (I've never been to an IKEA, so I have no clue)

    • No doggy bags

Come to think of it, good way to get drinks etc. to go.

Its an interesting promo but think about how many can their restaurant handle since you cant buy food and walk away. You will probably have to stand in line for hours if you manage to get a table.

    • have you ever been to ikea lol?

  • anything good at the restaurant?

    • there meatballs are popular.

  • damn it, I'm on diet. :(

  • Great bargain, but only if you live in the eastern states (VIC, QLD, NSW).

Ikea SA & WA are operated by a different mob to the eastern state stores, and have their own sub-site within ikea.com.au - and this deal doesn't appear on their site, so I wouldn't risk it at these stores (although their food is quite good).

    • So no SA?

    • Great deal.

Nowhere in the T&Cs does it say that it's not available, but probably best to check before going ahead with it.

  • Can somebody explain this condition please?:

    • The offer does not apply to purchases in the Bistro or Swedish Food Market.

Isn't the entire ikea restaurant just a bistro? Or do they have a separate bistro menu? can somebody post the items?

    • Not entirely sure but I think the Bistro is referring to the 'stall' which sells hotdogs, ice cream and drinks. Usually next to the Swedish Food Mkt where the biscuits, chocolates, etc are and separate from where the actual Ikea Cafe is.

      • +1

Yeah, obviously they are excluding those who like to stock up on the Swedish bikkies and choccies.

  • Damn it not for us WA'ians :(

  • -1

Good deal provided you are buying from Ikea anyway, and like hotdogs. :D

  • Damn it just bought 300+ the week before. Good deal

  • sometimes they have packs of meatballs or coffee for sale in the café, perhaps you could purchase it and have it included in the discount price…

in any case that's an excellent idea, just a shame it's only on weekdays, and not during the xmas/n.y. break — it clear why they have done it this way, as the café is packed almost every sat/sun through the year, from 12pm-closing — they don't need to work too hard to market it. the café is the only thing that makes the long trudge through ikea almost bearable. that said, it's pretty obvious Melbourne needs more than one ikea store — why did they ever close Moorabbin??

gets my vote! I wish other stores like Borders+GJ's / Dymocks / DavidJones / Village+PP / etc would use this idea — I'm sure it would help customers linger longer and buy more than they should :-)

So does that mean you could 1st buy a gift card:

    http://www.ikea.com/au/en/campaigns/campaign_gco1209.html

(Get the 10% bonus gift card) - then dine in the restaurant, then pay claiming the food "off" the total price and conclude the transaction using the giftcard bought earlier?

    What a deal !!!

  • Went today.
    Discount works well.
    No limit.
I got a few rolls and bottled drinks (orange juice and water) to go, and it was all fine.
It wasn't busier than normal either.

    • Can someone confirm this won't work for WA store?

  • +1

I also went today with my missus. Excellent deal if you are considering purchasing something from the store.

This means you get a free meal + whatever you were intending to purchase.

Combine this with the gift card 10% bonus and you got yourself basically free lunch and 10% off!

Make sure you purchase your gift card before going to the restaurant to eat as you can't buy the gift card and use it as well at the checkout!

    Example:

Buy $500 gift card and get bonus $50 gift card.

Buy $50 worth of food and drinks from the restaurant (recommend the meatballs, avoid the salmon!)

Browse and see what you were going to get. You now have $600 to spend for the day! (This is just an example)

  • +3

Be careful! I went today (to the Vic Richmond store) and the check out staff refused to credit the full amount, and only allowing the deduction of the GST-exclusive amount (ie about 10% less than the amount I paid). He obviously has no idea what he is doing, saying that the government has my GST so it won't be "refunded" (what rubbish), but it is hard to argue with and I didn't bring the full terms with me.

So just a warning, bring a copy of the full T&Cs (from the ikea.com.au website), and fight for your full amount. Don't be ripped off!

    • That's crap because Logan in Brisbane gave the full amount off.

  • please note: "The discount can not be used for the purchase of gift cards" <-last condition and which makes sense/common.
so please don't do what allan did, he just lucky got it through.

    • You buy your gift card beforehand and use it for your purchases at the end.

  • I went to the Homebush (NSW) Ikea with a house mate and worked 100%. Planned what to buy in-store before hand then ordered the food to cost same as what I wanted to buy in-store (http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/19863 bookcase :)
but on the way out, after eating, went past the bargain section (seconds/handyman section) and impulse brought a few things :P (and couldnt be bothered going back up to get more food) oh well still had a good meal :)

    thanks for posting

  • I need to furnish a new house…

How many meatballs does $5000 get me ???

    • 10 meatballs = $9.95, $5000 = ~5025

I was there last night and some lady in front of me had only 2 meals, but 8 bottles of drink! At $2 a bottle of water, your $5k can get you a years supply of water!
