If Budweiser is considered beer then Corona is definitely beer. No, I don't consider that Budweiser qualifies either… :-(

      • +2

your most welcome… :) at least your polite .. loll

      • +2

Only when you buy a dozen

      • +3

What do you expect when you make comments like that.

Everyone has their own preference and there is no need to say nasty things about beer that others enjoy.

If you dont want negs then dont make nasty comments. Simple.

Try it without a lemon or lime, tastes way better.

        • +4

Corona is one of my fav easy to drink beers - but only ever with lemon or lime - it tastes pretty tasteless to me without them.
But each to their own - there is no right or wrong answer.

        • -6

          @systmworks:

if you like the lime in the beer, you should try two birds taco, its infused with lime and coriander. one of my favourite beers

        • +7

@terminal2k: your favorites don't mean my favorite

        • +2

          @terminal2k:
          Ice is pretty moreish

      • Which beer do you consider "real" beer?

        • +4

beers that are brewed for flavour, not just to be drunk by people who are usually just drinking what their dads drank, or just drinking to get shitfaced. This knocks out most mainstream beers, so no tooheys new, vb, xxxx etc in oz and no corona, bud, miller etc from OS.

As for oz breweries, you start to get some flavour when you get to the level of coopers, james squires, matilda bay (fat yak, IGP, beez neez). ironically, if you look at the equivalent in the US, Sierra Nevada, they brew more beer than the entire country of australia (and do an awesome hefeweizen too)

I drink a lot of beer, its probably the second biggest cost for me after rent, and have drank around 1500 different beers in the last 3-4 years. Comparing corona to beer is like comparing craft singles to actual cheese

        • +3

@terminal2k: You haven't had beer until you've been here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weltenburg_Abbey They are still brewing the same recipes since 1050!! Anything else is just "fake" beer in my opinion. J/K. Beer is beer.

        • @Third_Gear:

oh if I had the time and money I'd do a european trip visiting all the monastery breweries. They do some amazing stuff and so much of it is very difficult to get over here if you can get it at all.

        • +5

@terminal2k: You'd have the money if you didn't drink so much beer here. Just saying… ;D

        • +2

          @terminal2k:

So you're openly admitting you're an alco if your biggest cost after rent is grog…
          ;)

        • @Maz78:

I prefer the term alcohol enthusiast :)

I do drink quite a bit, but I often drink rare and imported beers which aren't cheap. I couldn't tell you the last time I bought a case of beer, but could easily tell you the last time I spent more than $40 on a bottle of beer (it was last week and it was awesome)

    • +4

while I semi-agree, it has its place

A corona with lemon or lime on a hot day is an easy drinking drop with an easily session-able ABV and mild (very mild) flavour

Planing to take a case away for the Christmas at the in-laws, along with some of my own crafted brews, as I'm more than happy drinking a nice hoppy wheat beer on a hot summers day, but if I have to sit around all day and drink too many of my own brews I may become slightly too honest and tell the in-laws what I think of them ;)

    $42 in SA

      Those heartless bastards.

    • +9

@10 cents to recycle, that's essentially 2.40 cash back

  • -1

    This imported or locally brewed?

    • +3

Corona is always imported. Thats one the reasons i like them.

      • Brewed and imported from Mexico? Ie authentic?

        • +1

Yep… Its all Brewed in mexico

        • +1

          @carlJack: Yumm, local mexican water

      • -1

No it's not.. Often it's the locally brewed version made to the "Corona" recipe.

  • Thanks!

  • Save money and actually get an ok beer here

  • +6

Better off buying a similar product sold in the Woolworths deal. Frantelle Water bottles are only 4.80$ for 24! Way better value.

  • +1

    Look, more horse piss. :)

  • +1

I used to love Corona’s commercials. They were so peaceful and relaxing. That is until I found out that the beer contains GMO Corn Syrup and Propylene Glycol. Propylene Glycol is controversial, and is said to may be potentially harmful to your health.

    • +9

'is said to may be potentially'

Wow, nothing like cold hard scientific fact to make you think about your choices in life

    • +2

you shouldn't be so easily swayed by things you 'find out' unless you want to research them a bit more

      • +1

thanks for sharing hommie, time to crack open a Corona ;)

      • +2

Good article. Having said that I bet the people in Europe that were eating horse lasagna instead of beef were rather surprised. Giddy up!

    • +2

It's been used for more than a century, doesn't accumulate in the body, and doesn't seem to cause any short-term harm either:

"The study therefore indicates that the ingestion of propylene glycol alginate at a high level for 23 days caused no adverse dietary or physiological effects; in particular, the enzymatic and other sensitive indicators of adverse toxicological effects remained unchanged"
      Source: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1778262

Also found in yogurt, ice cream, salad dressing, cheese, fruit drinks, flour, noodles, tomato sauce, pasta sauce, soy sauce, icing, etc.

But it does have a suspiciously long name, so there's that.

      • Can't be worse than formaldehyde, which is said to be in some cambodian beer, to halt mould/bacteria growth. (Something like that).

  • +1

anyone know why or when it became acceptable to put a lime in your beer - or it is just good corona marketing/advertising.

Give me a white rabbit, hoegarden or little creatures any of the week over a corona. Actually i could list countless other beers before a corona would mentioned. Its in the pile next to VB and XXXX

    • +2

Probably to cover up the smell. Mexican beer always tastes 'chemical-y' to me. I had a Sol or 2 and then went to another beer and it was like day and night. Corona isn't much better. I really don't understand the premium price on this beer.

    • VB is light-years ahead of corona. At least it tastes of SOMETHING.

      • +1

'Terrible' is the word you're after :P
        Vagina Backwash.

    • One rumor is that you're meant to wipe the bottle lip with it (first) to kill germs/bacteria.

I got a different email this morning from Dans. Tooheys New $41 for 30 cans - https://www.danmurphys.com.au/product/DM_6225/tooheys-new-ca…
Ends Friday limit 6 per person

    Mexican dishwater

    • +2

That would have more flavour than corona, I might as well drink water

$42 a first choice in QLD with 5x Flybuys

  • +1

Good timing and price, not to mention getting a bit hot in QLD… geez, looks like suddenly everyone turned against Corona on OZB.

  • +2

Corona is if not the best, it still is the better one out there. Nothing against Corona its probably the local retailers who are cashing in on anything imported. I personally love Corona - a light and easy to drink beer anytime of the day;)

  • Most importantly: Dan Murphy's has a history of putting beers on sale when they are near there used by date.
    Please look closely before purchasing.
Most light ales have a best before of 12 months
However, they start to degrade very quickly and by the time they are nearly out of date they are awful.
Storage in a cool dark place is also essential. Not Dan Murphy's warehouse!

Save water and drink more beer!

  • Merged from Corona - Dan Murphy $38.95, $37.10 after Cash Back

    Hopefully this won't count as a duplicate….

The primary deal as listed is for Corona at $41/case - expires Friday.

Great deal. But to go one (or two) better:

    1. Buy your Woolworths e-gift card via the Cashrewards site:

    http://www.cashrewards.com.au/coupons/save-5-on-gift-cards-d…

Enter $41 as the amount of the e-card, it will cost your $38.95. Pay and you will generally get the card within a few hours. Can be used in store or….

    1. Buy via click-and-collect via the Cashrewards site for 4.5% cash reward:

    http://www.cashrewards.com.au/coupons/heres-proof-nobody-bea…

If you get an 4.5% reward for your $41 purchase you'll get $1.85 back making a net cost for the case of $37.10.

I'm a little new to the Cashrewards site so hopefully it works as they advertise. I've ordered 4 cases and I definitely got them at the $38.95 rate, hopefully I get the rebate from Cashrewards as well.

*** Edited to change the cashback rate to 4.5% as per other users advice ***

    • Nice plan…

    • Hopefully this won't count as a duplicate….

good way to get it even cheaper but sorry but it counts as a duplicate

      • That's hard. Just trying to help others. The original was for $41, my idea gets it down to under $36!

        • really? its not that hard.. i can see you have good intentions but you're pretty much copying the original post of $41, with the exact same link (that post already has the cashback listed on it under the cashback button). so all your adding is the fact that you can buy the gift card to save $2.05 but that also mean (which has pointed out below) that you probably won't receive the 4.5% back since your paying via gift card

looks like the mods agreed anyway

    • And here i am paying $41 yesterday. What a fool, when will i learn :(

    • +1

Cashback on beer is %4.5 not %8

      • I was trying to find that. Said 'up to 8%' but couldn't find the t&c. Will change the title to reflect 4.5%

    • I believe its 4.5% cash back on beer not 8% but nice work with the woollies card!

    • +1

You will have to wait 12 weeks at least to get the cash back

    • you can do this for all Dan M purchases, NOT a deal!

    • For the learner: read the T&C's carefully: Cashrewards: Rewards may not be payable if you pay by gift card or if you purchase a gift card

    • Good deal for anyone that doesn't know that you can apply cashrewards and egiftcards, it works for all dan murphys purchases

  • +2

Piss water. I'd pay someone 42 to not have to drink this. One of the only beers I will not drink, period.

      Yet here you are.
