3 Mobile - Half Price Mobile Internet - $4 - 500MB, $10 - 2GB, $20 - 6GB

587

3 Mobile - This is internet for your mobile phone (although it can be used as a modem). e.g. you need to have a mobile phone plan.
From tomorrow 03/03 and until the end of the month you will be able to get half price mobile internet for 12 months to new and existing customers.

Prices for membership packs:
$4 for 500mb (Used to be $8)
$10 for 2GB (Used to be $20)
$20 for 6GB (Used to be $40)
(not available for the $5 – 100mb plan)

Also as normal unlimited access to;
Skype, Facebook, MySpace, Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo Messenger, Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, Pop3 email (eg iinet).

These packs must be kept for 12 months or a $35 cancelation fee is applied.
You can take this offer if you are a new or existing customer. If you have an internet pack then you will need to cancel that and sign up for a new pack – I believe it can only be done by calling up or going in store (for the discount).

If you are currently on a membership pack then I think you will need to cancel and then reapply for the discount, which would mean a fee of $35. I am not sure of this so you may want to find out, the discount will out-weigh the fee.

The website also doesn't look to be updated for this offer as of yet, so I believe in store or over the phone is the only way to get it applied as of now.

I dont normally post on here as i put it on whirlpool, however it's a really good offer.

THIS OFFER IS AVAILABLE TO ANYONE - however it looks like the call centre staff dont know about it yet, if you want it go into the store like a few users have found and they have had it applied!

Try this number as a lot of people on whirlpool have had it applied through the brisbane call centre - 1300 551189 (during business hours)

In case anyone else is wondering this deal refers to Three

    • +1

thanks. just forgot to put that in. :P

  • good offer
    time to cancel and rejoin

    • -1

As stated above — keep in mind any cancellation fee which may apply.

      • I dont think i have a contract cause i paid full price for it when i joined up! i think the reason why its so cheap is the contract that comes with it
but thanks for the heads up anyways! :)

  • keandigity nice work!

  • Thanks! Just upgraded to the 10 dollars plan from the current 500mb (for 8 bucks).

    • How did you do that? Through the Planet 3 link on your mobile or did you talk to Customer care on the phone?

      • +1

I talked to customer care. I'm currently on the 29 dollar HTC Magic plan, and I already have the 8 dollar (500 mb) data plan. They have now upgraded it to 2GB data for only 2 dollars extra per month :D

I'm quite happy about this, the man on the phone was very pleasant to deal with. And 24 hour customer care certainly helps! (I called at around 11pm last night)

  • +1

wonder if you sign up over website you can use moneyback link?

Also what is charge for going over your download limit.

Currently I have the virgin BYO no contract internet only sim, cost $34 a month for 5gb, go over 5gb and they cut you off. But $20 for 6gb sounds a lot better!

    • You may be able to use moneyback link once the website is updated for the promo.

This is for internet on your mobile phone plan, so you need to have a plan first. Lowest contracted plan is $19 per month, and lowest non contract plan is $24 for a 29 cap.

      • oh prob misunderstood the deal then.

    • $34/month for 5GB no contract ? wow! How???

$20 for 6GB is no doubt an attractive offer, especially for 3 pre-paid users who pay $49/mth for only 4GB! I once was told, however, from a pretty reliable geek at 3 that the mobile broadband you get on a phone differs from that on an actual modem, particularly in terms of speed, given they'd never expect you to need as much on a relatively tiny cellphone screen. Anyone care to share their thoughts on this?

      • I have never heard that this is the case. Newer phones support the latest and greatest mobile broadband standards and can be tethered.

  • blank

  • I'd like to know the contract period is 24m or 12m. I mean this discount is the first 12m half price of a 24m contract, or just 12m contract.

    • it is a 12 months contract.

  • So tommorrow will they update the Planet 3 Value Packs section? Can you take up on this offer by simply upgrading or downgrading to a different membership pack?

  • Stupid questions:

    1. do you have to be with Three for this? I am with Optus (just normal $49 cap plan, not iphone plan)
    2. prices are per month?
    3. if i just use facebook and hotmail… then i just need the cheapest plan? (seeing as they are unlimited free)
    • You will have to be on 3 because you will be connecting thru the 3 network, don't think Optus SIM will work with that.

    • +2
      1. As stated in the deal description, this offer is for Three customers only. You need to own a phone on the Three network, on a cap plan (of any value) to be eligible. If you want in, you're going to have to join Three and get one of their mobiles on contract from here

      2. Per month, over a period of 12 months (1 year). If you decide to cancel the internet subscription before the 12 months is up, you will have to pay a $35 fee.

      3. Yep. They must be accessed through the Three portal. If your phone has built in email client, that uses up your internet download quota.

  • Don't sign up for this offer over your phone (meaning don't use Planet 3 to sign up). Call 3 directly to sign up for it. I signed up for it over my phone and they're still charging me $8 a month saying I'm not eligible for this offer. Been a 3 customer for almost 3 years, don't see why I'm not eligible and I'm on a contract as well. Plus I've been using their $8 dollar internet plan already. I really don't see any reason why Im not eligible for the offer.

    • +1

One of my friends is with 3. She reports similar problems with 3 broadband, that if she signs up over the web, they zero the account the next day. She also has to ring up to get things sorted. Strange …

      • Yeah I called them, and they said they'll call back in 48 hours. Let's see what they say.

        • +1

It's in India so I'm betting you won't get a call back.

          • @muzzamo: its in India but its still very good customer service. I was setting my dads iphone up over the phone the other day. Call cut out twice and they called back within a minute both times. This doesnt say much for three network coverage though…

            • @sweepy: I agree with anyone that says 3's customer service is useful since it's 24 hours service and the operators are generally very friendly. Trust me, of the 3 major networks, I've had the friendliest operators on 3. Telstra is the worst and they sound like they've had the worst day of their lives every time I call and Optus is normal. But that's just my experience with them.

But in terms of non-standard stuff, 3's operators are pretty clueless. 3 operators had no idea what Android is when I called for some support with X Series Packs.

This is my most recent experience before this deal. I have a non-3 phone, so obviously all the perks with XSeries packs like Unlimited Skype and Email on 3, doesn't apply to my phone. I accept that. I don't see why HTC Magic can enjoy these services but HTC Dream cannot (since they use the exact same OS). But I accept it. I wanted a mobile internet pack for my Google Maps and some other essential services that I need when on the move. So I figured 250mb is plenty.

The operator told me I cannot use any of the 3 services, and all Internet I use will be charged separately per megabyte instead of deducting from 250MB allowance.

I said, what the hell. So basically you're going to read me an agreement after telling me I cannot use ANY 3 services, plus the only 250MB I get I cannot use at all AND I have to pay 50 cents per megabyte? Then what I am paying you 8 bucks for? Are you seriously going to sign me up for this plan knowing all this?

He was silent for like 10 seconds. WTF right? He was completely clueless. I had to be put on hold for a solid 10 minutes before they confirmed that my internet usage will be deducting from 250MB. Man, the operators are friendly, no doubt but seriously clueless at times.

  • does this come with the skype minutes as well? like the x series packs?

    • +3

The X-series packs are no more. They have been replaced with internet Value Packs (available in $5, $8, $20 and $40 monthly subscriptions. Committing to a 12 month "contract" doubles the amount of data you are given each month. But if you break the contract by cancelling the subscription, you pay a $35 cancellation fee).

To sign up to a Value Pack or read it's details, just go to Planet 3 on your mobile, then go to "Mine" and at the bottom of the page click "Value Packs" => "Mobile Internet".

Any of these packs will grant you unlimited use of Skype — as long as you are in Three Broadband areas. Skype usage does not count towards your download quota.

If you want to take advantage of this offer, I suggest calling up Three Care and tell them to sign you up on this deal.

  • Wow. This is great, i still have the old $0 plan, i think its called "Hot 4 three". 500mb for my phone only @ 4 bucks, nice

    • just out of curiosity, what do you actually get on your $0 plan?

      • Maybe you pay for everything you use…

        • i wonder what the rates on that are like…

  • woah :)

I'm with Virgin post paid though :( $5 a month will get me 50 MB only … hope Virgin'll update their plans

  • I called 3 and they are unaware of this promotion.

  • I called 3 too, They were like WTF? i felt so stupid.

someone else call before me next time :D

    • As a its a new promotion i recommend going in store. however if you call up I always find that they dont check new updates, tell them to check new updates and to go awhead with the deal

  • In Planet 3 the Internet Packs that show up for me are :

    12 month Contract - $5 for 100MB, $8 for 500MB, $20 for 2GB, $40 for 6GB

I'm on an old plan (Hot for 3 $0 per month) and also has another option without contract which is half the allowances for the same price

  • -1

Meh I'm not about to cancel my free monthly 1Gb I got thanks to the iPhone loyality offer :P

    • what iphone loyalty offer ?

      • Was offered to customers nearing end of contract when Three first got the iPhone, it was $20 off bill EVERY month and free 1GB data every month for 24 months. Very good deal.

        • +3

still no reason to neg this, others do not get the iphone deal and this is very good for them.

  • None stated on website such discount is available and 3 Staff on the phone support know nothing about it. I have doubts

    • I'll say it again… go into a store and make sure the rep has checked the latest updates, or if you call up make sure they check new updates as it has literally just come out.

As you can see some people have been given this as an intro offer but now its here to stay for the month.

3 customer service do know about this but you will only get the 50% if you get a SMS! this sucks!!!

        • you mean this offer only available for those who received the text message?

          • @edw0000000: No, I received notification via e-mail. I just explained it and they seemed to know about it. He did say I was one of the 'lucky' ones to receive this offer, but I guess that's just a marketing ploy.

So just say you received an e-mail stating the facts and proceed.

      • keano, can you update the deal to indicate you can't get it unless you've received the SMS. As per the reply above this from phanki, and on whirlpool, customer service won't activate it unless you've received an SMS - and they check that the offer is attached to your account.

  • +1

Voting Negative - not because it's not a good offer - it is - but because you are NOT eligible if you have NOT received an SMS or e-mail.

I've just called 3, and they could not add an internet pack to my account because my account was not flagged as having received the offer.

  • Same here as above just finished talking with them they will not give me this offer without receiving the SMS

  • Voting Neg for selective deal.

    • +1

      • Try this number - 1300 551189
a lot of people on whirlpool have been getting it applied this way.

        • I called that number, they said they can sign me up for the $4 for 500mb, but two days later, I got an SMS to say that the plan I sign up for is $8 for 500mb. Called customer care, they said there is no such deal, nothing he can do, if i want to cancel then I have to pay $35.00 cancellation fee !!!! They know nothing about my previous conversation with the brisbane staff, all they see is that I have been signed up for $8 for 500mb. Furious!!!!!!

  • -1

So, as someone else has stated on Whirlpool, this offer appears to be limited to those who receive an invitation.

  • hum. who gets the invite ?

  • -1, just checked with 3 …

  • neg for 3.

you wouldnt know how bad they are till you have a problem with them!!

  • Odd, selective is it? For me, the consultant said 'anyone can upgrade as long as you're with 3'. I suspect that there will be complications with iPhone though since the iPhone already comes with data plan.

As for 3's custom care, I wouldn't be quick to criticize. Been with 3 for a long time now, and anytime there's a problem, they always do their best and offer credit for any misadventures.

    • +1

I've been Three for quite a few years and I cringe every time I need to call there "customer service" line.

On numerous occasions I've had the Three reps, tell me one thing and do absolutely nothing, over multiple billing periods on a number of different accounts. The result; I had to call the TIO to get accounts checked and billing problems fixed.

I've got nothing against Three they do offer some great deals, but to say there's no problem with outsourced help desk support in foreign countries is a bit rich.

      • -1

Yep, I have found them to be moronic.

      • Oh I see. I guess I've been lucky so far then :)

  • +2

    I've revoked my negative.

I walked into the 3 shop (Melbourne Central), and asked. Vanessa sorted me out. Saw the internal only T&Cs doc which states that they'll sign you up on the "standard" deal (e.g. I chose 500MB @ $8), and the discount will be processed as a post-process discount on the bill.

It's now showing up on my three.

So, anyone still reading - seems like at the moment you need to get down to the stores.

    • You can get it via the phone but it looks like the call centre havent been informed about the offer.
I'd suggest going into the store like BJReply did!

  • yeah just called up they said its selected customers only and thats after 3 transfers….fail

  • Not working for me.

  • Just an update.
This offer is AVAILABLE to anyone on 3 or joining 3.
It seems the normal call centre hasnt been updated with the offer but that doesnt mean the offer isnt there.

Go into the store like a few people have and get it applied.
Or contact the brisbane call centre during business hours and get it applied - 1300 551189 (like a few whirlpool people have)

    • If it was available as you said it would have been already on the site. I called that number and it is a definitive NO for me, after holding on the line for 5 minutes. How to change my vote to -ve?

      • I'd like to change my vote to NEGATIVE as well.

        • I'll see if I can find someone who can do that. I'll click on the report button under your comment and ask if anyone can do that for you.

Note, you can also do that for yourself, though you won't need to do it this time. :)

          • @SomeGuyOnOzB: imo just withdraw your vote, by clicking the "votes" tab up the top right

    • I called the brisbane number as stated above, they agreed to sign me up two days ago. But just received an sms today that i have been signed up for $8 for 500mb (not $4.00) as stated. I called customer care, they said there is no such deal and nothing can be done about it. NOT HAPPY!!!!!

      • -2

        So, you were lied to!

        • Yes. And the customer care staff i spoke to said there is no record of my conversation with the brisbane staff about the $4.00 deal. It is my word against his word……. so i give up, I don't want to increse my blood pressure and spoil my weekend over this …….

          • -2

@TheMatrix: There would be a record of your call to them on your bill :)

Don't let it spoil your weekend, on Monday phone the TIO!

  • +2

I went into a store and got it sorted!

  • 3/3/10: (SEE NOTE BELOW 5/3/10)This is a real deal. Need to ring the Brisbane no 1300 551189 during business hour. It also depend on who you speak to as well. I rang up and get it done straight away. My wife rang up, speak to someone else, and he said it can't be done unless she upgrade her phone or get a new phone plan. So I rang up for her, and get it done straight away. I guess some of their staff are aware of the promotion and some don't.

5/3/10: I called the brisbane number as stated above, they agreed to sign me up two days ago. But just received an sms today that i have been signed up for $8 for 500mb (not $4.00) as stated. I called customer care, they said there is no such deal and nothing can be done about it. NOT HAPPY!!!!!

  • Upgraded from $5 100MB to $4 500MB @ store. ;)

  • Signed up in store today… No issue in signing up

    • Has the plan shown up in your account at the promotional price?

  • oh god i would kill for this deal, just no 3G in the mines at the end of the year

  • Just went on to a three store and upgraded mine fro
$8 to the $10 with no fees etc
thank you very much. You're a legend!!!

  • +1

Ok I followed other ppls suggestion and went to store. Sales person did say he cancelled my $8 250MB plan and will be $4 for 500MB. He said I will get a SMS for the change over but i didn't. It hasn't shown up yet on My3 so I can't tell if the switch was done. Will wait and see tmr. I might revert my vote once I know the outcome.

3 never gets things right and even the retail shops are hopeless most of them have poor customer service and support.

They only know how to sign you up with a new mobile. Nothing else. Their poor training a;ways gives me this vagu feeling what they told me might not be true so I don't even know if they really changed mine.

But they are cheap, that's only good thing

    • It wont show up as $4 on planet 3, this is because its still an $8 pack, you will get a credit on your bill.
Also planet 3 doesn't show what you have until 24-48 hours, always has been like this.

      • I got charged 4 bucks even though I'm more than half-way through my monthly cycle. I got an sms saying it'll be pro-rated. I got pro-rated usage but I was still charged $4+. I hope you're right about them credit-ing the amount. Because when I called them to ask, they said I'm not eligible.

      • +1

I also hope that they will credit $4 back if that's the case charging $8. But if Planet 3 doesn't show the $4 then, how can I tell if I really got it switched (maybe when its shows 500MB with pro-rata)? I would need to wait until end of the month to see my bill to find out? that's Bizarre…

To OP, if you are an existing X-Series Customer and you did not have a 12 month committment before (as in casual plan), I don't think you need to pay the $35 cancellation fee (when cancel and sign up the new discounted one) as it wasn't mentioned to me when I was on $8 X-Series, requesting to switch to $4 500MB

        • Its frustrating. I called them on 27th Feb when I first got the sms. If I got the sms, I should be eligible. I was on an X Series 8 dollar plan with no contract involved. I thought, why not save 4 bucks and get double the credit. I signed up then called to confirm it, and they said not eligible and they'll call me in 48 hours to confirm what went wrong. That was 27th Feb.

I called on 2nd March and said, no one called. They apologised and said, I'm not eligible and that they'll call me again in 48 hours to see what went wrong.

Nothing again. So, I called today, and at first they said okay eligible then AGAIN they said, they'll confirm and get back to me in 48 hours. And the damn deal ends tomorrow. I received the sms, why would I not be eligible?

First off, they shouldn't let me sign up if I'm not eligible. Second off, if you let me sign up under the pretense that i'll be paying only $4, you shouldn't charge $8. And if I'm not eligible then just cancel me from the 12 month contract without charging me $35.

If they call me 48 hours later and tell me deal ended and I cannot cancel unless I pay 35 bucks, I'm gonna Green Bruce Banner on 3's customer service.

          • @ragflan: keano1989, just so you know, you did an awesome job getting the news out to Ozbargainers about the deal. We're upset with 3 and not with your post. All the negative votes are aimed at 3… Their support is ridiculous.

          • @ragflan: the deal ends tmrw?! isn't it on for the whole month?

            • @themonty: The SMS i received says it ends on 05.03.2010.

              • @ragflan: I'm voting a positive now since I called 3 and they said they'll credit me 4 dollars in my next bill. They verified my account and verified that I got the sms, so they said I'm eligible now.

But I advise everyone to call 3 before signing up and save yourself some time and worries.

  • can anyone confirm if this deal is really on until the end of the month? cheers

  • Anyone else seen on My3 that is comes up as the old amount, not half price? I was told is should appear on my next statement as half price and too ignore that, at a 3 shop.

Hopefully is deducted by invoice time, or I'll be on the phone to the TIO again for another shifty Three Mobile deal.

  • just wanted to update. got this one the weekend. still valid till june 30.
