Asus Eee PC 4G $488 from OfficeWorks

110

It is in their latest "Get set for back to school" catalogue, which can be found by click on "View Catalogue" at the bottom of the page, which brings you to Catalogue Central. Asus Eee PC (Wikipedia entry here) started on sale in Australia last month through Myer for $499. I think Myer is no longer the exclusive channel so other retailers can start selling them at lower price now.

For $488 you get

  • Asus Eee PC
  • 512MB DDR2 RAM
  • 4GB SSD
  • 7" LCD 800x480
  • Fast Ethernet + Wifi
  • 0.92kg

Definitely one of the hottest toy released last year.

  • is this better than the one laptop per child laptop?

    • Can you buy OLPC in Australia? Spec-wise I think Eee is better than OLPC (except for the LCD, which I am hoping Asus will release a higher resolution LCD sometime this year). You can check the spec on Wikipedia:

  • JB hifi will be stocking the eee soon,

Also there is a 8.9" LCD version coming

  • Toy!? Maybe I'm just a big kid, but I really want one of these myself! Be nice with a larger screen, bigger SSD and XP lite (or whatever its called). Although I'm guessing the price would increase significantly?

    • I think they do have a built in SD card slot which can take SDHC. A 8GB SDHC can be had for less than $70 on eBay which will hopefully increase the useful storage.

I think I will think twice if it is more than $500 (if the newer model is bigger, faster and more expensive), which might end up not buying it. The beauty of Eee is really its cheap price.
