wow Xiaomi is making everything now… A consumer electronics company as Sony was in the 80s and 90s

        • -4

Well, they have certainly harnessed the power of sheep marketing…does that count? ;)

I also don't really rate their stuff, mediocre at best IMHO, but they've got a hell of a following, and their prices seem to be creeping up inordinately for the quality…smart business.

Ironically, every person I know that's bought a Xiaomi phone has told me how awesome it is when they get it; but then I notice that it's quietly replaced by another brand very shortly thereafter…

        • @StewBalls:
I've had a Xiaomi phone for around a year now (Redmi Note 2, I think). It's still going strong and I have no desire to replace or upgrade it yet. Their newer version of my phone still seems like excellent value.

I wouldn't have recommended mine to, let's say, less technically inclined people though as there was some fiddling about required to get the phone running well in English with the Google store installed.

        • @StewBalls:

I've had a note 3 and had nothing but problems, there's been a few people how have experienced this also.

I did purchase a band and was very surprised at the quality for price, but due to my bad experience with their phone, I will never try another Xiaomi phone again

        • Well played

Sony didn't invest the portable cassette player, Andreas Pavel did but Sony was the first to mass market it after Pavel failed to make it sell. Sony didn't invent the CD, James T. Russell did and Sony came up with the standard that would be used in collaboration with Philips after licensing the patents from Russell. Sony didn't invent the new laser diodes that made bluray possible, but they got together with Philips and Pioneer to again standardise and market it.

Sony was very good at marketing and deal brokering, that's all. Thus why we don't use Laserdisc and HD DVD.

          Interesting facts

          Most companies aren't inventors

They are just good at marketing or making it better (think Apple)

        • -1

@freefall101 A strawman argument - where did I say that Sony invented the CD? But since you've touched on that, did Google invent a search engine? Did Apple invent a mouse or a touch screen phone? Did MicroSoft invent DOS? No they didn't but that doesn't mean that they weren't not hugely innovative, doing in the information age what Sony did in the golden age of consumer electronics.

By the way, Sony continue to innovate - for example, last year they released a codec that allowed wireless headphones to support higher than CD-quality (aka hi-res) audio for the first time.

The high number of anonymous negs, without a single one being able to point out a flaw in what I'd said, is further proof of the sheep mentality of the Xiaomi army. I don't have anything against this company and own some of their powerbanks - just thought comparing it to Sony in it's heyday (and even today) was a bit rich.

      • No, I don't think uneek was kidding.

      • Man those betamax tapes really took off!

        • Yes, innovation is risky and you're more likely to fail in doing so, but if everyone adopted the business model of copying others' and designs and producing them at a lower cost, there would be no more ideas to copy.

    no bluetooth?

    with build in WiFi only….sorry😓

    • How about NFC ?

      • +6

No Band 28, I'm not buying.

  • Yap, they make rice cooker and electric bicycle as well.

  • They make wallets, t-shirts as well.

Those straps look like dental floss

    • Looks good to me for $15.

    • +9

You must have some set of teeth on you if that's what your dental floss looks like.

  • Thanks Monty, the reviews for this bag look good :) will be good to stuff into my luggage for my next trip (supposedly 215g).

  • Can it support two laptops? 13" and 14"?

    • Specs say it can hold 10kg but I doubt it would provide much protection for the laptops.

    • +2

I've got one and the straps feel pretty thin so not sure if it'll handle that much weight. I've been storing my 12" laptop, 10" tablet and a bit more so probably about 3-4kg all up and that has been fine for now.

  • Ah cool, needed a new bag. This seems better and cheaper than most of the junk I've looked at.

  • +10

the next thing they making is xcondom by xiaomi…lol

    • +5

They kinda do. A former Xiaomi employee started DaXiang ;)

      • +10

Founded by former Xiaomi employee Liu Kenan, Daxiang (which translates to “big elephant”) sells 0.002mm-thick condoms in packs of seven for RMB59 (about US$8) a box. That’s slightly more than what you’ll pay for if you get your condoms at a local corner store in China, but the company hopes it can distinguish itself by zero-ing in on giving customers what they want, when they want it – that’s where the Xiaomi legacy starts to show.

    • With NFC

  • +4

    Does it support band 28???

    • +4

      Only strap 27 I'm afraid.

  • When's the power bank model released?

  • +1

Code Only works for the black one

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I don't need this, but I have a nasty Xiaomi addiction which thus far proving untreatable.

What is the bladder made of and are there any issues if I fill this with goon?

  • Thanks for sharing. With this price tag, you can't ask for more. I know Xiaomi making lots of premium products(expensive but still affordable) which are not available in oversea markets yet.

  • +2

Would be great if we could get the price of the Xiaomi Kettle down to something reasonable actually ;) hint hint

    • Saw the smart Xiaomi Kettle, they are amazing product, not available in OZ, Sad….

  • Signed up for a new account, how do I apply the discount Monty?

    • You should be able to add the coupon in the cart.
The new account bonus will apply at checkout.

      • I just went through the checkout process with a new account and it did not apply the discount.

      • I would think you get the rest of the discount from applying the EB points you get for signing up as a new customer (100 EB points) and verifying your email address (10 EB points). 50 EB points can be applied to an order for 1USD so 110 gets you 2.20USD.

Xiaomi products are great, but my experiences with Everbuying was very bad. Google reviews for Everbuying, you will see what I mean. You are looking for bargains not for trouble. Do no buy from this company.

FREE SHIPPING ** AT YOUR OWN RISK **

Bought a $120 Android Tablet from EverBuying. 3 weeks later. Tracking shows "delivered". Well I didn't sign for one and certainly have not got it. We were home all day during the day they reckon it was delivered.

Raised dispute with EverBuying, they offered to refund half $60.

Raised dispute with PayPal - record shows "delivered"- you loose. Not covered. No prove of delivery - too bad - you loose, goodbye.

Contacted EverBuying again, to their credit, they refunded $60. I lost $60.

It seems to me this Shipping Agent used by EverBuying is gaming the system and you loose every time. Tell me you can't just make the record to show delivered instead of paying out a claim.

Fellow OzBargainers BE WARNED. And if you think PayPal will look after you'll be wrong too.

  • Has anyone received this yet?

  • Still waiting for my bag………………………
