      Survivors?

      • Risk your life for $50..lol

    • +1

And for customers who were thinking to buy it, but didn't due to issue?

      • +10

You can't serioulsy want compensation for not buying a product?

        • -1

          That was a joke ;)

        • @Gaggy:

Well.. We were affected too. It is not a joking matter.

I wanted to buy it the day of the recall and had to wait on the phone for 10 whole minutes while wanting to find out what was happening.

Someone should start a gofundme for us…

I had to settle for an S7 Edge. I am very worried with what will happen to me if I need to take some notes and need a pen and paper but only have my phone with no spen.

        • -1

@0burntrice0: lol! Your #FirstWorldProblem made my day! cheers! =)

  • +1

Just a clarification… this only applies to those that did exchanges / loaner phones… those of us that were forced to do a refund in the early days through retailers like JBHifi (as was instructed by Samsung) lose out. This appears to only apply to those that didn't refund, and good for them for having the option to wait and be rewarded.

    Happy to be proven wrong.

Bring on the next sale. :)

refunded…so you can buy it for cheaper later

      • After several phone calls to try and get my replacement phone I am going to get a refund too. Not worth it considering the early adaptor tax.

    • +3

For those who got a refund, they probably saved more than $50 by buying it later at a lower price

      • The only company selling them outright so far is Harvey Norman at the same price. Other retailers are expected to begin marketing the product next month.

        • +1

He probably means they saved more by buying it later and avoiding a potential fire?

Its unfortunate that the first batch of Note 7s were faulty. However, the way Samsung has handled the situation and continues to put its customers first is second to none. They make great products and their customer service proves to be no fuss (as with a recent warranty claim I made just outside of the warranty period). You've won my brand loyalty!

    • +8

you mean you werent just using it wrong?

To be honest, a giant (like really gigantic) company like Samsung should do better quality control, especially when it comes to safety. The affected batteries were also made by Samsung, there's really no excuse that they made such a big mistake. At least they're doing their best to make it right…

      • a giant (like really gigantic) company liked any government on earth screw up all the time anyway…..

      • You obviously haven't been talking to their customer support team. Good intentions but very bad internal communications. I got 3 pieces of direct conflicting advice from the Samsung customer service (phone), Samsung live chat (online) and Samsung store (Melbourne Central). Then they claimed they have no records of me ever making contact. Luckily I made screenshots of the online chat and sent it back to them… I also tried requesting a copy of my transcript via Samsung, they referred me to their legals department. I was being sent around in circles!

The nightmare my friend had dealing with them regarding the washing machine fiasco they have lost a few customers.

Summarising: washing machine caught fire, samsung said too bad we fixed it, 15-16months later phoned to say the problem wasn't fixed. Burnt out washing machine is already at the tip now a case of too bad, contacted and wanted proof said washing machine went tip. Then agreed to refund after facebook post call out. Multiple follow-ups and eventually got the washing machine delivered to be refused delivery as no machine to collect. Eventually got the new machine but never again.

    • +3

They handled it in the way that could mitigate their potential liability and risk if someone had been hurt or killed as a consequence of the battery issue.
There would definitely have been an internal cost analysis between taking no action, and a recall. I guess the recall was cheaper.

      • -2

You have no idea if that happened.

        • You think they would take an estimated $US 1 billion hit for replacing the units without modelling their costs for alternate strategies? Sure.

        • @Fybre: And if they planned for this to happen in advance and just swung into action? Sure.

        • @Diji1: I'm sorry, are you suggesting that the whole thing was premeditated by Samsung?

    • true I had similar experience with my Fridge & TV…both well outside their warranty periods & Samsung fixed them both for free!

      • It's amazing what you can do with a plastic shopping bag these days…

      • I have to admit that I am die hard Apple fan and not likely to buy any Samsung phone in the foreseen future.

Having said that, I have to admire them for fixing my out of warranty (OOW) fridge. After having trouble with my 4 year old fridge I was considering buying a non-Samsung fridge but I decided to give them a call re the noise my old fridge was making. To my surprise within 15 minutes on call, they decided to repair it free of cost even though it was almost 2 years OOW.

So thank you Samsung, you have won my loyalty for consumer electronics :D

      • Refused to fix my plasma.

    • LG could learn from Samsung…..once bitten, twice shy

I'd say it is a compensation rather than a deal/bargain

    • +1

Considering we get to keep the original accessories such as the S-Pen worth $48.99, the fast charger ($50) and headphones ($45) in addition to the $50 voucher I believe we've been more than looked after and would consider this a bonus as it wasn't expected.

      • +4

They also let you keep the loan phone, cheapie but makes a great spare.

        • Out of curiosity, what loan phone did you get?

        • @MissP: Galaxy J1 - Ended up flogging it on eBay for $100.

      • So are you telling big corporates that it is OK to make and sell unsafe product as long as compensation is more than $50+$45+$50+$48.99=$183.99?

I never thought human life is this cheap.

If this logic applies I would say keeping myself alive is also a Bargain

        • +4

          It's not ok.

In this instance it cannot be undone as much as Samsung would wish they could turn back the clock.

However what can be controlled, is how they handle the situation afterwards both in customer service and their quality control processes.

Samsung implemented a voluntary recall globally after just a minimal amount of cases had occurred.

These things happen. Heck look at the number of recalls occurring from large car manufacturers. Cars where the breaks don't work etc.

We don't live in a perfect world.

        • Two words

          S**t happens.

        • @shamona1: >Samsung implemented a voluntary recall globally after just a minimal amount of cases had occurred the news showed a burnt Samsung Galaxy Note with claims that it exploded.

        • the 256gb SD card worth $250 was also allowed to be kept. Even those who chose a refund still were able to keep the SD card.
        • he 256gb SD card worth $250

You mean the card I just found in the first place I looked for $150 delivered?

    for Samsung Note 7 Customers

    Anyone still alive?

      • +1

FYI - Samsung Electronics Australia can verify a small number of Galaxy Note7 smartphones in Australia have suffered from the reported battery cell issue

        Source

        • Thus far.

        • Pfft What's a few measly lives compared to a huge Korean conglomerate?

    • Imagine being the guy that had his car burn to the ground and receiving a ahem note from Samsung saying, "We're sorry. Here's a voucher…"

      • So what about the person who house was burnt down by the faulty Samsung washing machine, any reimbursements?

  • +1

A big thumbs up for Samsung on how they dealt with the situation.

OT: Thanks, OP. I should be expecting my replacement this week!

  • It explodes……

  • +1

Still waiting on how I should go about getting my replacement. Contact Mobileciti and they don't have any replacement stock and get forwarded to Samsung. Talk to Samsung live chat they take my details and nothing comes of it. Tried a few more times over the coming weeks and still nothing from Mobileciti and Samsung. To make matters worse I'm going overseas soon and will be stuck with a phone that's limited to 60% battery. Not good enough.

    • Worse, they may not let your phone on the plane. Qantas won't let you turn it on.

      • Just went on the live chat again and it turns out the replacement request was approved and I should be getting my new phone in 3-5 business days. Fingers crossed.

Do you know how planes are treating the new note 7s without the battery issue?

        • It's been a week since I was told my phone will arrive in 3-5 business days and now the live chat rep is giving me 7-14 business days. This shit is a joke.

        • No tracking number and I'm expected to hand over my phone to the courier whenever he does come. So I guess I have to backup my phone every night and wait at home for 7-14 business days. Good shit

      • How do they know its a note 7? Lol their design hasnt changed much from their note 5.
If ya got a bumper or case on your note 7 nobody will realise it.

        • My brother travelled from Gold Coast to Sydney on Jetstar last week and he was using his Galaxy S6 in airplane mode, they told him to switch it off then said Samsung phones are banned from use on there planes.

        • Hmmmm. Interesting, been travelling on Qantas quite a lot and haven't had that. I think that was just a ignorant steward/stewardess who didn't read the memo. Maybe complain to Jetstar and they will give your brother a $ coupon for his next trip!

        • @senz:

Then that person is ignorant. Only Note 7 is affected. I flew Qantas and they specifically said Note 7.

        • @burningrage:
nah i had the galaxy s6 and they made me turn it off.

  • +3

Not a deal. Should be in forum.

  • No thanks!
I have heard the new version still has the battery and overheat issue.
Pass to the next one, I will never risk my hand/face/ear to a mobile phone.

    • +1

You already do, any Lithium battery could go at any time.

  • Seriously Samsung if you want to compensate the affected customer, they should send them a gift( like VR / Fitness 2 ), do the same to attract new customer.

  • +5

Bugger didnt think to take out the S pen before returning my old phone…..

    • Same here

    • +1

Optus took the phone and asked me to return the whole box with charger and everything (said i would but never did)

  • +2

i downloaded the PDF but then my computer exploded. Damn you Samsung!!

  • Not a bargain guys come on.

  • +1

Exploding phones jeopardising your life is not worth $50. Sorry Samsung, you still have not fixed the problem.

  • lol this isnt a bargain, its compensation.

  • -7

I still don't like what these Koreans doing. Let's go ,iPhone 7 PLUS Jet Black 128GB

    • +2

Lol better than when apple iphones had the antennagate issue and steve jobs decided to blame the customers then just gave them a shitty bumper.

Just make sure that your backup phone isn't a iphone4 cuz if the samsung note 7 blows up or sets ya house on fire… you won't be able to contact emergency services lol.

    • What's with the racism?

  • Targeted deal??

  • -6

I bought a new sealed note 7 on gumtree for $600 and sold it 2 hours later on eBay for $1200, 3 days before the recall, beautiful, Samsung and customer service is crap wouldn't trust them with anything, reason I won't use their phones, good for a quick buck though did the same with a 7 edge, paid $400 sold for $850 😛

    • can not believe you get it for $600, i tried for weeks and got it for $900 brand new with proof of purchase

      • Yep was a guy off gumtree who got it from Optus on a new contract but wanted quick cash.

    • +3

      You're making a deal about it…

    • +4

There is a "report" button there for a reason, if the mods find it necessary they will take the right steps.

  • -1

I'd buy a box of cigars with the money. Seems only fitting.

  • $50 enough to buy a fire extinguisher ? Maybe a cheap one from Ali ?

  • +1

I can agree with some people here its not a deal, its compensation for a valid issue.

  • $50 to compensate for a house fire

    What a great deal

  • For all those users that got the Samsung galaxy edge as standby phones till the new note 7 have come, are they being returned back complete with all the accessories or like the original phone only the phone is being returned back. can they keep the accessories of the standby phone as well?

    • You need to return everything that came with the loan phone - as it is simply on loan to you. You will be liable for any damage or losses in relation to the loan phone.

  • +1

I bought a new note 7 from jb, outright, over the weekend and supposed to be the new version. Really happy with it and coming from the note 4 (note 5 didn't have microSD - idiots) it's a worthy upgrade. Bloody expensive and I needed a stylus, but no regrets whatsoever. Worth every cent.

To make things even better, I got a pop up notification today saying I got a $50 gift card! Very happy. :)

    • +1

Looks like the new version explodes too… and you'll have to return that soon, are you still happy?

  • Just got a call from Samsung for Note 7 replacement. Given 2 choices

    1. Take your money back (Purchased from JB)
      or
Take Samsung S7 with $450 prepaid visa card
or take Samsung S7 Edge with $350 prepaid visa card.

At JB/HV, they all have listed price for S7Edge as $1250

Asking my fellow OZBargainers and seeking your opinion on this. Considering Note7 is 64GB compared to Edge 32GB only.

Should I ask for compensation on Flip cover and Glass screen protector that I bought for Note7, which is now useless ?? I dont have receipts for these anymore :(

    Thank you for your time.

    • +1

Unfortunately without receipts they will not and nor would I expect them too.

Throw them in the bin like I did.

I'm happy with my free accessories, $50 myer gift voucher and $350 gift card for switching to the S7 Edge.

I didn't want to part with my Note 7, but after a few days of using the S7 Edge I can't even remember the difference!
